Hello Crafters,

Recently I've become interested in making soft toys for the many nieces and nephews (and for myself :) I have. It's such a rewarding hobby, and I love that I can hand sew them if I want, or use my machine. I'm also going through my vintage fabrics faster than I thought possible.

Anywho--I've been using buttons as eyes, but wanted to use the plastic eyes that I see many wonderful stuffie makers using. Where do you (if you make stuffed toys) get your toy plastic eyes? I haven't been able to find any good sources.

Thanks so much in advanced :) And just for fun, here's a bunny I made using the pattern at weewonderfuls. The carrot is revised from the kwoozy pattern.

I haven't posted in awhile, but this English Project took me FOREVER to do today, and I felt like the whole world should see it. :)

It's a mad world... )

made from an old wool coat i threw in the washer to felt and lined with brown wool suiting. i made the pattern myself.
i'll have you know many a tear and expletive went into making this hat... i've been sewing for 19 years and i can't figure out how to get the brim to look like i wanted it to. but this will do. it is suitably akin to what i was shooting for. which was a less flamboyant version of this mongolian hat.

i was gonna add a tassle to the top and snap-in ear flaps with little tassles, but i'd probably never wear it that way.

This is my Gryffindor Owl pattern. I did not include the name tag, because well, that was a last minute deal and had no pattern.

There are two separate wings because the curves of the bottom of the body are not symmetrical. And I sewed them on before I attached the two body pieces together. So, don't sew the wings aligned to the outside of the body piece. Leave some room so that you can have a place to sew the body together.
And to make the pocket wings, just decide when you want to start the opening for the pocket, (I started about a fourth of the way across the wing) and then stop sewing it to the body and just hem the edge of the wing. The pockets are totally optional of course.
They eye outline can go two ways. Horizontal like on the pattern there, or vertical like on my owl. I find that both are cute.
When you cut the pieces out of your fabric it is best to cut on the outside of the black lines. That way you have enough fabric to make a few mistakes.
Here are the links to the actual pattern pictures. They are HUGE! But should print out the right size. If they don't I am sorry! -.-;;; my scanner has a mind of its own and likes to do things its own way.

Additional things
Any colors will do of course. You cuold choose to make a Hufflepuff owl or even colors that have nothing to do with Harry Potter.
I hope its not too confusing. It all seems simple enough to me, but of course I made it up.
If you need any help understanding, just let me know.
Enjoy your owls! They make great little pillows too!

I'm taking a sculpture class, and my final project needs to be made out of found objects/mixed media. Here's an excerpt from the assignment:

"Create a container or containers that hold some sort of information. The container can be found or constructed, but must be conceptually linked to the content of the information contained..."

I am highly allergic to poison ivy and I wanted to portray the zillion times I've gotten it. It swells up my face and my entire body...and is very embarassing and painful and itchy. Can anyone help me put together a brilliantly simple "information container" that tells this story?

I know this is a long shot.

For my communication arts class, we had to read a novel from a list our teacher put together and make a report and project on it. I read Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. Since Jane Austen seems to be relatively popular, I was wondering if anyone who has read the book could give me some inspiration on what to make for my project. It's pretty open as far as requirements - it's supposed to be a visual aid that represents the book. Any ideas? Thanks so much

A few weeks ago I went on a necklace making spree. Being the obsessive person I am I went overboard. Most of these necklaces were made using vintage pieces from 2nd hand stores. I thought I'd share!!!

This is an IMAGE HEAVY post.

I am searching for iron-on letters in the cyrillic alphabet.

I don't really want to print them onto transfer paper. I'd like something sturdy enough that I could stitch it onto the shirt.

I have looked everywhere! help!

I created this box for my boyfriend for our anniversary. It's meant to hold memorabilia such as movie tickets, playbills, etc. The inside is lined with brown felt.

Baby Book

Sorry, Text only. :(
I love all the felt books for babies that are in the memories, and I really want to make one for my boyfriend's nephew. His birthday is soon. He'll be one! Anyway.. in reading the posts, I've noticed the books have taken the crafters a lot of time. (Months) I have a week. Do you think that'd be enough? He has a 5 letter name and I'm not planning on doing TOO much detail. Another question: I wanted to include some things that had different textures, since babies love to feel and learn. Any ideas?

As any Trekkie knows, Captain Jean Luc Picard is the greatest leader of our future.

And sometimes, when faced with a diffcult situation, it's a good idea to ask yourself, "What Would Picard Do?"
