If I wanted a purse to look like the first crappy drawing (the seam being the dotted line) would I just need two peices shaped like the second drawing? I mean, I know how to make it lined and all that, but I just wanted to know if that's the correct shape to cut out, or if parts shold be longer, higher, slope less, slope more...

Help? )

I love Ikea fabric and I was planning to buy some and make one of those purse things with it, but I'm just not too great at sewing without a pattern.

I was just at wal-mart (shopping for crafty stuff at 12am as usual ;)) and I couldn't help but notice the various hand bag handles they have!! has anyone seen these? there are a few styles, about 8 that I saw. I like the wooden ones, I was thinking you could sand them lightly and paint them :)

Just an inspiring, random thought.

I need to post pictures. I think I did once. But my room is going through major changes, so that will come in time. :)

I'm sure it's been done, but I made mini muffin tin crayons for my kids lat night and still making the rest this morning.

We actually bought 3 new boxes to go with all the crayon bits we had, so I somewhat of a colour match. We bought cheap (59cent) boxes of 39 or so.

1 - take the paper off

2 - break into ~1/2 inch pieces

3 - match up shades (anything red, pink, yellow, etc..) into bags

4 - turn the oven onto 200

5 - spray the tin with mold release spray (I used candle mold release since it's made to work w/ wax)

fill the tin up with your shades about 3/4 of the way - we got more crayons this way so both boys had one of each shade to use so there was no fighting. you can fill it up to the top as well

6 - put them in a somewhat preheated oven (step 4) and leave them for about 1/2 hour, maybe more, maybe less, I wasn't timing it. I put it right onto the rack.

7 - use an oven mitt to take the tray out. Use something (I used a plastic knife) to give it a little stir. They separate, and kind of look like there’s water on top. Stir gently, so you don’t splash. Let them cool, about an hour or so, maybe more, maybe less. I wasn't timing it. The first batch set overnight, the second was ~ an hour.

8 - gently press on the top of the new crayon to see if its solid. If it is, turn the pan over and press on the center of the muffin mold of each one to get it out. If this doesn't work, raise it up a few inches and either let it drop or bang it gently, and they should come out. Lovely stuff that release spray. If they still don't come out, place them in the freezer for a few minutes, then try again.

And there you have it! I did this instead of buying more square crayons, since I bought beeswax ones last time and they were about a dollar a crayon (great colour, all natural, but too expensive for me right now).

I just moved into an old one-bedroom apartment, and one of the many problems with it is that the coat closet just inside the front door has no doors. That will never do, so I'm thinking of making a bead curtain so I can easily get to jackets and the vacuum cleaner, but the clutter is covered. It's going to take a lot of beads, though, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good website that sells cheap beads in bulk. And if anyone has made a bead curtain and has any pointers, I'd love to hear from you too!

I NEED TO GET THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE!

if you want them.... let's figure something out for the postage.

PLEASE HELP! i don't want to waste this stuff but i just don't have the room.

i'm in allston MA and i'm moving to somerville... if you live close-ish, we can figure something else out.

Soo... I looked in the clay section, but didn't really find a "make this!" list, so I thought I'd ask for ideas.

Yesterday my girlfriend and I bought our first two things of Sculpey, purple and blue, and we made tons of stuff in just the first night (things for magnets and jewelry and hair needles and little clay doodods), and today we made a bunch of other little clay peopleish things (from the Tombats fonts, if any of you know what those are). But we're running out of ideas!

Does anyone have anything they'd like to see made out of Sculpey? Like little clay toys or beads or, I dunno, anything? If you'll impart the ideas, we'd love to send stuff out - it's super cheap to make and I love the idea of just sending out little clay doodads. So, anyone have any ideas?

thanks to the lovely "of course it will mildew" advice of the wonderful craftgrrls, i've decided to paint my monster bathroom....and here's what i've gotten done thus far..

monsters! rar! )

i still need to work on a shower curtain, and possibly some wall-hangings, and, of course, the potty monster itself. that's probably going to be a blue toilet rug with felt teeth stuck to it.

My mom lives in Tampa, but she'll be in New Orleans for her birthday, so I decided to throw her a surprise party.

The invitations were done in shades of green, orange, yellow, and pink, accented with coordinating fibers. The graphic is an embossed flip-flop stamp. It's not a Luau, just a fun summery party.

The words were printed on vellum and embossed with a clear glitter embossing powder and mounted on contrasting cardstock with vellum tape. I'm printing up maps to include since some of her friends haven't been to my new house since I moved.

The picture only have five of the cards I made, I still have a few more to do (thankfully most of them are going to couples)

I wanted to keep the party small since my house had some trouble holding 50+ people for my own birthday party.

For decorating I'm potting a bunch of orchids to decorate the buffet table (done family style) and some other tropical decorations to adorn the margarita station.

The entire ceiling of my living room and dining room is going to be covered in pink, orange, yellow and lime green balloons. Then every other surface is going to be filled with frosted glass vases filled with fresh tropical flowers accented with ferns.

I'm having a roasted ham (as opposed to the traditional whole pig served at a luau) some sort of tropical punch, a fruit and cheese tray, sandwiches, and assorted chips and dips as well as several appetizers I haven't yet decided on.

Her cake is a seven layer square almond cake filled with pineapple preserves and frosted with buttercream and topped off with more orchids.

I think that's it. I'll be sure to post pictures when it's done.

Thank you :)

I'm watching the recap of the home and garden show on HGTV and now I have another million things I want to buy for the house - but these really struck me as something all you girls who are interested in lighting up your newly decorated rooms could use.

I just saw the most awesome lighting system ever! I just went to the website, and immediately thought of all your crafty girls.

I have about 12 shirts just dying to get to get made into a quilt. I sew on occasion, and I haven't done anything this large in a while. Any suggestions for beginning quilters or little tips I should know about ? All the things in the memories seem to say is stuff I don't understand because I'm not real into sewing. Can someone give it to me in really stupid people's terms ?

Here are some of the shirts I'm using. Most are from bluecollardistro.com. The owner of that company's mom made him a quilt with a bunch of shirts they made, and it's hanging on a wall at their press. It's kinda the inspiration for this one.
