greetings...I have a few craft..related questions.
I'm trying to start a crafting club at my college. I need to have ideas before I go to the office and make a proposal of sorts. So far my ideas are...

*have a 'free box' which has crafting supplies that group members can take and are welcome to add to

*members can bring their own supplies, work on whatever they want to and have a comfy environment with other crafty people

*every week or every X amount of weeks there will be a demo, myself or someone else in the group, showing how to do a certain craft or an added skill to a craft they already know....sharing craft education

*creating pieces for projects or organizations (i.e. - making knit/crochet blocks to be sewn together into afghans for the Warm America project, knit scarves for needy children, etc)

*make pieces and sell them at different venues to earn money - money will be donations to groups (such as groups working to get art programs in elementary schools)

What I'm interested in is other ideas that I can have the group do. Does anyone know of any organizations ...arty groups...places that would like donated blankets, scarves, hats, etc (all handmade) or groups such as ones trying to get elementary art classes?
I'm looking for all kinds of suggestions, including crafts that can be done as a group but aren't too pricey or too...young...
Thanks!

Hello all! Its my first time posting here, just joined yesterday. You all are extremely creative people - so far this is the most active community I've ever joined - SO many posts every day! And it really gets my creative wheels turning, seeing the things you all do. Keep up the great work!

As for me, well, I'm 22 years old, and have been crafting ever since I was a kid. My grandmother used to sit with me and show me how to collage bits of fabric onto paper, and later, how to do plastic canvas ornaments and such. From there, I taught myself how to make all sorts of beaded jewelry, and my biggest thing for a long while was making Dreamcatchers. They were/are so much fun to make! And now, I just try to do whatever comes to mind, or whatever I'm inspired to do, by things I see. I enjoy making crafty things for friends and family, and quite often will opt for those things instead of buying presents at holidays and such. ^_^

Here are some of the things I've been up to lately! )

I've got tons of new projects in mind, and will post those as they come up! :)

Red Tie Dress

So I was commissioned to make a dress completely out of ties. I bought 200 off of Ebay, and had enough then to sort them by color.

Who is it that makes the beautiful, unique handmade tiaras? It was someone in this community and she twisted wire and beaded them. They were very elegant and fairy-like but they were also funky. She made custom ones too. She used to post her pics but I can't find them anywhere on here. I would like to start looking for one for my wedding. Thanks.

I have so many freshwater pearls, it isn't even funny. does anyone have any good ideas as to how to go about using them. I made this necklace a while back and made some bracelets for my sisters using the white and black pearls, and it seemed to be a hit, but I'd like some new ideas. anyone have any suggestions? OR does anyone know of a good way to go about selling them? I've never sold anything I've made, so how do you all even come up with a price?

hey. I'm new to this community, joined this morning. I'm a college student with not as much free time as she'd like and lots of ideas and ambition.

anyways, I was thinking about something last night. Over the summer, I bought some pokemon fabric that one of my friends liked, and I was thinking about using it to make him something. I have about three yards, and I was wondering if any of you knew of some good ideas of things to make? I thoguht boxers, but I wouldn't be exactly sure what size to make. I've also thought about making some kind of interesting pillow. but if any of you have other ideas, I'd love to hear them.
:)

Random idea (almost circular skirt but asymmetrical via placing the waist opening to the side of the ellipse), random piece of fabric (52x45" of black cotton I found whilst cleaning), and this is the result. Hey, for once one of my random ideas pretty much turned out as planned!

But it needs something else. I can't decide what. Random bleaching? Cool stencilling or screenprinting? Lace or ruffles along the hem (approx 4 yards, yikes? D-ring tape? Some sort of mesh overlay - dyed cheesecloth, chiffon, lace, fishnet?

Crappy pictures with dying batteries )

You can't even tell I'm wearing red tights under the lace ones, psssh. But hopefully you get the idea.

I am going to copy this right out of [livejournal.com profile] hammercock's journal and double the squee.

Squee! Squee!

Free graph paper generators! You can specify the size and number of boxes and lines! You can make asymmetrical graph paper! You can make hexagonal, triangular, trapezoidal, and dot graph paper! You can make lined writing paper, musical notation paper, and Celtic knot design paper! How cool is that? Squee!

i don't know why it took me forever to figure this out, but stenciling a picture that needs bridges is sooo much easier if you put the bridges on the picture before printing it out onto freezer paper!! if that makes any sense. i don't have the good fortune to own adobe photoshop or anything cool like that for that matter, so i always open my pictures up on regular old paint and kinda stretch/skew the picture from there to get the size that i want. i've tried 3 times already to cut out hagrid in an acceptable fashion before finally realizing today that i could just erase bits of lines to make it easier for me to see when i start cutting him out!
sorries for the text only post, but just wanted to share this little tid bit with anyone else who might be a little slow like me :p
will post pictures later tonight of finished potter shirt with quotes and all!! (so excited! i'm such a nerd..)

Kitty Bag

Hi All, I think this may be my first post here? Can't remember. Anyway... I wanted to share this bag I made.

Kitty Bag, originally uploaded by superminx.

a 'bowling' bag I made - for a very skinny bowling ball :-) - with a hand appliqued, embroidered, beaded and quilted piece I made. The front is actually covered in clear vinyl to protect my handy work :-) I made the pattern from scratch and was pretty excited that it all fit together so nicely. The front and back are piped (thanks Oma for all those years helping you make piped cushions), it has a zip in the top and on the front side is a pocket just the right size to fit a mobile phone. I haven't lined it yet - that's my next job, but I'm so happy to have got this far being that I'm one of those people that rarely finishes anything.

Oh... and it's actually a perfect size for Blythe.

So I posted about a month ago about these duct tape roses and the speech I was going to give for a college speech class, the original post here. and about two weeks ago I did it and waited until I got the grade to post a follow up.

when I gave the speech they were amazed. seriously, jaws open and everything.

which yay, cause I spent a lot of time making these and all. and stressing over it!

as soon as I pulled out the bouquet of flowers I heard "ooo"s and "aww"s. then when I started pulling out the barrettes and the pen everyone was like "whoa!" even more and then when I pulled out the little wrapped box everyone was making all this noise and I just laughed cause I didn't know what to do.

so here, pictures of the finished flowers )

I was surprised at their reactions, I really was. but the best part: she actually said that in her 15 years of teaching this course she had never seen such a reaction from an audience ever. ever!

so my final grade was a 90% :D good considering I went way overtime and got marks off for not making eye contact with people, and she says my voice had too much "sing-song" yeah whatever, she's the kind that doesn't give anyone very high marks.

I do belive I need to buy myself a present lol

:) just wanted to share. thanks for all the support and help in the beginning

Ok, so I just joined this community a little while ago.
I make lots and lots of things, actually. Skirts, purses, picture collages, digital editing, jewelery, I stencil. I hemp and I sew and I crochet a little. But here is a skirt and shirt combo! )
sorry, this was crossposted.

OK, I know, all text entry = bad Jubilee. My digital camera is still being funky, but I have a question for you all. I'm working on a project for my creativity class and I need to find a way to attach magnetic poetry to a t-shirt or bag in a way that it can still be re-arranged. No rush and all ideas will be considered. Let me know what you all think!

hey craftgrrls!
i am trying to find out the ratio for the most popular-selling initials. (mom wants to make scarves that are embroidered with initials).
i've googled my heart out with monogram and initials and "most common" and i can't for the life of me find a simple list of most common initials. i know there's charts for most often used letters in general, and such, but i'm looking for names. am i stuck with looking at baby names from 20 years ago and tabulating the results myself? anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance!
