Hello,

I looked through the memories but I couldn't find what I was looking for (maybe looking for the wrong words?). I hope this post is appropriate.

Anyway, I'm going to screenprint t-shirts for the kids at my work (summer activities program), but first I have to find the t-shirts. We're a non-profit with limited funds and I don't want to spend more than 3 dollars a shirt, as we're going to need 20 or more shirts (although for the right price we might buy up to 40 shirts, I'm guessing). We're looking for youth- and preschooler-sized BRIGHT orange or yellow or maybe lime-colored shirts, so we can recognize the kids instantly when we go on field trips to museums and places like that. I've seen a few sites with shirts in our price range, but I havent seen any inexpensive shirts that were made in the **USA**.

So,
Can anyone tell me of any online stores that sell cheap USA-MADE blank, brightly-colored t-shirts? Or list the brand names of shirtmakers that don't use sweatshops?

What about Hanes? Their site says the youth shirts are "imported" but that means nothing to me. Jerzees? Champion? Are there any famous-name makers who don't use sweatshops?

I guess if it comes down to it, we'll buy questionable t-shirts made in unknown conditions, but I'd really like to use our money for something that won't support mistreating people, so I'd appreciate any help!

THANK YOU!!

Yay!!! I finally finished a bag I've been working on since Monday! I got an idea for the "pattern" and wasn't quite sure if I'd be able to turn it into a reality, but I am pretty happy with my lilypad bag. )

I just got some sculpey the other day. When i used it on the first day, i had no problem... but now it seems "sticky" (it sticks to my work surface and my fingers) and is hard to work with. what am i doing wrong? what is the best type of surface to work on?

thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what kind of adhesive I'd use for bookplates?

My state fair doily's looking pretty decent.

The one on the right is a close-up of the finishing row, or what's done of it. I've decided that if, by some miracle, I get a ribbon at the fair, I'm going to have the doily framed along with the ribbon.

Does anyone have any tips on fabric paint? I'm thinking about painting a pillowcase for a Father's Day thing, but I'm worried that the paint will be really stiff. Is there any way of putting an image on fabric without having it be crispy? And I don't have a printer, grrrr... we need to find that ever elusive adapter cable. :)

This week I decoupaged an eyeglass case with pictures of the transit of Venus (article) and people watching it around the world. Thanks to those of you with tips on dealing with the difficult edges! :) I learned that watering down the glue too much is baaaaad news for color copies, so I had to use at least 2 layers of most of the photos. I also finished with 2 layers of polyurathane, especially on those edges.

Last night I also made a pop-up (kinda) comic-themed birthday card for my fiance to go with the new McSweeney's (info) I was giving him. I used cardstock, color copies of vintage comics, and foam squares.

Does anybody here have any inspiring ideas to make a towel rack? I hate to think that I'd have to buy one, but I don't have spare metal or wood hanging around and I've racked my brain (no pun intended), but I can't come up with anything durable/aesthetically pleasing. Any ideas?

Hello! First post in this group! I made a bag for a friend's birthday. I was inspired by the stenciling posts so here's how it turned out...

My mom bought this tin full of old fabric paints at a garage sale years ago. She just sent them to me. The writing tips on these tubes of paint are pretty gunked up, but i can just rip the top off and still use the paint inside. I'm also pretty excited about the patterns that came with it! Some of those Aunt Martha brand repeat transfer things, and a whole lot of 1776/bicenntenial themed stuff (which gives me an idea as to how old these paints actually are!)
I will have to post more when I get around to using the paint or patterns, I just wanted to share these vintage crafty things with you guys!

(and if you have any ideas of other things I could do with this stuff, or if you want me to maybe post some of the patterns, let me know)

Hi everyone!

I've had the urge to make a new handbag lately, but today when I was out running some errands, I saw this bag for a really good price, fell in love, and brought it home. The only problem is that the strap is a little short for my tastes (I like bags that can be worn over the shoulder and across the chest for hands-free goodness), and it's not adjustable.

Anyone have any crafty ideas about how I could modify this more to suit my tastes, without deconstructing the whole thing and installing a new strap? I was thinking maybe splicing in a new section or an adjustable portion, but I can't think of a really good way to do it. Yes, I do have a pretty decent sewing machine.

Thanks for your help!

It's summer and that means I have free time. (Yes,I'm a loser without a job. Sad, but true.) ;) Anyways, I'm redoing my room is a gypsy like theme/ traveling since gypsies travel a lot (ok, I think you all can make the connection. You're all very bright people lol) I already have some old pieces from my grandmother's house from Spain, Japan, I have come to own tons of Indian stuff and such so it all fits my eclectic taste. Plus, bold and bright patterns are a passion of mine. Anyone have any ideas, examples or even just a picture of what they've done and I could try to strip it down and morph it into something I could make to fit my room's new theme? Thank you my freaky darlings =)

ok i know someone posted just recently about how to make cigar box purses but i know some people had questions about customization with how to cover them with fabrics and such...so here goes

first I'd reccomend going to your local cigar store and just telling them what you plan to use them for...usually if they see you're not trying to charge a ridiculous amount for them they'll even give them to you for free.

I now have the ultimate summer top!
Shit. I should've taken pics of the back... Well I bet you can guess what it looks like... bare!

This picture proves my dog really really loves me. Look at that loving stare. I ADORE my baby!

I also threw the skirt together to have something comfy to wear with the top.
WHEW! I'm tiiiired. g'nite!

This is my new messenger bag. I made it out of a gift box from a clothing store and clear tape.
The box was a solid red colour on the outside, but I turned it inside out(the inside was striped as this is now) and glued it like that. The strap is a shiny red and the bag is red and white striped.
For the strap, I took an old strap from a duffle bag that I had and sewed on two pieces of ribbon(one on each side) to make it a red strap.

sorry for the crappy pics.

I've been very uninspired lately. Meh, I blame college. But, here's a long lost glass etch I never posted from last year. I think I copied the dancing man off of a button I had.

This isn't the final product, but I'm so proud of myself for how it turned out... my very first tshirt alteration. So far I have all the cutting done, and the way it looks now (shorter and tighter) will be done later this weekend when I get some more time to work on it.

I plan on taking either some red or black ribbon to the sides to make the sides scrunch up and tie at the bottom... I'll post the image as soon as I get it done.

Oh, and the "Dutch Rub" text on it is the name of a friend's band - I've had this tshirt for 2 years now since I first went and watched them play... The shirt didn't look right on me, but I still wanted to wear it, so I figured this would be the best way to do it :-)

I made my friend a gift basket of homemade body care products. I need to get some real basket fill for it (it's just paper until tomorrow, and I'll pick up some fill before I give it to her), but I'm pleased with the offerings.

Pictures of my labels/ingredient lists, links to some recipes )

She's used many of these products before, and is virtually twisting my arm to sell the body butter to all the female members of her family (I'd rather gift it), but there are many of them she hasn't tried. We've not been able to hang out lately, so this way, she can spend some time "with me" by pampering herself. :)

Here is the finished product. The record purse. The one that "Miss Sixty" makes is $200. Its completely hand sewn and a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into it.

Yes I'll be making more if I can but with different material. If you're curious the record is "Wham". Better use for a wham record eh?
