What would you guys call this delicious velvet?

I love it love it love it. I want a coat made out of it. Hell, I want a FAMILY made out of it. The problem is, it generally costs more than I would pay for fabric, so I want it in a color that I can wear with everything--grey or black or white. Jo Ann's has some, but it's $30/yard and brown. And that minky chenille stuff made by uh... Versailles? isn't quite right; it doesn't have the same sheen to it.

Anyway, Distinctive Fabrics is the only place I've found any online (and I've spent all evening clicking on each and every fabric site in the memories), and it's calling it "mink velvet." Have you guys heard it referred to as anything else? Better yet, have you seen it anywhere that you can link?

My parents have decided we're not going to celebrate Christmas this year cos it's too expensive, but Christmas is my favorite time of year and I want to still celebrate it, so do any of you guys out there have ideas for super-cute, yet relatively cheap Christmas-y things I can make? :D I can cross-stitch, sew (but not too well), and obviously cut-and-paste, paint, etc, and I have a job and get about a hundred bucks a week, so that's the budget.

Ideas I've had so far are Christmas clip-on earrings and maybe making some little felt Christmasy dolls, like Santa and Rudolph. Anything I'll make I'll post and all ideas are appreciated! Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Oops, I probably should have said I live in Australia. :D So I don't have access to a lot of American stores, but I've got stuff like Spotlight and discount stores like Crazy Clark's and Big W.

I bought a bag of little plastic heart charms on ebay and finding more just is not as easy as I thought. Specifically I want little red plastic or glass hearts like in the picture I'm putting under the cut tag.

Hearts )

I really thought finding these would be easy but I am having no luck. :( The person who was selling them only had one batch and that only had one red one anyway. Other bold colors might work too I guess but specifically I want red.

[Edit] I found some at http://www.firemountaingems.com ! Yay! Here's hoping they aren't too big otherwise I have no idea what I'm going to do with 50 of them. *L* Thanks to all who helped me out.

Thanks,

One Christmas Present done.
Big Picture So Behind The Cut )
I am giving my friend burned CDs for Christmas, so I made up this little sleeve to put them in so it doesn't look like 'just burned CDs.'
And then she can use it as a makeup holder because she is a makeup freak and it's always scattered around everywhere.
I dunno, I think she will like it though.

Is anyone else peeved at Fire Mountain Gems right now? You know how they do quantity discounts where if you buy 1-2 strands its one price, but if you buy 3-5 its lower, and so on? Well they changed it to 1-14 strands as the first base! Thats just absurd. And I've noticed the prices of some items have gone up as well.

Anyone have any other good alternatives? I know of artbeads and ringsnthings but I was wondering if anyone had found really good suppliers that are same/cheaper than Fire Mountain?

Hey all.

The dude (my dad) wants to buy my little brother a couple extra blankets for christmas. He'd like it if some of the proceeds happened to go to charity.

Anybody know any blankie makin'-charity donatin'-indies?

Much appreciated!

(and there will be a crafty post later, promise)

I've taken a week off of work, and I've been crafting! Mostly paint on ceramic, some etching cream on glass. Many of the pieces I used have been "saved from ordinary", rescued either from yard sales or thrift stores. These green bowls are my favourite of the ceramics:

Slippies!

I've been making these slippers for about a month now and I'm experimenting with different yarns and colors and such - so here's my latest pair.

I named them 'Classic' because they are black and white, but you can't tell from the picture that there's also some silver threads in the yarn that give it a bit of a sparkle, too. They were fun to make and I got the yarn on sale at Hobby Lobby for only $2.99.

I found a pair of boots at a yard sale that actually fit around my calves. Problem is, the heels are worn down past the cap, so past where a repair place will usually fix them. Is there something I could use to build an all new heel or fill in the missing area? It would need to be able to stand up to my walking and dancing on it without shattering or overcompressing. In the absolutely stunning version of reality, I would rebuild them with soles like these, but I'd be happy with just normal wearable boots.

hello, all! I've been crafting like mad lately.

I'm currently finishing sewing a bunny (http://weewonderfuls.typepad.com/wee_wonderfuls/store/wee-bunny.html) for my soon to be nephew. (so cute. you all need to sew it :O) as well as slowly slowly knitting a scarf and screen printing t-shirts

Really I'm posting to inform you all of Amy Sedaris's book "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence"
It has tons of recipes, humor and crafts :D
buy, borrow, check out, or steal if you must

and finally a question
I going to try to make these http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/bath_bombs at some point...my question is ...has anyone tried them? do they actually fizz up?
There's a similar recipe in the Martha Stewart holiday magazine...but she uses uh. citric acid :/ and I have no idea where to get that

Hey girls,

Is there some sort of product out there (like scotchguard) that I can soak cotton in to make it more durable? I bought a cotton pattern to make a laptop case out of, but I need it to stand up to dirty school floors without taking too much damage. Any advice helps :)

Anyone know a place online where I can buy christmas cards? I'm looking for something more personal than www.cardsdirect.com. Something sort of homemade looking or crafty looking. maybe with like handmade paper or felt/buttons...I want to make my own but I'm in the process of moving and we're about to move into our new house so I really have no time to make some. Any help? I'm looking for a decent sized set for under $15...
