Clockness...
Jun. 16th, 2004 02:51 amSo, what do we do when we have an old motherboard from an old computer, a clock mechanism, and keyboard F1-F12 keys?
( answer )
And a little practise/time-spending way while playing adventure games... weird and ugly little cell-phone bag thing. :D Crochetet out of left-over pieces of paper yarn. It was fun, and I'm doing another one too, a real bag this time. :)

Charging for costuming...
Jun. 16th, 2004 09:17 amPlease pardon the imageless post, but I need your advice!
I'd like to work as a Halloween costumer this year, and I would like to start advertising now. My question is - what should I charge beyond the cost of materials? I figure folks who want a costume made are willing to pay well for it, but how well? Should I charge an hourly rate? Also, can anybody provide an example of a basic contract for this kind of work, so that I (and, admittedly, the customer) am less likely to get screwed?
One more note: I'm planning on keeping the advertising in my workplace, in the hope that my coworkers will be a bit more reliable than random strangers on Craigslist.

Jun. 16th, 2004 12:03 pmDoes anyone know (or know where I can find) rules on reselling altered items?
What I mean is.... um... well here's an example. I bought a plain fat little journal from Barnes and Noble a 2 years ago. I then altered it myself wrapping it in handmade paper and thick ribbon. Since then EVERYONE and their mother has asked me where I bought my cute little journal. Would it be illegal for me to sell such an item seeing as how it was orignally purchased at Barnes and Noble?
I use magazine images on lightswitch plates and things like that. Enough people have shown interest in my stuff to make me want to sell it at a street fair. However I don't know if that's legal to resell an image I took out of a magazine, or a journal that was altered from it's original design when I first bought it.
Whats the deal?

Cheap white sheets
Jun. 16th, 2004 12:20 pmI seem to remember someone posting a while back, trying to find a way to get a large quantity of fabric for really cheap. They mentioned that you could get old hotel sheets. Now I need to get white sheets (for a backdrop) really cheap. And I was wondering, how do you go about getting old hotel sheets? Does every hotel sell them? Or was that just a specific hotel in a specific town that sold them?
mod podge question
Jun. 16th, 2004 01:14 pmHi-
I'm new to the list and I admit I have not posted pics of anything I have done. Yet.
I promise to post something up as soon as possible if someone can answer my question though :) Tricky hey?
I am doing fabric collage. Fabric onto paper and plaster casts etc. I have been using Mod Podge which has been faboulous. Recently though I was asked "Why not just plain white Elmer's glue?" To which I had no answer.
Does anyone know if there is a difference? And if so is it huge difference, or does it kinda do the same thing in the end?
Thanks in advance for any/all information you can share with me !

jones soda table
Jun. 16th, 2004 01:37 pmI found this little table for $1 (!!!) at a garage sale last summer. I used Mod Podge to cover the top of it with labels from Jones Soda bottles. Then I put about 8 million coats of Mod Podge on top. (ok, realistically I think it was about 10.)
The plan after that was to sand the top of the table and then put some kind of clear lacquer or sealant on the top.
The thing ended up sitting in my garage all winter. When I decided to start sanding it yesterday, I saw that the edges of the table had indentations in it from whatever it was leaning against (think about what your nails look like if you paint them and then go to sleep when they aren't quite dry, and you wake up with marks from the sheets.) The top had little bits of leaves and such stuck on it. It looks like the Mod Podge melted when it got hot outside, and whatever was near/on the tabletop got stuck.
I tried to sand the indentations on the side, but the heat from sanding caused the Mod Podge to get all dirty and gummy instead of smooth. The top of it is not too bad, it's just not smooth and you can see the brush marks from the Mod Podge. It's sort of usable, but I'm afraid that if I ever put a cup of coffee on it, the Mod Podge will melt. Is there anything I can coat it with that won't ruin it? Any other advice to help me salvage this thing? Do you know how many bottles of Jones Soda I had to drink to make this table?!?

color changing? (KNIT)
Jun. 16th, 2004 01:39 pmi am attempting to do a color pattern and i'm having issues with the strands in the back. i read somewhere that said you only need to carry over the other colors every third stitch, that seems really messy to me, as i kept going i changed to carrying over every stitch. what is that called? does anyone know any good sites on the techinique?

Jun. 16th, 2004 06:29 pmI would like to start dyeing yarn and have seen some fabulous results by others, nicer than I could ever come up with myself! However, I was curious as to what color combinations people like and came up with some samples. Also I would like to get some ideas for color combinations that are your favorites. Could you please take the time for this short, fun "quiz" and also share any color-related opinions you may have: PLEASE GO HERE to see colors and comment. Thank you!

Jun. 16th, 2004 07:22 pmDoes anyone know of someplace online that sells circle shaped sea glass, or just plain circle glass tiles? In large to small sizes? I've searched, but am totally empty handed.
felt banners
Jun. 16th, 2004 07:38 pmmy mom is in charge of planning a vacation bible school program for young kids next week and she needed some banners for the different groups, so guess what i got to do...

i traced the animals from images i was given, drew the letters, cut it all out and glued it on another sheet of felt. each one will go onto a bigger piece of fabric to be hung up in each groups area.

A semi-done craft
Jun. 16th, 2004 08:01 pmToday I went to Michaels...spent like a half hour walking around and looking at things. Got many good ideas (by taking like all of the project idea sheets to look through later, he he) and came home and decided to try the trusted ol' mod podge. The thing is I dont feel like this is done. So, gals, this is where you come in handy!

( What is it? and how can I finish it! )
comments appreciated and ideas VERY VERY WELCOME! thanks ladies, you guys give me so much inspiration!

along came polly
Jun. 16th, 2004 08:48 pmok, i'm assuming this is a really simple easy crochet pattern using chains and maybe sc stitches, and it is probably in a triangle shape.. but i haven't made any shawl type things yet.
does anyone have a pattern for the shawl that jennifer aniston wore as polly in "along came polly"?
it looks like this
she also has a purple thin scarf which looks like it may have also been crocheted. oh, and a layered purple (i think) and green skirt, lol. sorry i can't find photos of that skirt... if anyone has any ideas how to make any of those three items, please do let me know. lol.
OH, and also, just so this isn't a question only post, here is my latest crochet creation:
mr. locococo (the coconut)!
