hi! if anyone could help me with this i would be very very grateful:
i am making underwear to sew at a small boutique in kansas city missouri called birdies. the only problem is, my friend and i attempted to make 3 patterns (s,m,l) but unforunately, since a lot of the sizing was guess work, we ended up with a lot of flaws.
the problem is, i find the right hip measurement that corresponds with the size, but i can't find other important measurements like crotch depth. i can't sell any of this underwear if it ends up all being wacky sizes, and i can't even go by my own measurements because i fall in between a size (i can go up or down).

so, if any of you seamstresses, or anyone else, can direct me to a page that has the complete measurements for women's/junior's panties (or if anyone who fits a size xs, s, m, l, xl feels like contributing their measurements...) then i would be very grateful, because these are supposed to be finished by tomorrow! eek.

edit!!:
does anyone know if you can buy a new, more sensitive foot pedal for your sewing machine? mine goes from way way slow to WAY way fast. i can't afford a new sewing machine, and i doubt its fixable- i think its just kind of crappy. either way, its really messing me up, and i can't make straight lines because its always moving too fast. it is almost impossible to get it going at a constant steady pace.

well this is my first post in here. and i figured that this is a craft i came up with last night and thouht i would share it with the rest of you. well theres two actually lol. the first one is home made peppermint mocha:

make your normal black coffee with how many scoops you use- i usually use two of decafe folgers.
pour yourself a cup of coffee, then put how many scoops of either packaged hot chocolate or i used nestly quick and i put four scoops in. and then you can either use peppermint exctract or what i use is a peppermint stick. i have no idea where my mom bought the peppermint sticks but oh i love them. i use the cans also when the sticks are gone. she said wal mart or some where.

second craft:

candle made from candle wax and yarn.

ok so tonight i was doing homework and messing around with candles and i had this metal tin that one candle was in and all the wax was gone. so i just pourd wax from the other candles in there and then doubled up some yarn and let it sit so the wax can harden. now i have not tried this yet so i dont know how well it will work but i just thought that i would throw a project out there to you guys.

So I'm here at work trying to use the domestic machine.
It's a Janome. Not sure what model. Fairly new. (not antique, anyway)

I was stitching something and I think I bumped the reverse switch somehow.
Anyway, it won't go back to forward stitch.
It just keeps going backward, and even when I hold down the switch as I'm sewing, it stays in that direction.

Any tips?!

That's right. I said it. Look at all the Halloween stuff she has. I can't wait to make jack o'lanterns and things.

Sorry, that's all I've got. I hope to have photos of stuff soon. I've been making wool bags like a madwoman.

This is a wing related question: I can never seem to find wire hangers in bulk. Are they still out there? I always find plastic, or the ones with the wire hook and the plastic base. I've shopped at k-mart, target, and publix. heh. If not, what's the guage on those normally, so I can just buy the wire?

and:

I have a couple of vintage hats that have lost their shape. I would reshape them using my own head, but some don't fit. is there a way to do this? would a mannequin head work, if so, where can I find one cheap?

Thank you!

I checked memories but I didnt find much help there. (Now that its october all the fun costume projects are coming in :) and it makes me HAPPY! ) I need to stripe stockings for my halloween costume. and I was wondering how I would do this. Im thinking im going to tea stain the whole thing then go and stripe with the other color. Ok this will work better with a visual...(of course my computer is being a butt right now cuz Norton is scanning it.) ok got it! wizzle meets a faery! )

yeah those stockings. So...any ideas on striping?

Oh man this costume makes me so excited you have no idea. Now all I need is a sewing machine...

ok, so I was really inspired with the yarn posts today and now I want to learn to spin soooooooooo bad. I have not the slightest clue about anything to do with spinning. soooo...I was hoping you all could answer some of my questions?

1) I want to learn to spin more of the thick novelty yarns...would a spinning wheel be the only right thing for this or can a drop spindle also get the job done?

2) should I try the drop spindle or just go for a spinning wheel?

3) Where can I find cheap spinning wheels? I've already spotted a few on ebay but since I know nothing about them it's hard

4) what do you use for dyeing?

5) what websites / books / etc. do you reccomend I follow for more info?

Thank you!

oh and by the way for any of you in ny...did you hear about the knit off in union square this sunday from 12-5? they will have free lessons. Wheeeeeeee!

so like any sensible voter i watched the debates last night. now not being one to clench fists in rage and shake them at the tv - oh no not me - i had to do something with my hands. thusly this was born:

of course its duct tape as usual. its really just a prototype at the moment but i was moderately pleased with it.
