i'd love to say i made the pendant, but i couldn't make anything turn out so beautifully surreal in any short piece of time. i have adorned it on a sterling silver chain though!

Hey guys. This purse is a total rip from everyone else's ideas but it took me a whole day to make. It's made of vinyl material and the red lining on the handles has little white hearts on it (that's also what lines the inside). The picture in front is encased in one of those plastic sheet holder thingies and the trim around it is just folded ribbon. Anyway, some pictures behind the cut.(There's also that scarab beetle necklace that looks like that ant one.)

Oh... and the text says "love" in Chinese.

craft background story:

my favourite teacher in the world, my calculus teacher, is retiring.
he teaches caluclus and welding and is possibly the most interesting man in the world. my class is the last generation of (what he calls) his turbonerds. anyway, i photocopied some of my calculus work and decoupaged a frame, adding a picture of us taken for the yearbook on st. patricks day and a signature he signed on an assignment for me a while ago.

it's not an overly special craft but hopefully some people might appreciate the nerdiness.

Howdy all!

I'm going to be travelling to Vancouver Island this
weekend for a couple of weeks (specifically Parksville, Qualicum,
Tofino and Duncan areas) and was wondering if anyone had any good
woolly/knitting/spinning/crafty fun spots to hit? My DH said to find
some craft fairs, shops etc to visit so any and all help is much
appreciated! I'm a tourist dangit! Any touristy suggestions welcomed
too...

Thanks!

Hi, I just got my second hole in my ears. Because of that I have gotten creative and made some earrings. Not too impressive, but I like them )

The past three or four times I've been to the fabric store, I've debated whether to get this airplane fabric. I finally did, and made a variation on the circle skirt. Read more... )

I've been a member of this community for a while (I joined during finals week, and wasted many precious studying hours looking through the memories and at past posts), but have never posted anything of my own, since I don't have a camera. One of my roommates just got one though, so he took pictures for me tonight! So now I can share it all with you. Honestly, I'm a little nervous... the stuff you guys make is all so awesome! :)

My friends say I'm like Martha Stewart, but cooler. Cooler because I'm not going to jail! )

I also made the super cheezy "I HEART Zack Morris" icon I'm using. :)

I hope you enjoyed my crafty creations... there will be more in the near future, I'm sure. Not having homework to do every night gives me so much more time to be crafty!

The tutorial for this purse is behind the LJ cut. I warn you that they're all drawings I made and took pictures of. The pictures are huge for clarity... 56k people beware. Everyone else, enjoy. If you have any questions or if there's any confusion please let me know and I'll try to explain it a little better.

And awaaayyyy we go! )

Why, oh why am I unable to find the post I want/need/crave?! I've scourged the memories/faq section & now my eyes are bleeding.

Woe is me.

Can anyone direct me to the post where a craftgrrl put a sort-of pinstripe thing in her jeans to widen the legs a little? She had an icon about herself as a pirate...

I'll delete this once I find it, honest.

My next doll project is a tribute to She-Ra. I'm using an older-bodied Barbie for a more cartoonish look, but I'm also using higher-quality and better-looking materials than the action figures of the 80s.

Here's a reference photo.

1. The headdress. Originally I thought I was going to make it out of sculpey or something similar and then paint it gold, but then it occurred to me that I could get a nicer look by using metal. Is there gold metal you can buy on the craft store market that cuts and shapes easily? I'm rerooting the hair and not filling in the follicles directly under the headdress, so getting it to lie flat isn't really an issue.

I suppose I can do the metal thing with the other accents on her clothes too, if that works out.

2. The boots. The only Barbie shoes I have are a pair of plastic high-heeled sandals. I figured I could sew gold lame into the shape of a foot-less boot, attach it to the sandals, and then paint the sandals to match. I sew the dolls into their clothes, so getting the boots on and off isn't an issue.

3. The sword. I have a metal nail file that I'm going to break the plastic handle off and file into a flat and sharp doll sword, then superglue into a clay handle. Any suggestions for the best way to file the edges and the flat down?

(And for anyone who's tempted to say "why don't you just buy an old She-Ra action figure?" this is for a friend who asked me to make it. I'd kind of like to extend my repertoire to stuff that children of the 80s don't have a lingering obsession with. :) )
