My boy and my friend came over tonight and talked to me while I sewed! I've needed that kind of motivation to sew lately... hehe

Sorry for this text-only entry, but I have a crafting dilemma..

I work for my boyfriend's mom who is an interior decorator, and we're doing this promotional thing by wrapping large Hershey bars in fabric with a coupon inside to make it look like a bed..but I have no idea how to wrap them, sew-free, while still looking professional. Plus, we have to make 300 of them in one day, so speediness is key as well. Does anybody have any ideas?

So I finally finished the stuffed octopus "Oliver" that I had been promising a friend of mine's son for a while. I made it to look like a cartoon her boyfriend had drawn for her son. (I still have to add eyebrows) What do you think?

Hey craftgrrls!

I've got a project I'm working on, and it won't work without help from others. I'm hoping to do an art piece that examines blogging as an art form- userpics, your art/craft photos, etc, how people interact with each other, and so on. I've got an entry in my personal journal set up for people to respond to... with pretty much whatever they want. Talk about how the internet has affected you, how your icons are an extension of yourself, how it's affected your art... anything. Talk to each other in comments. Entertain yourselves, make new friends... whatever.

Keep in mind, I'm hoping to make a piece from this entry that will hang on the wall and hopefully be displayed in a local gallery. By posting in this entry, you're giving me permission to use your comment(s) in that piece.

Thanks in advance, and happy crafting!

EDIT: You guys are fantastic!! Thanks so much for your help!

This is my first post here, so hello everyone! I hope you enjoy the photos.

I'm an avid letter witter but I'm also in the process of moving, so my stationary is packed up in boxes. To make up for this, I spent spring break making rainbow stationary and rainbow oragimi hearts as a minigift to go with it. I used printer paper, sketchpad paper, and markers for the star paper and stationary, just making a huge gradient with the markers (put a piece of scratch paper underneath so that you can color to the edge safely. 6 pictures of the process the the products. )

I also made stitch counters using sakura beads to celebrate spring and give me the chance to make more complex knitting work. I used "nail heads" to string the beads (half of the set have just sakura beads, half have the sakura beads with three matching or contrasting seed beads), made the loop at the top, and added the jump rings. Not very complex, but the end result is effective and pretty. It's also my first project with beads, findings, and anything resembling jewelery, so I'm pretty happy with how well it went. The inspiration came from my recently decorated birth control case, although I couldn't find the perfect yellow sakura blossom at the bead store.

3 pictures: stitch counters, closeup, and inspiration. )

I've been buying a lot of old classic books from the library. I recently started book altering. And I wanted to make a spiral notebook out of a old library book I bought but fill it with different types of papers(not the actually book paper:))...I'm not a great sewing person So I wanted know if there was a way to book bind using different types of paper(I will be using the book cover as the cover).

I saw that there's some sort of key ring(or something along those lines) that people use to hold journals together instead of spirals or sewing.

any ideas would be great.
I hope this makes sense...

So, I got a really good reaction from my friends-list about these (and a few people in school were shocked that I'd made them) so I figured that I'd share them here :) They're actually horribly put together, as I was in a hurry to leave last night, but it's not as noticeable when I'm wearing them. I'm always up for suggestions, though...they just seem to be missing something.

I checked the memories, but didn't find what i was looking for :/
i have a bright green sweatshirt, and i'm planning on dyeing it a darker green color. If i do dye it, will it come out dark green, or not because it wasn't originaly white?
thanks :)

For my friend whom LOVES Tea. I made her a Teabag bag (I don't have a better name) for her birthday!

I actually didn't really know where I was going with this project... I made it up as I went along.
Since I'm at college without a sewing machine, my hand sewing looks a bit crappy, but I think it's ok.

I did my first swap on Craftster.org. It was called "I <3 Coffee/Tea." My partner is a coffee lover. These are the things I made for her. )

P.S. If you are Knit_Core from Craftster.org DON'T LOOK!

Hi, i'm new to the community... and crafting also. But i've been making things with my hands ever since I could remember. I learned how to use the sewing machine recently, but i've been practicing like crazy! Does anybody have simple and quick instructions on how to make a really small bag/purse? Simple like a tote bag, but one small enough that I can hold it in my hand... small enough to hold my phone, a couple bucks, and chapstick, or something like that? Just to practice, and if it turns out nice, to keep, if not, just to learn/fix mistakes/create my own style, if that makes sense? Thanks!

(oh yeah! I'd love new friends! Don't be shy!)

Fimo clay

Mar. 23rd, 2006 09:51 pm
[identity profile] oxym0ronic.livejournal.com
I bought some Fimo polymer clay today to make beads & charms, etc. My question is, what do I store the opened clay in after I take it out of the packaging? Will it dry? How long does it take before the clay starts going bad and unusable?

I've also read about how you probably shouldn't bake your clay in the same toaster you put your food in...how serious is this? I'm not making them to sell or anything, I'm probably not going to be making that many. I don't really want to buy a toaster for that. So is it alright to do it a few times, or is it too toxic?

Do you guys usually paint your polymer clay after you bake it? I only have about 8 clay colors. If so, what kind of paint/paint markers do you use?

Finally, how long do you bake them for?

Thanks for helping a newbie. :)

Edit: Btw, I thought I'd put this here...when I was buying the colors today, I accidently bought classic for my white and black instead of soft like all my other colors. They are a pain in the butt, and I've only used about a dime size amount of each. Does anywhere here want to take them? I'll be happy to give them to you for free if you have use of them. How much is shipping anyway? I've never sent anything to anyone, so I don't know anything about that stuff. But please let me know if you would like them! :)
