In baking, can I use regular food coloring instead of food coloring gel paste? I have a recipe I want to use from a Martha Stewart Kids magazine and I can't find this colored gel paste she's talking about. If I can't substitute for the regular - where can I find this gel paste?

I'm still in high school, and I'm the president of a cancer awareness club. We're having a craft and bake sale tomorrow and I took pictures of the things I made to show all you craftgrrls!

more decoupaged Velamins tins and fleece ponchos! (image intensive!) )
I hope my sale goes well.

(P.S. - If you happen to live in the Boston area, please check out my LJ for more info on the sale if you want to stop by. We are trying to raise $5,000 for cancer research!)

hey kids!

i'm in such a bind. i'm doing some personal shopping for a gentleman here in NYC, and i need to find him some buttons.

they're small, white, with a heat-resistant back to prevent cracking/breaking during dry cleaning, and he wants about 100 of them.

can anyone suggest anywhere in (preferably) Manhattan (but also brooklyn/queens) where i might be able to find a large quantity of buttons?

thanks so muchas!

Someone in the vintage_sex journal (that's where I got the pics) suggested that I post these here. I just made these pillows as a series that will include a huge vintage porn quilt. I'm trasfering the images to coffee-dyed cotton and using a bunch of store-bought materials to sew the pillows.

i'm just talking about general scarves and stuff. i have a TON of needles and i never know which size to pick when im starting a new scarf...

thanks! <3 lauren

ok iono...i know what i did wrong....but theres all this thread caught up where the bobbin is and im trying to pull it out but its all stuck and i cant get it out...how do i get it out?!?!

EDIT: scratch that. now it wont thread...the top thread wraps around in the bobbin part thing and when you turn the hand wheel thing it gets stuck at a certain part and the needle wont pull the bobbin thread up

so, i just finished this piece for a friend of mine and i think it is one of my favorites so far. it's made of a quartz crystal gemstone drop as the centerpiece and then I used moonstone faceted rondelles and light blue topaz rounds, every other. oh, i also added two small gemstone drops a few beads away from the center drop. what does everyone think? does the quartz in the center look odd since it isn't cloudy like the rest of the stones?

Thought I'd show off what I just made for my brother's girlfriend's birthday. Thanks to the instructions that I found at DeborahMerlo.com's DIY section, I think this turned out really swell.

It was super easy, and it didn't take long at ALL. Thought I'd post it in case anyone needed easy (and inexpensive! I paid 49 cents for the book, and the rest I already had on hand) gift ideas. I think I will try to find a more masculine book and make these for a couple of the guys on my list.

I want to make my boyfriend a little stuffed animal for Kwanzakkuh and put a little thingy inside that plays a recorded message when you push it. You know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, my problem is that I don't even know what to call the litle recordy thing that I'll need, yet alone where to get it. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey all! I've recently been on a rash of making knitting items (needles, stitch markers, etc) and cat collars/jewelry.

Okay. I have my eye on some pretty sparkly vinyl at a fabric store here in town. I think I've finally decided what to make with it.

My question is this:
What kind of precautions/special things do I have to do to sew with vinyl? Do I need a special needle for my machine?

I know there's vinyl-craftin' grrls here that can help me!

Muchas gracias in advance!

Hi!

I checked the FAQ, but I didn't really see anything like this...

Have any of you girls ever tried to make a record into a clock? I bought the clock parts (hands, numbers, ect.) and I have a Record, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so, did it work out?

My main worry is that the numbers won't be in the right positions/the record won't work out somehow.

I'll be so glad when I'm finally finished with everyone's Christmas presents. Procrastinating like this is killing me!

thanks for any help!

Let's see ... I've made candles today (Lovespell & Wild Watermellon) ... made a purse and a fleece blanket (premade kit).

Pictures Here - the purse & blanket  )

The blanket is for my niece ... it was a kit I bought at Wally World ... where you cut a six inch square out of the corners and then cut the material (both layers) into six inch strips and tie the two together ... came out better than I expected ... pretty cool ... and the purse ... well it came out okay ... not thrilled with the closure part, but hey it'll be okay ...

Some craftyness I might get my Christmas stuff done *crosses fingers*

I've been salivating waiting for the Miyuki cube beads I ordered to come in. It was a set of 25 colors, 100 beads of each color. They finally came in Friday and today was the first time I had a few minutes to myself.

So I made a choker.

and a little necklace )

I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on my last post. I haven't had time to get around to replying to all the comments, but still, thank you all very much. (It wouldn't fit in his mailbox so it's at the post office until tomorrow. :(!!)

another cool easy-baking idea:

Stained Glass Pretzles: Crush Jolly Ranchers Candies and sprinkle on pretzles bake or microwave until candy melts.
found it here

but here's my real question. i made a ton of those chocolate dipped spoons (with peppermints crushed on top)

and was looking for an easy (esp. cheap this close to christmas), but cute way of packaging. so far, i'm sending out groups of threes, one of which will be mint.

many are going to be mailed across the state, so easy is esp. important. i'm thinking saran wrap/foil somehow, but i wanted something a little more dressy. i have beads, glitter, alphabet letters, vinyl pieces, fishing floss stuff...? any ideas?

Hats are fun. I knitted this [with pattern from S&B] for one of my friends. But I'm in love with it, and I've got the only head around, so you ahve to see me modelling it.
