After an interesting weekend, I decided to commemorate my adventures with my friends by turning the bottlecaps of two Smirnoff drinks into earrings. I peeked though the memories of [livejournal.com profile] diy_tutorials and [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl and didn't find a project exactly like this one. My friends thought this was an outstanding idea and immediately offered up all of their bottlecaps for the projects.

The earrings are made with beads of many kinds, head pins and ear wires.

It is predicted that I might have set a trend on our small campus.

The pictures! )

I am wondering if anyone would be willing to take a look at the first stage of my new site. We're still wondering about the color...other options are blue, or a more natural tone on tone tan/cream color. The links aren't ready etc., and I still have stuff to put along the bottom (the process itself, classes/workshops, press/events etc). Your input is greatly appreciated!

lap desk

Hi I am making a gift for someone who is bed-ridden. I want to make a lap desk. Here is a link of a picture of a fancier one:
http://store1.yimg.com/I/brandsonsale-store_1830_54492497

I have bought an appropriate top, styrofoam and fabric are on the way. My question are:
-what is the best fabric to use for this?
-Pattern?how do I cut the fabric so that I won't end up with any slits in the corners? I am thinking of hemmings an inch in and then glueing that part onto the board.
-What glue is best for fabric to cardboard? welbond or gluegun?

Any other ideas on how to make this in a more convenient way are welcome.

i had a small question. i've been looking at buying a sewing machine. me and my mom actually. what features should i hold out for on my machine. this will probably be a machine i will use forever and will probably cost around 300-350. right now, i have ZERO sewing experience. my mom said she talked to the lady at joanns i think and they said their machines come with free lessons for life. so that's a plus. i know sears offers a few lessons, but as far as the machine itself, what should i be looking for?

thanks, girls! :)

Ok I am very new to knitting I learned 2 months ago, so I am very tired of scarfs and dishcloths so I bought some circular needles and well I didn't know they came in different lengths. Well I don't know anyone with a 29" head so I decided to make a purse
bag )

and of course I can't knit with out making a little altoid tin to hold on my little knitting stuff. I used polymer clay to cover it

Like the shoes.
Ive checked thrift stores, and im too cheap to buy them from stores like urban outfitters

i wanted to paint them, and if i messed up, i wouldnt get mad at myself for wasting a shoe.

thanks

I don't know if I'm just being too picky or what, but...
I've been making a bunch of those altered Altoids/AOL/etc. tins. I sand them down to bare metal finishing with a very fine grit sandpaper, and then paint them with auto body paint (thinking it's got to be more durable) before I do whatever I'm going to do with the top.
The problem is this: The paint on the area where the cover snaps down over the bottom when the tin is closed always wears off, obviously from the opening and closing of the tin. Is this unavoidable, or is there something I can do about it? Yeah, it only shows when the tin is open, but still...I know it's a minor thing, but it really bugs me, and I don't want to sell something I think needs improvement.

Hello all you loverly crafty ladies and gents!
I've just become addicted to knitting and I was
wondering who prefers bamboo needles to metal ones?
And if anyone had some reputable websites where one
could purchase bamboo or wooden needles from?
I looked through the memories (WOW lots of great info)
and didn't see anything. I also plan on joining the knitting LJ
community and will probably ask there too....Thank you Thank you!

Hi Everyone!

Me and my dad are throwing my mother a surprise 50th birthday party (Vintage Valentine's Day theme)...Since my dad spent a ton on the place, he refused to spend a lot for favors/centerpieces (10 tables, 90 or so people, EEEK)... so here's what I came up with... please tell me what you think, I'm considering adding some white polka dots or lace to the bucket

Bucket from Target : $1
Tissue paper: $2
Styrofoam: (FREE i found it!)
Pipe cleaners: $3 for about 100

Thanks!
Meg ♥

I was inspired by the shrug post a little ways down, and I really want to make this. However, buying five balls of Debbie Bliss at about $15 each is insanely out of my price range.

Does anyone have any ideas for good substitution yarns?

Thanks!

p.s.
my digital camera is currently traveling here from california, so i'll be able to post pictures of my creations soon! score!

Here's the first 3 pages (was supposed to be 4 but I'm lazy and also waited till last minute) and the theme was to incorporate our photos with images from magazines

Hi! I have been watching on here for ages but have only recently sat myself down and figured out how to post and add pictures. I am based in UK, and wanting to be proactive in developing a better, more funky craft scene in UK as it doesn't seem to be much at the moment...at least not in my neck of the woods anyway!

I am mainly passionate about crochet and buttons and design and make my own stuff which I have stuck behind the cut for you! I hope I can motivate myself to post more often on here! I have made my own version of the armwarmers as well...I call them Flittens© (fingerless mittens) and they are getting fairly popular in the UK at craft fairs I have done...I love them! I also make scarves and hats and pretty much try anything! I would love any great crochet links and unusual patterns...so let me know if you have any!

Take a peek... )

I'm a newbie to the community, and to DIY itself. :D

I'm going shopping for some stenciling stuff tonight, and I was wondering if this sort of paint is good for stenciling. Will it wash out super quick? :x

Thanks in advance.

I already have Readymade. Are there any other good crafty magazines out there?
[identity profile] shikonira.livejournal.com
Yeah. well, not really. I want to ask some questions on going about and making some of these wonderful things :D

First thing I would like to make, is a Butterbeer necklace, as describes in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, worn by Luna (Loony) Lovegood. It is made out of Butterbeer (A non-alchoholic drink that I guess tastes like hot cream soda, that can be bought at any wizarding taven ;D) caps, which I guess would be like beer caps. What type of paints should I use to paint the bottle caps, and also, how will I go about attaching them to a string/wire.

Secondly, I really, really want to make a Weasley is Our King badge, also from Order of the Phoenix, worn by the Slytherins. It is described at being crafted out of silver (metal, in my case, because I am a poor teenager ):), in the shape of a crown, and the words Weasley is Our King engraved into it. Now, as I said before, I have no money to get this made, or buy an entire Silversmith-ing (?) machine, so is there anyway I can get a cheap, nice-looking badge that has the feel and look of metal?

And also, feel free to offer idea's and tutorials on more Potter-verse crafts ;D

Thanks! :D

at everyones favorite gay club and you have nothing to wear

You make something, duh

I had planned on stenciling that. Of course in my plan I had time to cut out a stencil. Hello reality! So I ironed it on. Looks more hot vinyl iron on shirt of the 80's as is.

and I sewed up an evening gown...and a corset )

Looked in the mem's for anything about ceramics, finishes, and various other things that might have to do with this...but I didn't find anything. I could be retarded, so I apologize if I missed it- in which case please point me to it ^_^

Anyway.
I got a tea set from my friend for my birthday, and she had it custom painted for me- but I think they forgot to put some kind of finish over the paint because the paint keeps coming off! This makes for sad!

Is there some kind of glaze/finish/gloss (that doesn't require any sort of firing, just a paint on, let dry, and go type of thing) that I could use to seal the paint on?
