yay for learning how to do cables :) i just finished these irish hiking wrist warmers last week, but i'm finally get pictures up tonight
the pattern was amazingly easy, and i'd recommend it for anyone who wants to learn cables!
http://wineandneedles.blogspot.com/2004/12/wrist-warmer-pattern.html

i accidently made it a little shorter by forgetting to do one more repeat, but it still fits so i love it! this was my first time working with non-acrylic yarn also (baby aplaca) so it's very comfy!

I just learned to "real" knit, and I can't do "fancy" things yet- just k/p.... so the kk makes me really happy, cause I can do things like this!

I am so confused. I'm making a quilt. But not exactly the... normal way. I'm taking a king sized sheet and appliqueing pictures onto it. Here's my issue. You know how some quilts have like.... designs on the back? Like with the stitching? God, I wish I knew what i was talking about. Anyway, so once i finish the front and back sides of the quilt, when I sew them together w/ the batting to do this stitching mess, do I do it through both layers? I only have 5 days to do this, so having someone else do it or sending it off somewhere isn't an option and I don't have the money to buy a bunch of feet and crap. I just want to know if i sew the two pieces together, then do the stitching through both. And if you guys have any recommendations of simple designs, or pictures of patterns or something, could you link me?

reference to what I'm talking about (hope you don't mind, j9crafts!)

See how you can see the stitcking on the back side on the front, too? That's what I'm talking about. Speaking of.... J9crafts, if you see this, how the heck did you do that?

I'm either going to do it the above way mentioned, or just get a blanket from the thrift store and sew it to the appliqued thing on all four sides, leaving enough room to turn it inside out and stitch closed. I like the idea of doing the first thing i talked about better, though. I think it will be more... quilty? I don't know.

I quit.

Freshwater pearls, silver or silver plate beads (I can't remember which!) and a pink cameo with angels.
I think I'd like to get more supplies and make a version for myself with a black and ivory profile cameo.

Hi - First time poster here.  I made bracelets for all my co-workers as Christmas gifts, and actually remembered to take pictures before I gave them away.  I made a few key-chains for the guys, but they ended up taking bracelets for their wives/girlfriends instead.  Pics behind the cut...

I've been looking and looking for something inexpensive but cool to get for my friend who lives in Florida. Yesterday, while shopping for Christmas presents, I managed to get a "God Bless Bloc Party" shopping bag at a record store that I went to. I decided to just use that for her present instead of spending yet another $15 dollars on something she'd probably like for 6 days and then forget she had it. She loves Bloc Party, of course.

Thing is, of COURSE I'm not giving her a plastic bag for Christmas, that would make me Worst Friend Of The Year. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could reconstruct it, so it would be something she would like and use? Ideas for (reconstructed) bags would probably be the best, although I'm open to anything.

(excuse my ugly clothes, I haven't bothered getting dressed yet)

Use a router and cut out the center of a chunk of 2x4 sand it down a bit, pound in some nails at regular intervals. -- or now that you get the idea, make one up yourself. :-) the handles/blank space on each side are nice, considering you''ll be carrying around a board with nails in it. :-) It also helps you balance it across you knees, so the knitting hangs freely through the center.

Which you use like this only bigger and using finishing nails so you can slip the yarn off more easily. The narrow shape means you can do things in the round without having big round things to store -- and its adjustable in the way that the commercially available easy-knitters aren't.

(on another note IMHO the knifty knitter posts are getting a little extreme -- I know its easy, exciting, and equals love, but there's like 8000 posts a day with the same hat/scarf thing. I'm not a mod and don't want to inhibit folks from feeling creative, and sharing what they made but maybe a knifty knitter community might be in order?)

from jill bliss:

hello everyone i know!

my research for an upcoming article about Gocco for make magazine coincided with riso corp's announcement last week that they're discontinuing the "print gocco" system.

the gocco system, for those of you who don't know, cleverly combines the basic priciples of screenprinting and rubber-stamping, enabling anyone to easily produce multiple color images. it's the awesomest li'l gadget ever for artists and designers and will be sorely missed if it does indeed go "out of print."

while riso's decision appears to be final, maybe, with our help, gocco can find a new home with a manufacturer outside japan.

to that end, i'm refashioning the forthcoming magazine article, and ed and i have quickly put together a website for the evolving "save gocco" grassroots campaign.

please visit savegocco.com for more information and ideas, and help save gocco!

thanks for your help!
jill

I'm going to be moving out next year and have to get rid of a lot of stuff, including tons of stuffed animals. They're too dusty and old to give away to charity, so is there anything crafty I can do with them? Salvage any parts? Would the stuffing be safe to reuse? Any ideas? Thanks :)

step1: grab a pair of old shoes that your mom wants to horribly throw away.
step2: get scissors, favorite fabric, and a hot glue gun.
step3: cut, glue, and work for a couple fours.

final result? brand new (somewhat) spankin' shoes.

You may remember me asking about what good recycled craft ideas you all had way back in the spring. Our Roots + Shoots club's sale at the school is now in full force and doing very well.

That's a Kurt Halsey drawing I copied/stencilled/silkscreened about a year ago... I didn't make the bag.
It says, "Every bit of ink a reminder of you."

I STILL haven't figured out how to do an lj-cut properly, so this is all I'm posting for now. :(

This is my first post since joining this community. I'm an aspiring artist/novice carfter.

What I'm posting isn't too technical, but I felt like sharing. These are a few hand painted bookmarks I made for various relatives as gifts for X-mas.

I have alot more crafts- hand painted boxes, cosplay hair stuff, etc at my Getcrafty.com account. And I have some of my artwork up at my Deviantart Gallery.

hello my fellow crafty peeps!

i've had this one black purse with creme embroidery for like 5 years now, and i loved it because it went with just about everything. a pen bled all over one part of it and colored the embroidery so that it looks like some of the embroidery is missing, and then in my latest car accident i got coffee all over it. and so i threw it away in disgust that i get in so many car accidents. that purse was just 2 rectangles & lining sewn together, and i am all about making my own embroidery stuff right now, so i've decided to make my own purse.

i was at the post office and found the free envelopes of that lovely indestructible tyveck stuff. i was thinking of using this as a stabilizer for my purse-to-be, because i tend to use things till they fall apart on me. i remember people going crazy for the stuff in here a while ago, but it isn't in the memories and either i'm spelling it wrong or the [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl googling isn't finding it. does anyone have any experience/ideas/words of wisdom for me as i go to use this stuff in sewing?

and naturally, so that this isn't just text, here's yet another patch i've made. i've been fiddling with the different fill patterns to see what kinds of effects i can get. and i'm getting better at color choices compared to my first round of patches.

see the new patch fills, they're pretty! )

I'm so exhausted, you wanna know why? here's why!

introducing, R. Matey the pirate squid!!!!! )

He is truly one of the coolest things I've ever made. He's all crochet and there is no pattern, I made it up on the go and really don't feel like trying to remember it. He's 14" long and took over 5 hrs to make. So now I'm exhausted and have to do the work I ignored all day to crochet before I go to bed. aaaahh!

anyhoo, just thought I'd share!

I have been looking around for a big white ostrich feather but so far have had no luck.

This summer I bought a musketeer hat at the rennaisance faire, and silly me, I did not buy a feather to go with it. The hat lady showed me hers: just a feather with some bric-a-brac wrapped and glued around a safety pin at the pointed end. I thought, I can do that! No problem! And I really think I could, if I could just find a feather!

Any craft stores to suggest or online stores to recommend? Otherwise, next year I'll just be buying one. :P

I've made some earrings in the last little bit... any idea how much to sell for? I don't want to over price or under price. Plus, I suppose if I am to ship out of the area I would need the buyer to pay for that too.

What would you pay for any of the following?
+3 )
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Thanks for the input guys! Muchly appreciated. Now to get them all setup and priced etc. Going to figure out shipping tomorrow.
