Just out of curiosity, what are your favorite body scrubs to make?

I've only made one so far -- Coffee Body Scrub. I took regular coffee grinds, Epson salts and mixed in a bit of olive oil. I used it over the summer to keep my feet in top shape and it was great! It's definitely too rough for the face (even though I've used it on my face when out of facial scrub because I'm a trooper), but works great all over the body. Since I'm just about out of my coffee scrub (I'll probably use up the rest tomorrow), I think I might refill my jar with an Orange Spice Brown Sugar Scrub by taking brown sugar, olive oil and mixing in a bit of orange spice essential oil. Sounds delicious! I'll update on the exact recipe when it's made and I'll have a picture, as well. If the scrubs turn out well (I'm also going to try a cocoa sugar scrub), I might sent some jars to friends for Christmas. :D So do share your scrub creations! I'd love to see your variations!

i want to make a coat like this, i want something genuinly warm and long. my question is: instead of down filled (like this coat) what else could i use to keep warm, polar fleece? batting even? i've never made a coat, so this is new to me. has anybody made a similar long coat and can suggest a good pattern to look for? lastly, i haven't decided what fabrics to use in making this (whenever i DO make this), what fabrics are good for withstanding wind? i don't want to use vinyl, nor denim. will the lack of windproofing not be an issue with a good filler? what would you use to make this?

many thanks in advance!

i didn't mean for this thread to become just about the weather. i live between san fran and sac, and it has been cold lately. i get cold if the tempurature is under 80 degrees, and lately at night we've been in the high 30s. so to me, that is much too cold. all i want to do is be warm.

alright, i need a little bit of help from you guys. i memories-ed and everything, but to no real avail.

my mother is kind of hard to get things for for any holiday, so i'm going to i think paint on a coffee cup or etch on a glass cup for her and put a statbucks card in or something.

question is:
how/it is possible to get paint to stay on a coffee cup (i want to buy a plain colored one from tjmaxx or something)? would there just be a primer or something at a craft store?
also, i realize that this is kinda already in the memories, but what is the best kind of etching kit? i don't want to spend tons of money so if it's too expensive i'll pass, but i don't want a cheap crappy one either.

thanks guys! any help would be fantastic!

and so it's not text only... )

Is there any way of adding earflaps to my knifty knitted hats? I thought of maybe knitting up some on regular straight needles, and blanket stitching them on, but I bet someone has a better idea.

It's been so long since I posted a creation. A friend of mine had been keeping her iPod in a sock, so I volunteered to make her a case. She picked out the yarn and I made this little cutie. With room for the iPod Trip, the flap closes over the top and under the strap on the front (which has a small silver seashell bead). Braided handle (which I'm not a huge fan of, so I might change that on future cases). I plan on making a ton more because several people are getting iPods for Christmas. Oh what fun :)

(I hope this is an okay question to post!) In light of the possible retirement of Gocco, does anybody know where I could even get one? I tried googling for online sellers, but nothing came up.

i don't know if anyone here can help me with this, but it's worth a try.. i'm making a "peacock dress" for prom, which i'm sure is going to be a long and tedious process. i want it short in the front, with a long train of peacock feathers in the back. it looks awesome in my head, but the only thing i'm worried about is actually sewing the "stems" of the peacock feathers onto the fabric. by any chance, does anyone have any experience sewing feathers? any suggestions?

so it's not text only, my homecoming dress i made completely out of ties! )

so how do they work exactly? what do you do? i saw one when i was at michael's the other day, and it was not what i expected.

*everybody* seems to be talking about them lately. and i don't just mean in this community. i heard multiple people in michael's talking about it while i was there. like, at least 2-3 separate conversations about the thing. so i'm curious! it looks a bit like a really big 'spool knitter' (does anybody remember those?) - is that what it's like? do i need to get one? is it much faster than just plain old knitting? or is it just for people who don't knit?

I painted these ornaments today and I love all of them except the reindeer. I think it's because there's too much background and not enough of his face. Maybe it's because I chose orange for the background. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure he's getting sanded off and repainted. It's just bits of wood painted with acrylics.

ello there! i've been lurking 'round here a while now....my digital camera broke 6 months ago :P  but i borrowed a friend's ancient camera! murky pics, anyone? well anyway, i've got a lot of inspiration looking at other people's jewelry here, so i wanted to share- here you go!

Dusty Approved Honey Vanilla Dog Biscuits

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Gingerbread Men, Gingerbread Gals, Planes and Trains

3/4 c flour
1 egg
1 Tbsp honey
1/4 c. vegetable shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. rolled oats
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Heat honey in the microwave for 20 seconds. Mix all ingredients together and form into a ball. Flour your surface and roll dough out (it helps to put a sheet of cling wrap over the dough while rolling out). With cookie cutters (I used small, festive Williams-Sonoma cookie cutters), cut dough shapes out and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake in an oven preheated to 350º for about 8 to 10 minutes. This recipe makes about 40 to 45 dog biscuits.

I had five dogs to make treats for this Christmas so I sort them equally into plastic bags and wrote their names on them in Sharpie. My Dusty's already gotten a sneak peek at his present as he was the treat tester. I'd say I did well as he followed me around each time a batch was done.

Jumping on the Knifty Kniffer Wagon...

My first attempt-- I made a red hat for a good friend of mine's son. He loves red and he loves cars...hopefully, he'll love this hat.

Close up of buttons!

I'm learning to knit "for real"-- right now I'm knitting a scarf just doing the basic knit stitch. I haven't even tried to learn to purl, yet. But, I'm using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick...based on the recommendation of someone in here on someone else's post. I was having a lot of trouble teaching myself, until I got some bigger needles and thicker yarn.

I will post pics when I'm done with my scarf...I think I will make a hat on the Knifty Knitter to match.
