Next time I think, "oh, I used to hand sew things all the time when I was a kid. A little bag won't be hard, it will go quick," someone please remind me that no, it won't go fast. At all. And my hands will hurt.

Here it is though, and I'm actually quite proud. #&$*!@% five hours later... )

ive never posted here before, but i made a couple of purses the other day! im sort of a giant nerd when it comes to sewing machines [i'm much more adept with beads and things]...but its still fun!

the first is reversible[YAY], and the other i made from fabric from le thrift store; its a fine day for sailing!

also, if you know thisisblythe.com, then you know about the quilt project. im not a fantastic embroiderer, but i am beginning a patchy attempt!

sorry there are so many photos! :0 )

hey crafty dudes -

weird question:

does anyone know where I can find hot dog patterned material?

long story, but I would need enough for two sets of pjs for two fully-grown adults.

hmm

Does anybody have any ideas on how to make a bag like this ? I looked through the faq but I didn't see anything. Maybe I just missed it. Well, any tutorials or instructions would be great! Ones w/ pictures are the best because I'm more of a visual person.
[identity profile] dallasgal.livejournal.com
hey everyone, this is sorta kinda but not completely crafty.. anywho .. i figured that you would all have some awesome creative ideas for me. my boyfriend (who has to go to school in the summer) is heading back to university from this long weekend. he has to go on the bus and he hates it. is there any way that i could make a little snack or package for him to make his 6 hour trip a little less drab? ?? so far i'm going to the corner store to pick up some treats and put it in a paper lunch bag for him (decorated a little of course .. hee hee). i only have a couple of hours till he leaves so if someone could get back to me asap that would be great! ;) thanks so much ♥

I'm going to stay with friends in NYC for the summer and I don't want to take my sewing machine and serger with me.
Does anyone know of any companies that rent machines?
Thanks!

I have searched the stores and the web and am not enthrawled with anything i've found so i am taking it into my own hands to make myself a new bag/purse thingy. I say "thingy" because i need it to carry my wallet, keys, cell phone, makeup bag, all the regular purse stuff like that PLUS a few diapers, wipes, maybe a compartment for a bottle to fit snuggly (everytime i just throw one in my purse it leaks and that sucks. Idealy, i would also like room for my digital camera as well. On top of all of this, i'd like it not only to be in a funky and playful fabric (which i have enough of in my own stash) but i'd like it to be messenger style as well....but not too big.
*sigh* maybe i'm being to picky.
I've searched pattern company web sites, purse retailers and all kinds of places and havn't found anything "cute" that will work.
So now i come to you skilled individuals. Have any of you got a pattern, seen a pattern or able to make a pattern for something like i have described?
Any help/direction/guidence would be SUPER appreciated! Thank you for your time :)

You may have all already heard of this site, but I just found it... and in case you *haven't* seen it, I had to share yet another budget suck!!

Hey guys.. i'm in the process of Starting a business.. and i'm trying to come up with a Name for our shop!

to best explain the shop.. it's basically going to be a smaller version of the Buffalo Exchange. Some new stuff, some used stuff. a mix between Vintage,Couture,DIY, Punk,Hippie and just regular used stuff, but for cheaper.

I plan on hopefully buying stuff from some of you that do DIY stuff on ebay... and have it displayed in the store! :D (mind you this is going to be a year or two in the future.. but i'm keeping my eyes open)

so ANYWAYS.. the point of this post is to ask for help with a Shop name! we're kind of going for a retro/pinup girl feel in the stores decor.. but not "kitschy" retro... more classy with a rock edge.

Here's a few names i have in my head...

anyways hopefully i'll get a few suggestions :D thanks ladies.. and guys!

This is my first post in this community. I need some help. I bought a wooden storage box to use as storage for my knitting supplies. I have applied a warm paprika-ish color to the entire box. Now I am stumped. I don't know what else to do with it. I would love to hear some ideas on where to go from here. I don't know if I should stencil, paint images, or decoupage (and with what). I am really lost.
[identity profile] glasstears1020.livejournal.com
Wee! I tried my first decoupaging project today, and I'm sort of happy with it. I got the template from http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel187644

I saw that post by [livejournal.com profile] buytradesell in [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl where she made a tube top from a mens button-down shirt, and I made my very own (yes, it's much worse because I only made it in 5 minutes). so here: )

Finished!

EDIT: thanks for all the positive reinforcement :) our school does "prom in the park" before the prom where everyone gets together and parades around in their outfits, which is where that last picture was taken. we're planning on entering the duck brand duct tape scholarship contest so as soon as we get our stuff in and get details i'll post again with where to vote. you guys are super!

One weekend + a bunch of pairs of old jeans + two old sheets and some batting = the latest project! And yes, I am an idiot for making a blanket when it's 90 degrees out...

It measures about 73" square, and it should be fairly warm. Sadly, the cats didn't butt in on the pics this time.
If you want instructions or commentary on how I did it, leave me a comment and I'll answer you.

look again... )

I graduated college a little over a week ago and I wanted to make some thank you cards for a few of my favorite teachers. (Especially now that I can't be accused of brown-nosing!)

I used acrylic paint and a sharpie marker on a sheet of cardstock folded in half and cut into a square. I looked at the words "Thank You!" for so long this afternoon while I was playing with fonts to see what might look good on these that the words didn't seem to make sense anymore.

The one in hiragana is for my Japanese professor - it spells "arigatou." :D

I need to buy/make envelopes for them that are not square, because for whatever reason the (American) post office charges more to send square envelopes. Does anyone know if *size* makes postage cost more at all? (Like, if I send them in one of those 5"x7" sized yellow envelopes meant for documents?)

new murse!

[identity profile] bahootz.livejournal.com
Well I joined this community a couple of minutes ago because this summer I vow to put my craftiness to use, and I already started by making my first murse (man purse) the other day.

I used an old coat and t-shirts that I never wore anymore. Most of them are skate brands because I used to be into that, haha, but not so much anymore. Anyhow, they all had cute logos and things so I thought they would make a cute bag.

The coat is basically just the lining and it gives the bag it's structure. It's like this polyester quilted type of thing and looks really cute on the inside.

For the strap I tied two belts together and wrapped them with hemp, and for detail I did some stitching around all the t-shirt patches with brown yarn. My fingers hurt so bad from it all because I did not have a thimble. I am certainly buying one for next time.

Anyhow, I have an obsession with murses and I was happy to finally make one to go with the other jillion store-bought ones I have. :)

yay made a hat! I lovvvve it! My lovely sister, Maddy, is modeling.

Plus, i'm trying to find some good hat and flower patterns, so if anyone has some of their favorite patterns, i would love if you posted them. When it comes to hats, i'm looking for a few different things, not just a basic beanie. Thanks!
