This has definitely been a weekend of sewing firsts; my first attempt at making curtains last night and tonight, my first attempt at making a cosmetic bag. I have a lot of cherry fabric leftover from making my cousin's puppy a bow-wow bandanna, so I thought the print would make a cute cosmetic bag. I found some gold trim in my mother's sewing box, so I used that to accent the top of the bag. There are slight imperfections, but nothing that can't be fixed with some future bags now that I know what to do with all my leftover fabric.

FO: a shawl I crocheted )

Crocheted with Red Heart COMFORTS (something supposedly only available in Canada, it's like regular Red Heart, but a whole lot softer), and a plastic L hook.

But I haven't grown sick of my hobby yet! Though my silly sewing machine is acting up and hurting my feelings, totally.

I did buy a lot of this magenta twill apprently. I think I'm down to only some scraps now, phew.

But you know, pink is pretty, I think anyways.

S'more magenta, a tropical, and cherries! )

I also whipped up this big tote just for me to carry my knitting/crocheting around with me. Longer straps 'cause I gots the long arms, and plenty of room for lots of skeins and balls and hooks and needles and maybe even some candy? There's no closure or pockets, because who needs the fuss?

This lining is one of my favorites, available at Joann's, it's Tracy Porter. Flowers and birdies are fun!

I pretty much just joined. The other day [livejournal.com profile] borderbasher posted this tutorial for a fabric brooch. And I loved it so I thought I'd try it out.

Hello!
I have a zillion bags to make for a craft sale at the beginning of June. I'm making my usual tote bags and hobo bags but I'm looking into using stencils to cut out felt and sew it on the bags sort of like I've done with my heart bags. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a hold of some cute, but basic stencils? If I could print some off a site, or a store in Canada that carries them? I have little drawing/sketching talent so I need a guide to help me out.

As usual, when I decide to play with my beads, I can't stop. Briolettes are lovely. I love them! Do you?

I looked in the FAQ and only found some great info about sculptures with plaster of paris. I also remember a great idea about scent stones that I have used before and love. Anyway, my question is about handprint molds. I really want to make some homemade handprint stones but really don't want to pay $15 for each kit. How does Plaster of Paris work? Is there a way to make it with flour and oils like the scent stones? I had a kit once for garden stones that I loved, but no one has gardens that I am giving thes too.

I appreciate all help that anyone can give me. Thanks in Advance!

Help! I accidentally tore chunks out of my apartment wall.
I was trying to remove some IKEA mirrors by threading under them and lifting up the adhesive, but they ripped parts of the wall out. Ironically, the IKEA adhesive came up fine, but the stuff I got from Walmart to reinforce it is what tore out the paint and, um, plaster, I guess. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or remove the other 7 mirrors without pulling off the wall?

[X-posted to a few sewing communities, sorry if you see it many times]

He're a couple of shots of the vintage repro dress I made myself to wear out yesterday.
It was a bit of a pain to make since the thing you can't tell from the pictures I am really tiny, 5' tall and about an American size 2 - 4, British size 6 or less, so I had to take the whole thing in an awful lot to get the tight slinky look I wanted. I was really pleased with it in the end though so I thought I would share.

Here's the pictures... )
I hope you like it.
