I'm trying to get into jewelry making, but there's a particular style that I'm most interested in making that I can find little to NO information on at all.

I've done some beaded pieces, but mostly I want to use crystal and chain. I've tried searching for it, but I keep getting results dealing with chainmail. Nono, just regular chain. This is the style that I want to work with; can anybody tell me exactly what I would need to create something like this? For instance, the piece that the crystals are all set in. Help would be much appreciated! :D

[edit: Still need help! Please look!] So, thanks to the comments so far, I've figured out that, basically, what I want to do would be glorified chandelier earrings. I've looked at some tutorials and realized that it's pretty much the same thing, but on a larger scale, in the form of necklaces, headpieces, whathaveyou. Primarily pieces using chainmail, wire, chain and crystals. What I need help with now is how to go about using filigree components like this. Exactly how would you go about attaching crystals to something like that? I mean in the center of the piece, not dangling down.

Three of my very closest friends are hardcore Harry Potter fans. I've decided that for Christmas, I am going to make them all Slytherin scarves. I figure I'd buy some green and silver yarn and whip them up, along with an iron-on Slytherin house patch. Here is where we hit a problem. Ebay hasn't been a lot of help, the patches don't look high quality. I just want three nice looking patches that will fit on a ribbed (i think) scarf. I also don't want to pay an absolute fortune. Opinions?

To keep this from being text only, here are pictures from my very first scarf.
Or not. Photobucket isn't working. I'll edit the post to include it when it's not being so troublesome.

I am crafty. I bet that most of you are in that same boat (being that this is craftgrrl and all...)

Do you ever feel guilty purchasing an item that you could technically make yourself? Like say you are in a home fashions store and you find a cute pillow.... but it's something that you could make yourself if you had the time/money/drive. So would you buy it?

I find that especially with paintings or art in general I am TERRIBLE at buying anything because I know I could paint something similar myself and it would seem like a waste of money or a waste of my talent or SOMETHING to buy it. But then that happens with 40 things and then I don't have time to do ANY of the projects, I get nothing done, and my walls are still bare.

Is that silly or what?

I LOVE to support the crafting community so I have no issues with buying softies or jewellery or art from fellow crafters, but I guess it's more of an issue with mass produced store bought things.

I guess my question is "Does your crafting/creating ability hinder your decorating/purchasing activities?"

ETA: If you DO duplicate an item yourself is that considered copying? or "inspiration?"

Does anyone know how to make a record bowl purse? They were all really cute, but I have no idea how you would sew through a record.

I have a question. I couldn't find the answer in FAQ for my question. How do you make art card? Any link would be fine. I'm making lot of different crafts for my parents. They had done lot of wonderful things for me and my family. So for their thank in return, I'm making mosaic step for their stairs, probably 12 steps! Also my parents adopted my four years old niece, I want to make things for her as well. I had already made her HELLO KITTY paperweight clay figure and Elmo for my son. He broke them in half but I already decided what to do with ELMO. I'm planning to put ELMO in picture box along with my son's first clothes from hospital to home.

children's hat

I just finished this tonight.

It's knitted on two needles for the bottom, then 4 needles for the top. I love knitting with 4 needles cause it means no sewing!

Sorry, text only this time.
My question is: how would I go about lining a scarf? I just finished this stripey scarf, but it's not very soft, so I'd like to line it with some silk-ish material. Would I have to hand stitch all of it or could I just machine sew it? Any useful links would be great too.
Thanks in advance

I just read the book The Lady with the Alligator Purse to my kindergarten class today and I I was thinking that it would be adorable to make an plush or felt purse shaped like a cartoonish alligator. I don't make purses at all so I'm not even going to attempt that, but I'd love to see someone else's alligator purse creation!
