I drew this on paper and then I cut it out of some black fabric and sewed it down to a piece of felt. It took foreverrrrrr but I like it a lot. I think I might put it on a purse, eventually. It's going in my "eventually" pile. My "when I find a sewing machine that doesn't make me want to impale myself on a fencepost" pile.

Speaking of which...I just bought a Singer Protege. Is that the biggest mistake ever? I really need to know a good machine to buy. I'm new to sewing and so clueless. Is it better to get an old one at a refurbishing sort of store or what? The lady at Target told me to get a brand that starts with an H, but I forgot the name. Her recommending a totally different machine that they don't sell didn't exactly give me warm fuzzy feelings about the one I was walking out of the store with. Help?

I guess with the Wii just out this would be fairly appropriate. Show your nintendo colors!
Belts :D

Very easy, just cut the cord and push it inside using a pair of pliers and hotglue or e6000 to your favorite belt! If you don't want to cut the cord because you're a hard core nintendo enthusiast you could perhaps come up with a way to stitch or velcro the cord around on the inside of the belt so you can whip off your belt (careful, please don't lose your pants - we don't want any accidents now!) and continue to play your favorite nes classics!

Hi,
Im thinking of making a christmas stocking using felt. However I was also thinking of giving it a quilted look. Like sew patches of different coloured felt together into the stocking shape. Is that possible? Will my stocking go out of shape? I've never made anything using felt before in my entire life.
Oh what shapes do you suggest I should use for each piece? A mixture of shapes?

Does anyone have a pattern or tutorial for sewing a knitting needle case? I wanted to make one for my sister for Christmas but I can't seem to find a pattern.

Thanks :)

... come periods of arty starvation. I seem to follow this pattern to a T. And a U and a V. *sigh*

So here's to craftiness:~

But now I'm stuck...

I had a lot of fun making this funky-cool advent calendar. Its a dollar store cookie sheet, painted, with added decorative papers. The fun part is making the 25 magnets out of all sorts of cool stuff I had laying around. I saw instructions here:
http://teresamcfayden.typepad.com/minutia/

The idea is to store the magnets on the other side and as the days go by, add a magnet each day. I love the feel of it.

After much deliberation in my mind, I decided that I'm going to make my mom knitting needles and possibly stitch markers for Christmas (and spin her some yarn, but that's not the topic of this post...I already know how to do that).
I'm planning on just taking a dowel and making needles that way. Simple enough. What's the best way to smooth these and make them somewhat knitting quality? I figure that running them through a pencil sharpener will be needed? Yes? No? Dowels don't exactly strike me as the best kind of wood for knitting needles either (then again, I'm planning on kind of making this more of a work of art than anything else...). What are your suggestions?

And on that topic, stitch markers! What's the best way to go about making pretty, fancy stitch markers? Should I buy plain ol' stitch markers and fancy them up? Or is there something cheap that I can use in order to make a fancy set of stitch markers?

Thanks for any  help!

Hello crafting friends.

My 3rd anniversary (!) is coming up and Mike and I like to try using traditional ideas when planning/making/buying our gifts for each other.

This year it's leather.

I'd like to make a small notebook/journal and am unsure of the exact tools I may need.

Do I need a special needle?
What kind of thread?
I'd like to repurpose leather that I find at thrift stores, will I need special scissors/cutter?

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Please and thank you?

Cheers all!

I'm the girl who posted the cherry blossom pendants a while back (the ones preserved in resin) :)

Well, I found these instructional videos today and wanted to share! They're pretty good!

I know not very crafty, but... do any of you know how to bind the edges of a small burber rug yourself? I really don't want to have to lug the thing somewhere and pay to get it done >_<

I bought  to use in stenciling.  Did I get the right thing?  I bought it in the US as I could not find it here and I olan on stenciling a shirt for my boyfriend.  I would hate to ruin it because the thing just melted on the shirt instead of safely adhering to it.

And so this is not text only here is some
jewelry )

Thanks a lot.

So, I wanted to tell all of you crafty ladies about this great magazine that I happen to work on- I was hoping someone would stumble upon it and post, but maybe none of you know about it and I think it's right up your alley. It's called Adorn and it's all about embellishing and easy to make crafts. Check it out if you have a chance- we even have some free projects on the web. This is our second issue.

Delete this post if inappropriate, but I thought y'all would be interested (I've been a member of this community for years.)

and so it's not text only quilt blocks i've been working on )
