I've never made men's jewelry before. Here's my first attempt at beading something for a guy. It was also my first attempt at tubular peyote stitch. I made it for my best friend and I didn't measure his wrist, so I'm afraid it's too big and I'm also afraid he won't like it.
I made my first batch of Lip Balm on wednesday, It's very useable but i want my recipe to be a bit more firm and more sweeter, I only put one teaspoon of raw honey in it so I guess that doesn't cut it, so I think I"ll make another batch today altering the recipe some... I seriously am getting obsessed and researching out the yin-yang for everything Lip Balm related on the internet, i've gone through craftgrrl on livejournal, lots of craftster.org forum threads and lots of random google searches for lip balm, the information is kind of confusing, there are lots of ways to do it ..
And well I have a few questions for those of you out there who are in knowledge with Lip Balm.
Do you have any good recipes?...the only ingredients I"m using right now are [ Sunflower Oil / Shea Butter / Soy Wax / Raw Honey / & a Flavor Oil ] I couldn't find any 100% natural cocoa butter anywhere around these parts [ i got the shea butter @ whole foods for WAY too much] but I was trying to avoid ordering online for the time being because I want to try out the recipes now!
I get confused about the oils and butters: how many of each MINIMUM do you need to make a lip balm. how many can you put into one lip balm and still get lip balm? how much of each part should you put in to make it lip balm? do some oils and butters work better together than others? Which ones do you recommend? Which is better for your lips soy or bees wax? Are there other kinds of wax or substitutes [ i'm looking for all natural though ]? Are there all natural colorants out there, and where to get those and how much to use? How do you do test runs for your lip balms so you don't use up all your containers on batches you don't particularly like? What can I use to make the lip balm last longer? How do I make the lip balm more firm? What to add to the mix to make it sweet and how much is recommend for basic sweetness or EXTRA sweetness? What can I add for medicated uses, or what can I add for uv protection?
Yeah that is a long list of questions I have on the subject, I want to make something all natural, firm, & sweet. So I gotta research, research, research, to make the besttttt stuff!
I want to make a simple knitted hat for a guy. I have looked at countless patterns, and can't find anything simple enough. I only know how to knit an purl, I can do combinations, but I cant do cables. I just want an easy, knitted, probably chunky winter hat. Can someone write out some easy instructions? Or a link? I have checked all the links in the memories and can't find one simple enough. Do I need to use DPNs? I have never done anything round before, only flat scarves. Thanks.
I have a knitting question - forgive me if this has been answered, I looked through the archives and had no such luck.
I'm making a hat, which I've made before but this is my first time on circular needles. They were a great size for the main of the hat, but now that I've started decreasing, I have to really stretch the stitches to even get them around the needles! Does that make sense? Is there a way to deal with this? I don't want my hat to get all bent out of shape :x
I'm afraid that my needles are simply too -long-, but I really don't want to start over. Should I just buy a smaller pair and transfer them over?
I am attempting to make a construction barrel costume for Halloween but I am having difficulties finding reflective fabric for the stripes. Does anyone know where to find reasonable quantites of reflective fabric or have any suggestions of an alternative? All I'm finding is huge bolts of 100 yardsish with limited consumer availability. The costume is being modeled after this type of barrel.
So the moment I fixed my sewing machine, another thing fucks up. Sighzorz. Anyways, when I just do a normal stitch, it'll like skip a few stitches, &then stitch some, skip some, stitch some. &It's not like I'm making the stitch setting really big (erm, making the stitches really wide?), so i don't know what goes on. Here is my lame attempt at drawing it out:
__________ _ _ _ _ ____ _ _______ _ _ _ _______ _ _ ____________ _ _ _ _ _______________________ _ _ etc, etc. Really random, really weird. &The bottom thread is all funky. Yes, I checked the bobbin, re did it, put it in several times. No bueno. Like, the needle will go in, but the there won't be a stich, except occasionally? Does that make sense? Do I just need a tune up?
i love penguins so, for halloween this year i'm going as a penguin, but the costume is taking a while and since i am an instant gratification sort of girl, i decided to use some of my scraps to make a baby to carry with me, which only took about 15 mintues.
this is the first time i've ever made a stuffed something, so he's kind of..akward.. but i think he's adorable
