Just so everyone knows, in the link i gave earlier about the fabric swatches, you CAN order over and over again. I made 4 orders, one after the other, for ten different swatches each time and the orders went through. Can't wait to get mine. and thanks to whoever posted the link to www.distinctivefabric.com .

Sorry for the text only, just wanted to let everyone know that they can have LOTS of swatches.

Ok ladies and gents, a challenge has been placed before you. Check out this bag: coolest bag ever

Any ideas on how to copy this? I'm beginning to glimmer a few, but thought this would be a fun "group project."

Good luck!

A lady I work with asked me to help her think of something very unique to give or make for her new granddaughters baptism. We (I'm) quite crafty and can sew but I'm at a loss for ideas. Does anyone remember some very special gift you have given or received? We'd appreciate any ideas all you creative ladies can offer. Thanks in advance.

Does anybody remember a post (i think it was in this community) where someone painted a city skyline on the side of their converses? I really want to do that and I can't find the post. If you know about something similar that'd be great too. Thanks a bunches!

i can't seem to access the memories, so just read on.

:)

i bought a little scrap fabric last night that is really snakeskin-y. it's like something you'd use to make a giant frog or lizard that was popular a few years back...maybe you know what i'm talking about...?

anyway, i'm a new sewer, and i was curious if i should change my needle (this fabric is kind of slimy/satiny feeling) and i thought i remembered that different needles can be damaged/cause damage by/to the material you use, like corderoy or silk.

anyway. any thoughts?

and if you need a picture fix, see [livejournal.com profile] africanviolin for my two most recent [livejournal.com profile] monsterswap (my first projects for this comm.) projects.

So my overly-greedy gene is kicking in.

There have been a few posts about this website: http://www.smithandnoble.com
To those who missed the prior posts, you can click on their link for free swatches and they send you some! Easy as that, you dont even have to pay for shipping. (mmm freebie goodness)

So being the glutenous American that I am, i just ordered 451 in the same order. Technically you are only supposed to order 10!. haha. But as it turns out, if you click 'ok" to the window that pops up to tell you that you have that many and you are only allowed 10... it ads them all to your order anyway! (Someone is so getting fired when they find out how much money they are about to lose to the [info]craftgrrl kids in free samples.

So I would like to start a new post about what to do with said swatches?

I just ordered all of those of the same kind to make table runners for my wedding. So... what else is there?
*pillows
*blankets*
*duvet covers
*patches
*thank you notes?
*bags/purses

lemme have it... what else can we do with free window treatment swatches?

Does anyone know the poem that says "If you love beauty, then do not love me for there are those more beautiful than me"? And do you know where I could find it translated into German?

My brother needed to make a manta ray replica. There wasn't enough time for paper mache to dry, and the model needed to be big, so Sculpey-type clay wasn't an option. Instead, I helped him design and make a plushie version, who is now known as Mr. Ray.

More ray on the way... )

Here's two pouches I made a couple days ago. I really think pouches are neat and handy to have around.

I'm aware there's no selling crafts in this community, but what should I do about supplies?
I have too much stuff laying around and I'd like to get rid of a lot of it, is there a community where I can sell the stuff, or is selling craft supplies ok in here?

Alright...I hate that the memories section is down *cry* I have a simple question about the stress-relieving pillows...I think I've heard of filling them with rice...flax seed, etc. Does anyone know which is the best? Because I'm so broke, will rice work? Thanks!

It took me about two days and there was a lot of frustration and seam ripping. Here are some pictures og the purse.

Tonight was the 3rd annual arts festival at my highschool, and my Arts Academy Western Civilizatons class made a statue of the Egyptian god Khnum, who created people's bodies on his pottery wheel, and had the head of a ram. My friend and I were in charge of clothing and jewelry.

We made the cuffs out of records, the kilt and belt from muslin with beadwork and embroidery, and the ankh and belt buckle from fimo clay.

I just finished my boyfriend's Valentine's day gift. It's a hand bound scrap book that is messy and uneven and far from perfect... but he'll love it, and that's all that matters.

Love is like a bomb baby... )
I'd really like feedback from anyone who wants to give it!

Like last year, Nick and I decided we'd make our gifts this Valentines. We celebrated the holiday today (February 11th), since Valentine's is falling on a Monday, and we'll be stuck in classes and drained from the weekend's events.

Nick is finishing the Cherry Red painting mod on my computer, but since it wasn't done in time, he bought me 50 First Dates on DVD. :) And now, I get to reveal to all of you, what I got him!

My main gift was floor cushions! I got the idea after we had been playing video games and sitting on the floor, a tad bit uncomfortably. I figured it'd be nice for him to have some nice room decor, as well as a comfy place to lounge. I bought some non-stretchy fabric in colors that matched his beddings at Joann's. I only bought one yard of each, which was perfect for these pillows. I also bought some bags of a stiffer polyester fiber-fil than the brand I normally buy. This poly-fil was made by, I recall, Morning Glory. It's the kind in the green and clear bags.

I made two floor cushions -- a light blue one, with white fleece cut out into cloud shapes and machine-stitched on. The other was a dark blue one, with machine-stitched felt appliques of seaweed, a whale, and a school of fish. Sky and water! :)

I made sure to sew on the appliques first. Afterwards, I folded the yard of fabric in half, right sides together, and stitched around, just leaving a hole big enough for me to flip it back the correct way and stuff it with poly-fil. The project took a couple of hours, and I am definitely very happy with the results! :)

I also made him one Humphrey the Whale felt buddy and one Gaga the Lovebug felt buddy, because he wanted them. :)

Then we ate sushi; yay! Happy Valentines!

it's basically light blue walls, midnight blue carpet, and white furniture (ugly i know)

i'd love to make it look crazy and awesome but i just don't have the money...

is there any simple things i can do to make it better that wont cost me a fortune?

also i have a very tiny closet and am up for making more space for clothes/accessories...

thanks a lot everyone.

oh, here's a cute little emo craft for my amazing boyfriend for valentine's day.

syke!

it's a craft for ME, because boyfriends are lame and can sometimes give you the clap.

my boyfriend is building one of these on an island. he just bought the property, so he probably won't build for a year. i want to build him, inexpensively, a tiny one with a big stake through the bottom so that he can "plant" it on the property. its kind of a Congradulations on your Closing gift. Any ideas for materials, etc?
