This is example of our reconstruction of ancient technologies. It is a leather flask it is made on technology Cuir Bouli: processing of leather by wax for giving to it the raised hardness and to make it waterproof.

Materials: a leather, a string, wax beer, glue natural, the neck is made of the cow horn, a cork from a bark of a cork oak.

I was so excited for spring that I actually got off my rear and started making some skirts from the fabrics I've been hoarding. I was very excited by JKaz's Shirred Pepper & Irish shirts and promptly followed Mickncrispy's Shirring Tutorial to get the waistband. This was perfect, as I'm a new seamstress. *grin*

if this isn't appropriate, feel free to delete! ^^

i went to a BIG and organized thrift store here today for the first time and got very lucky in the crafting section.

+2 images: yarn and embroidery thread! )

a big plastic bag of yarn for $1.98; and i love love love the olive green color in the small ball. for those that buy yarn, you know this is a good deal, since 1 skein of cheapo acrylic yarn can already cost $2-3. also for $0.99 i got a bag with embroidery thread and tassles; embroidery thread at my craft store goes on sale for $0.25 a color but not always, so this was a nice, cheap find.

so also a question - could anyone recommend some embroidery books for me? i think 'sublime stitching' has a book out & was wondering if anyone has a copy & what they think of it. i'd love to learn how to embroider! (and also cross-stitch!)

Hi, I'm a new poster to this community, and I'm planning on posting the cell phone cozy I'm making once it's done. My current question is: should I insert a piece of cardboard or other hard material inside the fabric to make it stiffer? Or should vinyl be strong enough to be a decent case? I apologize about the text-only. Pictures will follow with the completed project :)

ALSO!
has anybody used precious metal clay? ( http://www.silver-clay.com/ )
how is it? is it worth spending 130 bucks for a kit of it?? (with the burner thing and acessories all inculded) I have a bunch of loose gemstones that are too small for a necklace and I want to make rings out of them (with the precious metal clay) would that be ok? It said it fired at a low temperature so it won't damage stones, but I'm not sure how I would go about actually sticking the stones in there so they stay

I need some help! I've made a HP type scarf and want to put a patch on it. Far as I can tell, it's one of those iron on ones, however, it came without instructions. And I can't seem to get it to go onto the scarf. This is where I could use your input. How do I get the patch onto the scarf? Once it's on there I will try to sew it on to make sure it won't come off again, but right now the patch is too tough for me to get a needle through. Thanks!

So I bought his pair of pleather pants.I found they were a size too big and the store I bought them at went out of business. I tried to pawn them off on friends but all my friends already have pleather pants . So now I figured I can make something out of them. but what?

I decided to make some doll wigs, using yarn!
Image hosting by Photobucket

They came out WILD. HUGE and WHITE and CURLY! Just the way I wanted them! (I made the dress she's wearing, but it's not finished yet, so pictures of that later!) I sewed the yarn onto some fabric that was fitted with an elastic cap to stick on well. I ended up making two, and am working on one that I dyed brown, and will have dreadlocks! Another picture under the cut (doll boobs, beware!)!

I'd like to make some ribbon flowers to put on a skirt. Does anyone know of some good tutorials or directions? I'd also consider fabric-based designs, but I'd like them to be fairly simple and come out somewhat three-dimensional, and symmetrical. I made some neat little flowers out of yarn (which I would post, but I'm far away from my digital camera), but they look a little too grandmaish for my skirt :)

I need your help... My grandmother is being hospitalized with a blood clot and infection in her leg and my mom is wondering if we can find any crafts/activities to keep her occupied while in the hospital. Right now, all she really does is watch tv. She can't see well, and uses a magnifying glass to read. Her hands are very gnarled and almost useless from arthritis and she often mentions that she wishes she could still knit and crochet. I know this doesn't leave much, but I was hoping someone might have a few ideas.
