So, I am making invites for a client of mine. To keep cost down for the client, I bought cardstock at AC Moore which was reasonably priced.

I am using a bone folder to put a fold in the cardstock and it is doing a weird thing - the paper along the crease is kind of buckling or cracking after I fold. Does that make sense? Any ever come across this? Is it indicative of the quality of the cardstock?

Thanks :)

My gf has been asked to help her 10 year old neice's class create a valentine's day craft. The 2 of us have made plenty of valentine's day related things in the past, but she needs something geared towards 10 year olds that only will take about an hour. I've googled some things but they're kind of boring so I figured I'd ask all you craftygrrls for ideas.
Thanks in advance!

OK I have a question.

What is something you can make and give to a baby for their first birthday? Something simple possibly?

I was thinking of a stuffed thing of some sort. It can't be a bear, because she has a fear of teddy bears (long story, but yea she has a fear of teddy bears).

Thanks for the help...I did check the memories

hello everyone.i just joined. :]

ive been lurking around here for about week and everyone here is awesomly gifted.i love everyones ideas and everything.ive been getting into do all sorts of crafts and stuff lately and im excited to get started.well i finally got my mom to let me re-do my room and part of the deal is that i would have to keep my ugly, fuzzy pink comforter and i could customize it or whatever in any way i wanted to.well my idea is to get all diffrent colors of fabric and cut out star shapes and sew them on top of the fuzzy part and like keep adding stars all over until i cover it all.my problem is that i dont wanna take the whole pink backing off and replace it with another cover and sew that one,so i was thinking i could sew on the stars and then just take a new cover and sew it over the pink so it covered the stiching and still have a new color on the bottom part instead of the pink.does any one think this is a good idea,or should i just take the orginal back off and then sew on a new the new back? thanks for any help :D

I was snowed in last night, so why not get crafty?

A girl I work with just found out she has mono.
Everyone at work has their own coffee cup, but lazy people are always using other people's mugs so they don't have to wash them. She was laughing about the nasty surprise the next person who uses her mug is going to get.... and i thought of a magical present for her.

I do a lot of painting on glass. I made some money this summer by painting custom wine glass sets, which people commission me to do as wedding gifts. The glass paint can also be used on porcelain and stonewear.

So I made this very special coffee mug:

'Lo :D My name is Joyce (BUTPLEASEPLEASECALLMESHIKOORSOMETHINGOFTHELIKE), and umm, I've been looking through this community for about a month now. I'm trying to learn how to sew and knit, but I don't really have a lot of time with school, violin, viola, and cello rehearsals, so that takes about 3 hours out my day, which only leaves me 2-3 hours a day to do what I want (except on weekends ;D). Oh yeah, and I love Harry Potter (SLYTHERIN BAYBEE OMG <3)

Anyway, since they've stopped making Potter Puppet Pal t-shirts, I've been wanting to make my own of Bother!Ron on it (<3), and having recently found the cheap screenprinting tutorial, I finally can (YAY! :D).

But, the problem is, it only tells you how to do one colour, and Bother!Ron has like, a lot, so, can I use multiple colours when using that screenprinting tutorial without messing up the entire thing? :D

Thanks bunches for anyones help! <3

I really want to make some duct tape flowers and other things, but where do I find the colored duct tape? I don't want it to be very expensive, but I do need bright colors like pink. Are there any online stores that sells them for reasonable prices. All the ones I've seen sell for like $8....and to honest I'm not really into paying $8 for tape!! Please help!!! If anyone has some that they want to sell that would be great to!!

Hey there! I'm new to the community, this is my first post here.

Well anyhow, I was wondering if anyone would happen to know how to make a bunny fleece hat, such as this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1345&item=5951845111&rd=1 I'd like to make one of my own, but I have no idea how to go about doing it. I'm assuming you'd need a pattern or something. If anyone could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated!

I printed these shirts last summer, and never put them up so thought I'd share.
These shirts were made in conjunction with a fundraiser for a photography scholarship in honor of one of my mother's friends that died in a car wreck last year.
The image I used was one of his photographs.

Screen printing paint isn't paint, its "ink" but that's not what you need to know. For tshirts, what you need to know is that regardless of what paint, ink, or whatever you use, if its not for tshirts you'll need to get some fabric medium. There's a picture of it below, and you can find it with the acrylic paints in most craft stores or craft sections in department stores.

You will need:
a screen
your image
a shirt
screenprint paint/ink for shirts OR screenprinting ink + fabric medium
fixative or some other method of putting your image on the screen (see below)
squeege
a nearby sink: this could get messy

bat-pack

tee-hee:

http://theroseroom.net/archives/bat%20back%20pack%20crop.jpg

It's a back-pack that look like a bat! (assuming the bat is rectangular, has red floppy wings, and no eyes).

I made it as a gift for my sister for her birthday. The fabric came from Wal-mart and is black fuzzy polyester (outside) and dark grey flannel lining. I think the wings are a poly blend of some kind as well. To make it I pretty much sewed the right sides of the fabric together on 3 sides into a giant rectangle, turned it inside out, attached the straps and wings, folded down the front part, sewed it closed and attached the teeth. It closes with white velcro, which I also cut out to look like fangs.

It made me really happy, because I think it turned out well (given my limited skills) and my sister liked it too. I may need to make another one to keep.

I repainted my bedroom recently and wanted some kind of India type goddess for the wall, but of course being of low cashflow, I couldn't afford what I wanted so I decided to paint my own. Let me know what you think of this to go with my bedroom.

Thanks for your time ;)

I've searched the memories and don't see anything about this. I'm looking for some kind of something to hold my name tag for work. It's a piece of paper with my photo and name on it, and it's slightly bigger than a business card. Most people have theirs in a clear plastic name tag holder thingy with a pin on the back of it. I'm looking for something more crafty! I'm thinking something on a ribbon that goes around my neck, but I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas? Thank you!

is there something to put in acrylic paint that makes it stay on fabric without washing off?

[identity profile] alluneedislooov.livejournal.com
Hi everyone, I hope this is allowed, I just figured a lot of you crafty gals (and guys?) would be making valentines this year.

I was just wondering what kind of mushy quotes you were going to use. I'm making my own this year and I don't want to just write "Be Mine" and stuff like that.

Soooo, give me your mushiest, cheesiest valentines day lines.

TIA,

Ashley
[identity profile] weddedblog.livejournal.com
So, we're big valentine's day people around here. Since we got married around this time (on the 17th), we combine the two into a week-long extravaganza. It goes without saying that we decorate.

To start, I made a heart mobile in the dining area.

It's made using the grade-school wax paper/crayons/iron method. And it's hung on a paper lantern covering our 80's light fixture.

Make it yourself!
Place protective paper on your surface, especially if it's your ironing board. Don't want wax everywhere.
Place a rectangle of wax paper on your surface.
Fun Part: Shave crayons over your wax paper using a pencil sharpener. Combine colors in unique ways but stick to a few colors, 2 or 3, for each work of art. More colors will mke it look more and more like brown or black when it melts. Make sure there are spots where some colors are concentrated and make sure about the inner two thirds of the wax paper is completely covered with shavings.
Cover shavings with another rectangle of wax paper.
Cover with a protective peice of paper and iron! Just iron over the entire surface with your iron set at high (cotton). Make sure the entirity of the wax is melted. The colors will blend and look faboo!
Set aside to cool and work on your next masterpiece.
Cut into any shape you like. These make great sun catchers so make a bunch and put them in your windows.

There's more, Come see. )

Okay, this might be a little bit more art related than craft, but I'll ask anyway and I might get lucky.

I've got the idea to do a picture on a (gessoed) canvas with brush and ink.
The ink that I've got is "Higgins Black Magic" ink, it says it's waterproof. Nonetheless, when I get done, I want to protect the piece somehow.

I've seen varnish for oil and acrylic paintings in stores, and eventually I might get some because I've got some paintings almost done.

Would this use for an ink piece? The ink says waterproof which of course means that it's not soluble with water, but what about the oils or whatever is in the varnish?

Has anybody tried this before?
Is there an alternative solution? (Yeah, put it under glass, but framing's more expensive than I have money for...and a little bottle of varnish is much cheaper than a big ol' frame set.)

Anybody?

hmm... would stretch poplin (97% cotton and 3% spandex) be a suitable fabric to make a skirt? lucky dots is on sale & i would looooove a skirt out of that fabric. how many yards do you think would be enough for a women's large circle or a-line skirt?
