what did i do wrong? i'm being careful about shifting my stitches after every needle to avoid laddering, but i could NOT get the join to be "pretty".

I drilled holes in my newly found vintage bottle caps, and made them into cute little pendants for necklaces. I turned the Lemon Soda ones into Emo soda ones as I had promised. One of them will be reserved for the boyfriend ;) As usual.

I'll cut them this time so you don't all drown my bottlecap craftyness.

*in the voice of the COUNT* 1 bottle cap, 2 bottle cap, 3 bottle cap! AHH ahh ahh. )

i'm new at this and i'm not sure if this has already been posted, but if it has forgive me.

the other day i was cleaning out my draws and i found 3 t-shirts, 1 long sleeve shirt, and a tank top with a bleach stain on the side. i saved them because i could always do something with them, but the problem is i don't know what i can do with them...HELP!

your ideas would be appreciated :)

My boyfriend and I are preparing for our housewarming party this coming weekend. Last night we painted and decoupaged these shelves.

On to the bitchin' shelves! )

I still have pictures from Halloween to show you guys! This is ridiculous!
All that resizing and uploading is just so much work.. :P Anyway, I'll get to it eventually.

For now, here are some heart earrings I made for Valentine's Day. I'm not crazy about the 14th and all, so I figured I'd stay away from the cupids and xoxo and cutesy stuff, and instead make some pretty heart earrings.

[Let me know if I need to put the image behind a cut.]

So I went to buy screen printing ink for the totebag that i am stenciling tonight and the lady sold me a jar that said it would be perfect for what I was doing.

I get home and stencil and then read the jar and it says that it is not for fabric.. only wood, paper, etc. etc. Damn Michaels employee.

Anyway, does anyone know if I could coat my totebag with something so that it doesn't run or smear or something? I would show pictures but my domain is down so I can't post anything yet. But it turned out fantastic so thank you to everyone that was patient and helped.

Any suggestions of what I could stencil on with a jar of screenprinting ink that can't be used with fabric?

So I've been in this community for a while, and have posted all of: two pairs of earrings, and a duct tape wallet. So I decided it was time for a nice healthy post. (with more than earrings and duct tape)
yay for crafty image heavy-ness )
that was a doozy.
and and, you should join [livejournal.com profile] heartstraeh

Can I get some random ideas for some relatively quick/ simple crafts? Something using easy to find supplies and not a whole lot of them(me=broke for now), and can be completed in a few days time, for someone pretty new to the whole crafty thang? I know it's a really general question, but I would really appreciate some replies...maybe links or just some tutorials...Thanks!

I had to create a new journal to keep up with the arts/crafts community so here I am :) Originally [livejournal.com profile] blacksquiggles...

these are faux stained glass window clings. They can be made in any shape and with Valentine's day approaching I thought little heart ones would be cute... they're made with pearlex powders and polymer clay (liquid and solid)

I took a pair of $5 thrifted jeans, some potatoes, acrylic paint, and a linoleum stamp which I made myself (my very first one, too!) and turned it all into this; http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/14216959/
Sorry the detail's a bit blurry.

If you’ve never tried potato stamps, you really should. They’re fast, easy, and best of all CHEAP, so if you screw up, who cares? http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/8063/potato_stamping.htm is a great tutorial, although I use my linoleum carving tools instead of just a knife because you can make much more intricate designs that way.

Excuse my left arm. I got a little carried away...

Hi,
I just recently taught myself how to knit and although i like the speed of crochet i like the look and versatility of knit items a little more.
I can't read a pattern yet but i am pretty good at casting on (the cheater way, so i'm told but it seems to work for me), a basic knit stitch and binding off. So far i've got about 4 started scarves that i work on at random times and soon i will finish my first one.
I'd like to actually get together with other people who might have as much or more experience as myself or perhaps take lessons but don't know how to go about finding such groups.
I am a 30 year old, married, stay-at-home and work-at-home mom of a 21 month old little girl that keeps mommy on her toes and wouldn't mind escaping some evenings to hang out with other knitters in my area.
Do any of you belong to such a group or if you live in Orange County, California (I'm in Santa Ana) would you be interested in starting one?

(crossposted here and there......sorry if you see it more than once)

OK, you know this kind of ribbon? Like, that preppy grosgrain ribbon, with whales, pineapples, turtles, palm trees, etc...that they made belts and such out of in the 80's? I am trying to find a source for it. I have looked for hours and can only find the stuff on eBay....I will go through eBay if I *have* to, but I'd rather find a regular on-line store that sells it by the yard.

Anyone know? Thanks in advance for any help!

I have 2 1/2 yards of clear plastic 1/2" diameter surgical tubing. The only thing I can think of to use it on is those necklaces that are filled with candy, or rocks, or beads, etc. Any other clever ideas?

Thanks in advance.

hey all!
allow me to get right to the point:

MY QUESTION: Can any of you reccomend any really great crochet BOOKS that have great patterns etc.

i'd like to own a really kick ass crochet book with patterns and other good stuff, not just go to the online sites.

I already checked in memories, but I didn't find anything under crochet.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCED!!!!!!!

--edit--
or perhaps say which ones sucked for you? so i don't buy those! :)

I am pretty new to doing this, and I did search FAQ and maybe I'm missing something. But...

I got tons of alotoid tins, but don't know how to cover them up and make it look pretty. Any tips? I'm not even going to do some real fancy schmancy stuff, just plain vanilla.

Thanks bunches.

Any ideas of what to do with one of these containers? This one here isnt mine (found picture on image search), mine's a bit cleaner. Also, the top is like a hole with a round cap you put in it. So, what do you think?

was bored today watching Judge Judy. Found some old puka shell chips in my drawer so I came up with these puka shell/aqua bead earrings. Was kinda hard to take a decent pic, sorry...

I know there's no selling allowed on [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl, but since the sale has already taken place I don't think I can get in trouble for this. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] prairiegurl posted about embroidered flour sack towels she made, and I ended up buying one from her. I wanted to simply post to let everyone know that she does very good work, and I'm very happy with my new towel.

So just consider this an endorsement from a happy craftgrrl :)

So I went to the mall today and stopped by The Icing to browse around. Way at the back of the store they had some shot glasses that were made out of candy! You can take your shot and then eat the glass. I know some of my friends would love these and I was going to buy some, but since they were 3.99 a glass, I thought, well maybe I can try making some myself first. I'm not 100% sure how I should go about it though. The glasses there were made out of peppermints (like candycanes) so I was thinking maybe of melting some peppermint candies, then pouring it over a regular shot glass to take the form. Though I'd probably have to put cling wrap or something over it in order to get the shot glass out. I don't know. Would this work? Any better ideas? Any other candy I should try using? Or is my best bet just to buy the ones I saw? Thanks for any help!
