Recently I was invited to do a home party type thing. You know, kinda like a tupperware party? It was to be me and 4 other vendors. I was the "bag lady" and the rest of 'em were direct sales vendors, jewelry, skincare, gourmet foods, and pampered chef. I really didn't know what to expect and all. Wasn't sure if this was the exact audience for my homemade goods. But I did really well and everyone loved my stuff and there was no table fee like a craft fair, so that was a bonus. It was kinda weird at first, being in a strangers house and interacting with all of her friends, for sure this was a circle where everyone knew each other. I was totally the odd man out. But that soon subsided and I had a nice time and I made some money and really I highly recommend this to anyone looking for another venue besides the craft fair circuit.

So needless to say, I spent the whole weekend up to the open house, sewing like a madwoman. Lots of caffiene and a darling husband to take care of the babe was how I survived.

Here are my latest:

There's a bunch more right this way... )

So picture heavy, you might want to puke. Okay, well, I hope not.

Someone in my own personal journal pointed me in this direction a few months ago and I've been oohhing, ahhing and cribbing ever since. Now I figured I'd post something to earn my keep.

It started innocently enough with my very first e-bay purchase of a bunch of assorted cigar boxes. I got all of these for less than 10 bucks including shipping! )

First I did a little decoupaging and painting and sprayed it all with a nice, shiny acrylic finish and ended up with this:

Then a failed experiment with some stones I got from the 99 cent store, some stenciling and, well. . .

Some of the box lids are held together by paper. I found this out the hard way after I struggled for days to get the paper off the box and then the lid came off. Oh well lemons, lemonade and these:

I saw this faux-leather technique used on a table and tried it on a box. Plain brown paper bags (or brown kraft paper) glued on in layers. Another layer of glue-- I used watered down Elmer's--, some wood stain (this is warm walnut, I believe) and some brass looking thumbtacks. Read more... )

For my twin's birthday I mosaic-ed two boxes with their initials and put their presents inside.

And then I had some tile and that horrible black grout left over and made this:

Phew! That's a lot of coding. Crossing my fingers that it came out all right.

Hello, hello.
this is my SECOND crochet project
created out of impulse.
(I am a crochet newbie.)

The 'rice' is stuffed with yarn snippets from past knitting projects.
I have yet to think of a purpose for this Tamago;
either use this as a pin cushion, or attach a magnet on it!
Any ideas?

Can anyone help me find a pattern for a shirt like This one. My friend wants one, but instead of closing behind the neck with straps, she wants it close with a wire choker... and kinda gather at the top. Does that make sense?

If you could point me in the direction of a pattern, that would be awesome!

Thanks,
Lor

hemp...

Okay, so yesterday I bought a couple of smallish bits of hemp (supposedly enough to make a few items of jewelry anyway) but I've never used hemp in my life, and I don't know how to get started. I'm assuming I'll have to start with a simple design first and work my way to something more complicated. Does anyone know of any websites that have incredibly clear and simple instructions on making hemp jewelry?

Thanks!!

this is what I bought )

I just made for my son a lamp made out of a real tank shell casing and bike sprockets.  The tank shell is about 2 feet high and it was a gift to my dad who died last year.  It was from a tank in Kuwait.  Anyways, I saw it and thought it would be pretty amusing making it into something vs. just displaying it.  Now my son has something really unique.

My mother is tired of me leaving my craft stuff lying around the house ^__^, and so I spruced up a cardboard box to carry it in:

BTW: There are pockets on both sides.

Its not that special, but I just thought it was neat ^_____________^!

In a recent entry, [profile] pinkveneer commented about [profile] strangestrings

It's a new community, but in my opinion, I think it has a lot of potential. I want to try to start making my own yarns, but until then, I hope some of you crafty folks will go join there and post your awesome yarns :) I have a new love of interesting yarns etc.

ps - I'm not related to the community, I just like it so I hope it grows!

Well, it took me awhile but here are some more of the clips I was making the other week. They are all made with super sculpey which I sculpted, baked, sanded and then painted. They are so much fun to make! I think I know what all my friends will be getting for christmas!

Help. Anyone?

Tutorial for turning a large shirt into capri's. I've seen it recently, could have been on craftster. Anyone know what I am talking about? I looked, and can't find it anywhere!

Thanks in advance!

I was just wondering if there are any sites like http://www.firemountaingems.com/ but that ships to the UK for cheap or any UK based sites.
I searched google and lots of sites came up but they are so expensive i ordered £15 worth of stuff which was only 5 things which is the equivalent to $35 or something and its so overpriced.
But this site http://www.firemountaingems.com/ seems so cheap but it ships to the UK for a very high price.

I have been using clear shrink plastic for some time now and have not had any problems getting things to shrink flat. Recently, I tried the white shrink plastic, but it curls up in the toaster oven, sticks to itself and then won't flatten back down...

Here's a picture of my problem. )

See how the clear shrinks fine but the white curls up on itself... do you think that's because my toaster oven is too hot or not hot enough? The directions in the package say to bake it between 250 and 400 degrees. That's a pretty big difference in my opinion! I have been baking it at 350 degrees, which is what the directions on the clear package says. Is there any danger to cranking it up to 400 degrees and seeing what happens?

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Hey everyone-- first time poster! :-D

Anyway, for all you seamtresses out there...

I have a bikini bottom that I want to *ahem* make a little smaller. (Basically, I want to trim the sides of the back to make it more of a Brazilian cut.)

I've never sewn lycra before, so does anyone have any tips on how to put elastic into swimwear? Or anything particular I should know before I start cutting into this thing? I've hear you can use that clear kind of elastic since it is chlorine resistant but other than that I am at a loss for how to proceed. ...And I don't want to ruin a perfectly good bathing suit just because I was being vain and wanted to show off more of my ass. :-P

THANK YOU!!

i'd like to have some feedback or comments on this, tried watercoloring for the lower card, yay or nay?

I haven't posted since last year but since summer is here I've gotten back into craftyness... and particularly sewing because I won't have a machine in my dorm next year so I want to get a bunch done before then!!

Purse and Skirt )

Next I am planning to make a tie for my dad for Father's Day and one for my boyfriend as part of his 4 year anniversary gift. I am also going to make some pajama shorts from some extra Winnie the Pooh fabric.
