sewing machine problem
Sep. 9th, 2006 01:13 amThere doesn't seem to be a way to put a needle in my machine! I bought this old, absurdly heavy sears kenmore (model 5150) machine a while ago. No instructions came with it. It runs fine except for not having a needle. Where the needle should be, there is a screw that looks like it should be the thing that holds the needle in. But there is no hole or anything to stick the needle into. There's this weird thick wire that goes under the screw thing and goes off to the side in a little spiral. I thought maybe the needle gets jammed under the wire somehow, but that makes no sense. Does anyone have any idea how to put the needle in? If not, any suggestions for websites that might help?

i wanted to be a piccolo, but that will be so incredibly hard, and i dont know what to make the body out of. so help there will be appreciated too!
we were also thinking of being team zissou, but mayeb that is too hard too.

Sep. 9th, 2006 10:43 amHuge post full of boobies!!!
Pretty image-heavy, but with small file sizes, shows my Box Box, which is where I store condoms/dams/lube/female condoms to give to other students who find themselves in a situation where they need any of the above and don't have them. (Not pictured are the reems of educational suppliments to go with this.)
( For people who don't want to see nakedness or prophylactics )
Let me tell you, I was incredibly supprised by how beautiful vintage Playboys are. It almost felt like a crime to rip up some of those photos.
Anyway, let me know what you think.

A co-worker of mine had her birthday yesterday. She is a HUGE John Lennon fan, (has a tattoo of one of his drawings on her leg) so I wanted to do something using his image. I found this painting online http://www.beatles-popart.com/beatles-images/bigJohnbigD.jpg of a popart piece and thought I'd give it a try.

Sep. 9th, 2006 04:16 pm(Cross-posted to
sew_hip.)
I've posted a lot of questions lately and I have yet another one.
I'm working on my winter coat, and thanks to the advice of the lovely people here, I ended getting up gorgeous shearling and even more gorgeous wool for the coat. The shearling is relatively thick, and the wool isn't exactly the thinnest fabric either. I have a sneaking suspicion that my usual all purpose thread won't be strong enough. Is my suspicion correct, or will it be strong enough?
Thank you!

Sep. 9th, 2006 04:53 pmSo i just realized i have a lot of plastic shopping bags lying around my room, I don't want to through them away because a lot of the store names have really cool graphics...I'm thinking a collage but clear...so it becomes like a giant see through quilt...but what would i do with it? and any ideas on how to stick the bags together?? Also if you have any better ideas in general that i could feed off of....
My favorite bag is one that i used to doggybag my stir crazy aisian food :) I don't have a picture but the colors are red yellow and...clear? There are many circles in uniform rows and some have little cutout words like "Fresh" "Aisian" "Eat" or a cartoon buddha or noodle bowl.

Sep. 9th, 2006 05:28 pmI have decided to start making bath and body products for the Christmas season....
One of my ideas involves honey, but I am not sure how that would work with dry bath products - like oatmeal baths, or bran baths, etc.
Has anyone else used honey? How did it go? What do I need to know?
And is it possible to get a honey *scent* without using honey?
Thanks! :D

in search of very specific fabric prints
Sep. 9th, 2006 08:05 pmI need to make two pairs of pyjamas for a wedding gift. One must be printed with muffins. One must be printed with beans. Cotton or flannel cotton. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD THEY ARE TO FIND! I have searched so many online fabric and quilting stores, and it was plenty fun, but astonishingly fruitless.
They have fabric with frickin' artichokes on it, but not beans. And I don't want coffee beans. Nor jelly beans. Mixed beans, green beans, kidney beans, all fine. As for the other, no cupcakes. No danishes. Muffins.
I will be much obliged if you girls and guys can give me a hand.

earrings and bag
Sep. 9th, 2006 10:43 pmHi, everyone. :D Today I found wooden buttons and I thought they'd be fun to paint and make into some different kinds of earrings.

I have a white couch:

My roommate has a grayish cat. That sheds. On everything.
My parents were getting rid of a bunch of sheets but I managed to intercept. Add a few safety pins, about half an hour, and ( my couch is now cat-proof. )
I'm not a perfectionist to the point of wanting to redo the plaid part to make it line up perfectly.

Attention Beaders!
Sep. 9th, 2006 11:53 pmI have two Fire Mountain Gems catalogues that I don't really need because I'm on a jewelry-making break so I was wondering if any of you beaders might want it. There's a 2005-2006 catalogue, which is probably still pretty useful, and also the new 2006-2007 catalogue. They both have postage paid stamps on them from Fire Mountain Gems so you wouldn't have to pay postage, I can just put your address on it over mine and send it to you. Please specify which one you want. First come first serve, obviously.
