I don't often post..but it seems like when I do, it's always something involving birds... I worked on another embroidered art piece this evening. I got this idea from a purse in a Japanese craft book so I can't take full credit.

I think I'm going to add a bit more to it...maybe some buttons in a bottom corner.. but not right now. Right now I must sleep.

I had an old sketchbook that hadn't been used in a couple of years, so I decided to give it new life as an idea/inspiration book for crafts (with many of the recent ideas, patterns, etc being added from here! Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl!) Obviously, a crafty book should not have a plain cover, so it was time to get out the collage box:

Updating super quickly so I can get to the bank before WW meeting. Here's the latest on the Fatty Blanket. Starting with next week's update, i'm going to have a page just for it and only update with the latest photo to keep the pic from getting any larger. Enjoy!

I got these in my email today, and figured I may as well share them with everyone!

i want to embroider something for my mom for mother's day, but i can't think of any good ideas. i have tons of cute patterns, but i'm not sure WHAT i should be embroidering! a tea towel? is that boring??

p.s. if any of you remember me asking about sewing classes, i decided to sign up for one and i love it so far. i'm going to make a skirt.

so, this may be a bit of a belated christmas present post, but considering i didn't actually complete this until earlier this month, i guess it's not too terribly out of place. i'm terrible with getting christmas presents done on time.

anyway. i wanted to make my boy something unique, and i came up with this little guy.

who could it be? )

I just finished these items for my website and I thought I'd share. I hope this is short enough that I don't have to put it in a cut.. it seems silly for one extra image.

Thanks so much for all the positive feedback on my necklace... It's exam time for me, which of course means that I am busier than ever finding procrastination projects. lol. Here are the cards and bandanas I am working on for my gumboot dance troupe leaders. (Gumboot is a dance that originated in the mines of South Africa during apartheid) We wear bandanas when we perform so I got a lot of practice doing rolled hems and sewed up a bunch and stenciled africa (where gumbbot started), Vancouver Island (where we live), and the stickman gumboot dancer from our t-shirts. Hope you like!

Can anyone direct me to a good "float mount" tutorial? Or perhaps tell me how it's done.

Let me clear this up. A float mount is a technique you use to mount drawings and paintings with deckle edges, usually paper that is hand-made. Deckle edges are edges that are frayed or uneven due to the making process. It is an aesthetic choice to float mount a drawing.

Thanks in advance!

It's my best friend's birthday tomorrow, and my fellow carpooler and I have decided to show up early to paint his car windows. (I'm pretty sure we've all seen this done...)

Now, we have Tempura (Tempera?) paint, the kiddy washable stuff... but it's going to be on there all day in the hot Texas sun. Anyone ever paint anyone's windows with this? Will it tinge the back windows? (He drives an explorer with tinted windows, FYI)

Will this work and not damage the car, or should we use shoe polish? (I'm a first time window graffitiist! Help!)

Hola, crafty chicas and chicos! I don't suppose that any of y'all could point me towards some really good online resources for semi-precious and precious beads? (Besides auction-y places like E-Bay -- I'm looking for some non-auction options). Best selection recs? Prettiest bead recs? Best prices recs (these would be the recs that would possibly do me the most good :) )?

Thanks!

Alright. I've ruined about 5 yards of netting already, and two metres of elastic, so I think it's time to ask for help.
How how how how HOW would I go about making really really poofy petticoat/crinolines
(ie:Image hosted by Photobucket.com or Image hosted by Photobucket.com)
all I know is that you need a heck of a lot of netting.
All my pervious attempts came out a lot more tubular than poofy.
Help?

My friend [livejournal.com profile] mccausland, who is a wonderful artist and crafter, made me these obidome to wear with my kimono! I just couldn't stand it and had to post them all over the place. They're just gorgeous! Each one is a silk flower with beading.
Have a look. )

i don't know about anyone else here, but i get extremely excited by cute little embroidered things on clothing. however, i do NOT get excited about the prices at urban outfitters for said items. therefore, the other weekend i visited my mom for easter and while searching through her crafty stuff for likely projects, it occurred to me that she has an AMAZING booklet of all the embroidery thread she has collected over the years. thus, my friends, i took it upon myself to create my own cute little embroidered item. onward!

Okay, sorry for the rushed entry earlier. I didn't give the details...
Week 1: 26 squares
Week 2: 10 squares
Week 3: 34 squares
Week 4: 30 squares
Week 5: 12 squares

For those who asked, each square is 1/10 of a pound so if I only lose a little bit of weight I'll still feel like I accomplished something. These are weights at the end of each weigh-in week, so the 1st is my results from the 1st week on the program, etc. This week will be the end of Week 6 so stay tuned!

Working on a new thingy, but I'm going to save the photos and real info til I finish just in case I screw it up and throw it across the room.
Okay, other question...see these kittens?
Bartles and Loki
I'm bottle feeding them and want to show them off so I can get them adopted out as soon as they're weaned. Anyone know of a good way to make little photo charms out of bottlecaps? I figure I'll glue the photos at the bottom, but haven't figured out how to cover them to make them look nice. Help?
Oh, and for more goodness on the babies, see [livejournal.com profile] pitterpat, my other LJ.

So, today being a half day, and me being in a crafty mood, and my best friend needing a skinny wallet for her tiny purse, I whipped this up:

The past few days I've spent my nights hand-sewing silk to make flowers, and attatching them to fabric for pillows. It's soothing, and sure passes time when I'm bored.  This one is my favorite so far, most of the flowers are blue shades atop an orange quilted silk. I  have three pillows done and I think I'll make at least a couple more...when they're finished I'll arrange them all on my bed.

If only you could see these colors of silk live, most of the ones I'm using are iridescent dupioni. The colors are beyond beautiful.

Last night I made these three こけし (kokeshi), traditional Japanese wooden dolls:

kokeshi

I based them on some vintage kokeshi I have--the expressions on some of the old dolls are so sweet and funny!! :)

i made a new bracelet, its the same as my other charm bracelet but in pink.

**Note:** for some odd reason, my camera made some of the crystals appear orange but they're actually pink :P i posted a pic of the real color of the ones that appear to be orange.

I finally had a day off work so I could be crafty. :) It's really basic, has no pockets or anything but I am happy with it. It also only took an hour and a half, that is super fast for me. Anyway, onto the pictures.
