a mini-skirt with pocket all hand sewn
A close up of my skirt would reveal the text Cheer the Leader -- Jesus Christ
The cheering cone and 'JC' are all puffy.

I made this skirt at a t-shirt making event. We had used t-shirts procured from a thrift store, stencils, iron ons, thread, ribbon and the fabulous book: Generation T: 108 ways to transform a shirt

My skirt was really easy, a slightly modified bottom of a shirt with a pocket made from the front of a another shirt. The waist is drawstrings on each side in what used to be the bottom seam of the black t-shirt. It was done quite quickly and I love the result!

What are these called? )

The coat used to be my grandmother's, but I have no idea how old it is--the only tag I can find just says that it's a union-made ladies garment. I adore those buckle-snap-closure-whatever-things and I'd love to find some to use in my sewing, but I can't if I can't figure out what they're called!

Alternately, if you guys can point me towards a community where they get a kick out of identifying fasteners on hand-me-down clothing, that would also be great.

Thank you!

I hope some of you here work with leather...
I have some leather that was packed away for some time and is now wrinkled.
What do you suggest I do to flatten it out again?
Can one iron leather?  o_O

Thanks!

A friend just had a baby, so I made washable nursing pads for her. I used colors more suitable to her than the white and beige that such things usually come in, because I figure with so much of her life being wrapped up around babyness of late, it would be nice to have something that was about her needs and likes. They're all cotton except for the lining which is wicking mesh.

Made out of felt, I didn't line this one, because I liked the raw (pun intended? ) ...rustic feel to it. It is made to hold tampons, lip balm, mascara and other similar shaped things!

more vegetables to come soon!

One day 2 years ago I walked into a quilt shop in Wytheville, VA. I must have been somewhat delusional as I had been hiking on the Appalachian Trail for many days. I saw a pattern for a purse and thought "I can make that". I had just received my first sewing machine a few months earlier and had lofty goals. The pattern sat around for 2 years (and through two more trips to the Appalachian Trail) until one day about a month ago I thought "I can make that" and (after much frustration) I did.
Behold! The first purse I ever made.

I saw these highlighter boxes at work and decided to recycle them into something useful, cute boxes for my photos waiting to be scrapbooked. Now my pictures don't get all smashed in those paper photo envelopes.

 Thanks for looking. :D

hey everyone! a question for those of you who have ordered (or gotten quotes from) lucious labels.com
I'm hoping to make an order for custom woven labels, probably one or 2 colours (most likely 1 colour!) and I'm wondering if anyone has any ballpark figures on how much they usually cost? I'm just trying to budget out when I can afford to order them, but I don't want to bother them with a quote request until I have an idea when I can actually purchase them
I'm kind of considering the printed labels, but I think the woven ones are much nicer and likely worth the cost.
all opinions and information would be appreciated!
thanks!
and so it isn't text only..

Here are the results )

First off, I am not a crafty person by nature. I am constantly amazed at the stuff put up here. So today, when I realized I had to put together a birthday present in under an hour, I felt inspired by all you crafty people and decided to try my own little crafty thing.

Not terribly impressive, but hey, I'm proud of it. I had to cut out the middle of the CD for the top, which was kind of annoying, but it was basically very simple.
