Blankets for Truman Babies

There have been so many babies born, with more on the way, to the wives of men on the USS Harry S Truman (CVN-75), which is currently on a regularaly scheduled deployment in support on the war on terrorism.  We would like to donate a handmade baby blanket to each family in recognition of their courage in dealing with this difficult situation.  If you'd like to help, just crochet, knit, or sew a 30"x30" baby blanket, and write a brief note to the family.

we'd like to have them by April 1st.  email me at jessicarosefox@hotmail.com or leave a comment for more information.  and even if you aren't interested in helping could you help me spread the word.  around your campus, work, church, families.... anyone that you think would like to help.  I'd really appreciate it.  I'm getting worried that we aren't going to get enough blankets for all the families.

How would you proceed if you had to make a realistic sheep head?

There are those friends of mine who are preparing this theatre piece, and they asked me about a sheep head (well, a couple). The heads should be weared by actors so it's a sort of full hat thing or something. Thing is, paper or sort of are not a way I suppose, because my poor skills would not make it really realistic.

Please help this desperate nonsense girl.

Haha, I thought I would share this...

Feeling adventurous and outright CRAZZZY tonight I decided to try crocheting a circle... well, my attempt ended when I found myself with a hollow tube of stitches, just big enough for my finger to slip in.

I made a finger warmer!
Maybe you all wont find this as amusing as I do. It could be a lack of sleep induced delirium. Who knows!
I will post pictures when I get home (I work nights).

Thanks for letting me share this.

Looking for information on cleaning feathers. Also any information on repairing damaged feathers if that's possible. Also tips on securing feathers to jewelery such as earings and pendants..

Quick question-

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find quick drying, super absorbent microfiber?  I was going to buy a travel towel for my upcoming trip to Europe, but all the towels I've seen are right around $30 for a large, and I don't want to have to pay that much if at all possible.

Thanks in advance, and sorry I don't have any pics to share.

I made a quilt. The pattern is called "Trip Around the World" (I think someone on this board made a similar one for a baby not long ago). The fabrics are a Japanese theme with fish and cats. It is a baby-sized quilt so it didn't take too long to make (maybe 4 hours total?).

Several years ago i saw a website online where someone used paint strips (those testers you can get at Walmart or hardware stores where they sell paint) to create art, collages etc. They did different shapes, different patterns, etc, all made with hundreds of paint strips. Any idea what I'm talking about or where I could find examples of that?

I want to make a portfolio for my photographs.

What size photographs are the "norm" for portfolios and how are they usually mounted?

I'm thinking 5x7 but don't know if that's really big enough. I was thinking of making a custom size of 6x8 or 7x9, but... ?

I'm in love with felt right now and I made my first wrist cuff. Not perfect, but it was fun.

Fleece

I've been using American Apparel cotton California fleece for a project I've been working on, but the stuff is so damn expensive. I end up paying about 8$ a yard, and that's wholesale. I've looked around for other fleeces but can't seem to find any 100% cottons, most are blends and I hope to stay away from that. Another problem I'm facing is the websites; I'm really apprehensive about purchasing large amounts of product from a site that looks less than professional. I'm not knocking anyone's web design skills, it just makes me a lot more cautious as a consumer.

So I'm wondering--does anyone know where I can purchase EXTREMEMLY large amounts of fleece, online or from a wholesaler's warehouse or something ? If anyone can reccomend brands, that'd be great too. I can just contact the manufacturer directly. I'd appriciate any help :)

Can anybody recommend sites that have good recipes for making homemade beauty/body products and makeup (like lip gloss and such)?

Thanks =)

This is my first post with a picture, finally! Under the cut is a dress that I made for [livejournal.com profile] sarahrae and [livejournal.com profile] rudeboyzach's wedding next month. Their "colors" are brown and pink. Very chic, very cool, very them. Of course, the entertainment needed to match!

I looked in the memories but I didn't really see anything....
does anyone know if theres anything I could use to preserve already dried roses?
I dried a few I got after I was in the Vagina Monologues for charity a few weeks ago and it was my first theater thing EVER and I was so excited so they dried beautifully but now I'm afraid they are going to break and be ruined.... is there some sort of spray or something that i could dip them in that would maybe preserve them and make them a little more sturdy?

would resin work? I've never worked with it before so that makes me a little nervous.... but any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I want to make this shirt to a tube but I'm a beginner at [hand] sewing. What would be a good stitch to sew up the sides and how do I exactly cut the sleves off? I've tried it on a few shirts before but it doesn't come out right.

I just had a brilliant idea this afternoon, and now need more information on making a 3D mold, as well as working with rubber. I am interested in making a few sex toys, or dildos out of said rubber.

Does anyone know how I could go about getting this done?

I'm thinking of starting to make things like the Blik company does because they are so incredibly expensive, and it's so easy to make them for $1 or so.

If it works out well, I'd be more than happy to help you wonderful ladies and gents out if interested.
