It was my friend's birthday, so I made a card.
ooh, the colours (picture behind cut, weee) )
the envelope was bright yellow paper, the card is lime green "ribbed" cardstock, bright blue vellum, fushia raffia, and a black gel pen. Oh, and three silver sequins.
I feel like I forgot something, but I don't know what...Hmmm *taps chin*

Does anyone here needle point? Like with the plastic grids and yarn?

My boyfriend's grandma passed away last year and now we have her boxes upon boxes filled with bright yarn and those plastic grids. There are also books and patterns, but everything seems to be for the holidays and not just "every day."

I started with a beginer kit now and fell in love with how much fun it is (and easy, and portable, etc.). But just because it's fun doesn't mean it's neccisarily stylish to my decorating taste. I decided I want to decorate my bathroom with the stuff though...Tissue box cover, potpourri holder, door hanger that says "#1" on one side and "#2" on the other, etc. Well, I think it's funny anyway, and I want a whole bunch of smart-ass things to stitch onto random decorative crap.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get (free) neat patterns for needle pointing? Or what about funny quirky things to make? I pretty much used up all my creative energy on that "#1" and "#2" idea there.

So I've been making a bunch of cards and I've been wanting to give them to people or else people have been offering to buy them. However, I do not have envelopes for them. I searched around at Michaels and the envelopes were ridiculiously expensive (at least 50cents each). Does anyone know where I can get card sized envelopes (~4.5x5.5inches) that are not so expensive or how to go about making envelopes that aren't so expensive? I don't really want to add 50cents onto the cost of the card just for an envelope.

Has anyone ever painted the outside of a coffee mug? I'm not sure how to protect it so the paint won't come off. I have some great sealants, but they aren't food safe.

apologies for the text-only post.

I've been making things out of duct tape (purses, wallets, cell phone cases) for a little while now, and I've been using sticky back velcro as a closure for the purses and cell phone cases, but it seems that the bond of velcro is stronger than the bond of the sticky part of the velcro to the unsticky part of duct tape. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it stay better? In my experience, not much sticks to the shiny side of duct tape. I tried sewing it on with my sewing machine, but that only semi-worked. I might try hand sewing, but I'd like to know if anyone had any better ideas first.

Also! For anyone who makes purses out of duct tape, how do you make the strap secure to the purse? Because my method of it has led to some wearing in those weak spots over time, which isn't ideal. Heh.

Thanks so much!

As has been being discussed in a previous post, I am starting a compilation of zinester's/artist's drawings to be included in a coloring book! Inspired by the theraputic effects of coloring in my own drawings in my sketchbook, I thought it would be quite splendid to put out a full-sized zine of various zinesters line drawings and comics for others to color in.

So here are the specifics for submissions:

*the theme is, very loosely, a random moment/event/happening that happened to you, that you imagine happening to you, etc... you can be creative with this!

*drawings/comics should be able to fit on an 8x11 sheet of paper (this will be a full-sized zine)

*your drawing does not have to be complex or intricate or even good! just make it so that it has enough spaces in it that people can use atleast a few colors to color it in. ideally, your finished drawing should probably be done in ink and/or marker.

*needless to say, please do not submit any racist/sexist/homophobic/offensive drawings. not that you would. i just have to say that.

*your drawings and comics can be submitted in 2 different ways:
you can mail it to me at the following address:
Sally Harless
PO Box 2135
Bloomington, IN
47402

OR you can scan your image and email it to me at sjharles@indiana.edu.

*also, i think it would be great if all submitters include a little bio about themselves, saying who they are, what they like, and maybe a little explaination of their drawing/comic.

*submissions are due August 20, 2004. that is in 2 months from me posting this (i want to get it all together before school starts)

*all contributers will receive a free copy of the finished zine, so please be sure to include your mailing address when you send in your submission!

all comments/questions/suggestions are more than welcome!
happy drawing!

I recently bought some new shelves. There in the shapes of cubes and I have 3 stacked on top of eachother and one sitting next to the 3.
I wanted to put picture frames, candles, flowers etc. In the cubes.

Does anyone know of any cheap ways to customize picture frames? Because I'm planning on just buying really cheap, not so great looking ones and then making them pretty? Any suggestions, please.

I'm also going to buy some odd container,so I can put fake flowers in it. Can someone give me any ideas on what kind of inexpensive container I could put flowers in? I'm willing to customize it.

Does anyone have any ideas of what else I could fit in the cubes?I might buy an inexpensive light or something. Like a lava lamp, and get matching flowers, and candles.

I know half of this makes no sense but help me out? I'm leaving in an hour or so..so anyhelp is appreciated.

well after posting here and getting a lot of great responses (thanks you guys) i decided that i would just try to freehand a sweater for pip. i copied a dog sweater that my roomate had which was for a much bigger dog and it was a little bit different but my sweater came out even better than the one i copied. the sweater i was copying had no chest coverage at all so i added that strip going from his neck to his belly myself. i think it makes a big difference in how warm the sweater will keep him.

i don't have a pattern for it at all. i just kept crocheting, trying it on him, estimating, and just totally did it on the fly. i plan on making a bunch more for him in all different colors. :)
next time i'll write a pattern while i'm making it but it really is just trial and error.

I just saw Napolean Dynamite (I highly recommend it) and I really want to make a "Vote for Pedro" shirt, so where can I buy a plain white/navy ringer shirt? Stores or reliable online stores. Michael's doesn't have any. I'd like one by Friday. Thanks.

My name is Chelsea Pierce, and I am located in Chandler, Arizona. :D I don't have a sawing machine yet, sadly. I have made a couple shirts, but want to do A LOT MORE.

Shawl I finished. :) Not anything like the one Polly wore in Along Came Polly (I had trouble with the rough pattern I was given, although I think I will attempt it when I have thinner yarn).

This shawl was created out of the following:
+ this pattern
+ black acrylic worsted weight yarn
+ size k crochet hook
+ two days straight playing ffxi & watching sex and the city

Photos are behind the lj-cut.

So I found a huge pile of slides hiding in my parents' trash can. Ohh you never throw out crafty supplies when you have a daughter like me. They were properly scolded for throwing out treasure.

I have two questions. I am making my own invitations and I want them to be, of course, perfect. Here they are!

1) I am going to be adhering Kodak inkjet glossy paper onto card stock. Would spray fixative be best or another method?

2) I want to use transparent envelopes and seal them with a wax seal and ribbon. Will this end up melting the transparent envelopes? Let me know now before I do the ordering. ;)

Thanks for your help!

This is an annoucement/invitation I did for a young couple who are quickly becoming my very favorite people. We decided on the peas in a pod as they've described themselves as such on several occasions (awww) and it lends itself to the dinner instead of the more traditional cocktail party

It's barely noticeable in the picture but the pea pod is lightly embossed on a heavy piece of linen paper. The torn edges were hand brushed with chocolate artist chalk. The invite is printed in a mid tone brown on beige cardstock double mounted on a heavy chocolate cardstock.

The best part about this (in my opinion) is that behind the pea pod there is a dot of essential oil so that when the guest recieve the invitation that are not only visually pleased but are greeted with aroma as well.

It's going into handmade envelopes with a cover of raw vellum. You can kinda notice the calligraphy that will adorn the envelopes in the background of the picture.

They decided on really informal lettering leading up to the actual wedding invitations done in copperplate calligraphy.

We picked up some POM Wonderful juice tonight, and I thought the bottle would make a cool vase. I'd like to take the painted logo, etc. off the bottle. What would be the best thing to use to remove that type of paint without scarring or smearing paint all over it?
