My sister had me make a book purse for her friend's birthday. She really loves Matchbook Romance, so I used some of those lyrics & decoupaged them on the cover.

That's the spine; Stories & Alibis is the name of the album.

A really good friend of mine just got back from spending a year in Brazil. Hung out with her today for the first time - that put a BIG smile on my face. She was looking in my bookshelf and found a diary that I'd made. It's my only attempt at bookbinding, and I wish I'd taken a picture of it before I filled it up. She liked it anyway. I figured I'd make her one just because I remembered today how much I appreciate being with her.

I guess this is the part where I blame the photo's on my digital camera, but I'm really just an awful photographer. :)

I used leftover paper. The paper with the feet is from a stationary set that I got at Ian Snow in Machulleth(?) a week ago, on my trip to Wales. The yellow is handmade, the black and white is pretty generic stuff that I had lying around.

The book is in A5 format.

hey all.

i tried looking in the memories for this, but couldn't find anything.

i'm trying to paint some walls in the way that old mediterranean homes are painted. it kind of looks like where the topmost layer of paint fades a bit to reveal the bottom layer of paint. i was wondering if any of you have any ideas on how to imitate this, without painting layers. i was thinking that i could possibly paint on the main color, and while it's still wet, put on some off-white paint and smear it a bit, but i don't know how well it'll work.

also, does anyone happen to know how much molding costs? like the kind of molding you put on walls?

How do you get attention from males? Show them the duct tape tote bag that you just made. *grin* (No sewing involved) Hubby and the guy that built our deck and fence were both in awe...

My boyfriend's mom was looking all over the place for Dick and Jane printed fabric, and after a good amount of time searching, we found nothing. I have faith in you all! Please help us find something... If they make sushi printed fabric, why cant they make Dick and Jane?

By the way, this is my first post. I've been watching this community for months, and it's finally time to start posting. I know text-only is boring, so I'll have pics later. Thanks again!

i havent done this, but i was somewhere the other day and i saw this and i thought it was a great idea:

they used a bunch of strings of colorful mardi gras beads to make a picture. it was sort of similar to mosaic, with different colors of beads making different shapes and parts of the picture, like the wound the beads around to make circles and stuff. it was really cool looking and i wish i had a picture of it/could explain it better. i just thought i would share this idea, since i imagine there are some of yall out there who have beads laying around from a parade or something and might want something to do with them.

the yellow beads are from a broken necklace in a box of them that a friend gave me
i have just enough to make one more with sterling spacer beads for my mother in law
they are all very simple, but the yellow beads have a snowflake effect inside a smooth lumpy surface
that i think add a bit of glamour

Does anyone know an easy way to take the rivets off of jeans? I'm taking the back pockets off a pair of shorts I'm going to turn into a skirt, and there are rivets on the corners. I want them off! :)

I love making presents to everyone, but I think it's difficult to find fun stuff to make to older people, who really don't_need_anything. I'm quite pleased with this present for my grandfather's 76th birthday though.

I hope he likes it )

Back in the day, I stumbled upon this and decided I really really wanted to do something like it, but not exactly it, ya know? Though, I'll probably end up making mine a friend almost identical to that one...

And now I sort of hate spoons... )

Got in a productive mood today, after cleaning out the sunroom where the dog had been kept when she was home (she's now on the road with one of my partners in her big rig). So I took advantage of the nice bright, clean space and made some stuff.

Obi top

Today I bought this black long-sleeved tee with the intention of trying out stenciling...but the siren call of the sewing machine was just too much, as well as the chinese brocade cushion covers that had been kicking around in my room for far too long. It's supposed to look kind of like an obi sash, but instead it makes me look like, er, a present waiting to be unwrapped, which is rather disconcerting.
