Sizzex book marks
I bought tons of these die cut book mark shapes, and then got burnt out on the intended purpose, plus intended purpose didn't work out to well, so I turned them into book markers. I got the stickers at the dollar store. And instead of like 2 bucks a yard for silk cord, I got gift wrap string* I guess that's what you call it.* Yes the pictures on some are blurry.that's not the point of the post though:)

And the candles I got for a dollar also, I want to use my gemagic punches on them, but I spared one to make a angel candle with:)

I wish I had more candles, and I wish I could justify more stickers, I couldn't justify what I got today I just wanted them. they turned out awsome.

'Allo my fellow crafty folke! It's been a while since I posted, but my husband recently managed to finally get a new job, and it's leaving me a bit more opportunity for semi-regular studio time. Woo-hoo! Eniways, I've got one finished-but-yet-not-finished piece for you today, and one sketch of something to come...

This is the oak leaf pendant I've made for Helene, my son's speech therapist, for her mother's birthday. It was popped into the kiln along with the last batch of leaves I made for roaming's sets. Yes, it's a very simple piece, but that's how she wanted it...and the ginko leaf pendant that I have to finish for her, too. Helene wants this (both pieces, actually) to have a vibrant "Autumn-wash" finish -- but my chemicals were defying me, the last time I tried getting it to look "right". To distract me from my frustration with it, I thought I'd get a photo of the piece with just subtle antiquing, to bring out the vein structure. This is one of those pieces that I wish my customer wanted without the fun-colored finishes, because as lovely as those are, they do distract from the detail of the leaves themselves......and this is one of those leaves that worked out with such marvelous detail. Yum. I love a good oak leaf sample, I do.

And yes, PMC3-silver is involved, but I'm not using the typical paint-PMC-paste-onto-a-leaf-in-layers technique tought in all the classes and books. Explaining what I do do, though, is a bit harder.

Onwards to the design sketch.... )

(Crossposted to my personal LJ, soon to be crossposted to my gallery on LJ, and probably eventually crossposted elsewhere.)

Hi Ladies :)

I would like to make a bag for myself with the sewing machine I got for christmas, but having never made anything on a sewing machine before I haven't a clue where to start! Do any of you know any good tutorials on how to make a bag, or any other cool things?

Thanks for any help you can give xox

Hey Craftgrrls

I am currently writing an article about the intersection of traditional crafts such as quilting and knitting with modern technology and culture (like the Mario quilt). I was wondering if you smart ladies (and occasionally gentlemen) could give me some feedback. How does the concept of "tradition" influence you when you are making things? Continuing to use the example of the Mario quilt, much of the Super Mario imagery has become iconic - but is it traditional? When does something get to be considered traditional, part of our modern legends, folk art? How have computers, video games and other pop culture technogadgetry influenced your crafting?

And so its not without pictures... )

Go!

I am SO happy I sent back my Badge-a-Minit and got this one instead. It is SO much easier and every single button is perfect. Yes, it was quite a bit more, but:
It's FAST
You don't waste time or materials on buttons that don't turn out
The parts are cheaper
It's easy to use
And, you don't hurt your hands using it.

From opening the box to my first button was maybe 5 minutes. When I was trying to use the badge-a-minit, I had to keep looking at the directions because of all the different parts and flipping this and that. This is SO MUCH easier. I kept squealing when I first made some. I finally had to make myself stop and take a break because it is addictive and I was wearing myself out. I was looking around my house for different things to punch to make into buttons. I went ahead and got the graphic punch. I really debated on whether to get it since it is expensive. But I'm so glad I did. It's so fast & easy to use.

I bought it on eBay from buttonsafari--a very nice person to deal with and extremely fast shipping. I bought it Thursday afternoon and got it today!

Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice on this and who told me about the dealer buttonsafari.

Hello, I have this blanket that's a wonderful green "fake fur" kind of fabric: looks like grass, but has the backing like 'fake fur' fabrics do. Anyhow; it has no back & it has awful static.

I would like to finish the back in something soft (it's a blanket) that would cut down on the crazy static so the kids can use it! (It crackles when they climb under it or try to use it ~ it was purchased as a premade blanket, so it should be alright -but it does need a backing to be comfy.)

Any ideas on what I should do to finish the back of this & cut back on static?

Ah, found it on the web, It's this one from IKEA "KRYP GRÄS":
