has anyone ever made their own lampshade? i've been googling, but everything i find is to decorate a pre-bought lampshade. (i checked the memories too.)

you know how when you look inside a lampshade, the frame is attached to the fabric or paper with what looks to be fabric tape? what is that? where can i get it? is it ridiculously expensive? what could i use instead?

i have a lampshade a friend made me, and she used electrical tape, but it hasn't held up very well. if worst comes to worst, i'll try duct tape, but i'd like to know what you're SUPPOSED to use.

i want to make a square hanging lampshade. i'm going to make my own frame, but i'm not quite sure how to put it all together.

help please!

A lot of shirts and dresses come with shoulder pads. I have really broad shoulders, so I always cut the pads out. Now I have a huge pile of these old pads in my sock drawer. Does anyone have any crafty ideas for something better to do with those old shoulder pads?

I'm looking for some good communities to sell..some higher scale communities would be even better. I'm specifically NOT looking for the places where people practically BEG others to buy their 3.00 earrings because they need to feed their dog, pay their rent, or whatever else they can come up with.

I've tried to seach and there are SO MANY places, it would be really nice if LJ could put the member count next to the communities in their results lists just so we can judge as to which are the best/busiest.

So, if you could help with some more art based, respectable communities filled with proud professional artists, I would love it. Thank you!

Is anyone familiar with any good websites that have a good button selection? I am looking for cute plastic buttons.

With all of this creative inspiration from craftgrrl, but no money to get new supplies, I started routing through my assorted craft supplies to see what I had laying around. Well, I cam across this stuff that I remember using in elementary school, but I can't remember what it is called (did I ever really know?) or how it works ~

They are thin rectangles of plastic (these are all metallic), and I remember you can cut them out & then heat them to shape them however you want. They will re-harden in that shape. I think they were really popular for making barettes in the 80's, but I don't think you can get them anymore. What I can't remember is how to heat it... I feel like you soaked it in warm/hot water until flexible, but does anyone else out there remember this stuff?? I would love to make something up with them.

A little something I made to take care of all the button pins I'm collecting, inspired by some of the Earring & pin holders I've Seen before.
Just a rectangle of cardboard & some fabric stuffed and stapled to it.

so, last night my friends surprised me with a birthday party at my favorite vegetarian restaurant. They hand me this large box, which I open to reveal this:

the Kenmore mini ultra sewing machine!

it turns out they walked around the dorms (where I'm an RA) asking people and friends for donations. Over 23 people donated.  This is so great and I can't get over how wonderful it was (I cried a bit!)

I thought everyone here would appreciate a site with Valentine Templates for chocolate boxes, funky milk carton boxes, paperdolls, etc.

You have to scroll down and click on the item, I use old cereal boxes and some imagination for some nice cards.

I have had a website for a while now but no pics so now I have plenty of pics. Here are a couple of crafty things I have created that I can finally take pics of! of course there are lots of pics :)

The new [livejournal.com profile] fire_enamel community is dedicated to the not so known art/craft of fire enamel over metal, by itself or applied to jewelry.

It's been created with the idea to be a meeting place for enamelers and all people interested in enameling, to showcase their work, ask questions, share techniques or anything related.

I'm posting this to many communities to get to as much enamelers that could be out there as I can, I hope I'm not bothering anyone, if I do so, please delete this entry.

i made this tri-wicked candle! i love the tie-dye design it made.

hey guys
Im very new to purling

Im wondering - do you cast on in the same way as knitting?

thanks!
[identity profile] brownlikewoah.livejournal.com
i just made candles for the first time, and while burning one of them i noticed that the wick didnt end up going straight to the bottom of the candle... there was an anchor on the end, but it didnt seem to do its job. any advice on how to get it to stay in place? is there something im doing wrong?

also, i read on some website that it was okay to use perfume to scent candles, and so i did so, then later read in the memories on here that its a horrible idea to do so, because you dont know how everything will react, and well, i just made my second set of candles and mixed various perfumes for the scent... will it be dangerous to light them?

[identity profile] flickerine.livejournal.com
okay- yo, so i've been a little lazy with my knitting lately, but i've become obsessed with the knit-crochet corset idea (ridiculously easy!)...i made a regular waist corset last week, and then yesterday i made a scarfette pictured below.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

i'll post pics of the regular waist corset later. i totally recommend this for new knitters because it's sooooo easy. and hot.
