I have recently joined a gym and begun spinning (cycling) classes.  I enjoy the class very much but I am bruised from the bike seat... and padded cycling shorts/pants are very expensive.  It seems I should be able to use surplus flannel and sew padding into a pair of well-fitting (not too tight or too loose) sweatpants.  This way I can make sure all strategic areas are covered.

I checked the memories... has anyone ever done this before?  Any advice?  Thanks!

I hope this isn't too off topic, I wasn't sure where else to ask, but, do any of you fine crafters know where the best place to order henna (like the kind you do skin art with) from is? Preferably the cheapest safest henna out there.

Knit Legwarmers    Knit Legwarmers
Knit Legwarmers

Inspired by a pair of knit legwarmers I spotted on a mannequin in a department store (but could not find actually being sold, and without a brand tag), I knit this pair of legwarmers using Paton's Classic Wool Merino in black and pink (the blue is what I had remaining from a ball of Lion Brand Wool). 100% wool and knit using US size 5 DPNs in k2p2 rib.

As some of you may know, I'm a Birthday Party Fairy. So the kids at the fairy parties keep stepping on and breaking the cheapy plastic dollar store crowns. So I bought some junk jewelry and a metal hairband and came up with a solution. Everything is well tacked together with metal, superglue, and crafters goop. I think I could use this as a boomerang and it would still function as a crown.

NEWSPAPERS

I work for a newspaper company and I have been trying to think of something useful I could do with old loose papers/bundles of papers that I have laying around. I literally have access to dumpsters full of unused newspapers. I just have nothing to do with them.. and I am absolutely positive there is something interesting I am not thinking of.
I thought of making furniture with some of the bundles, but not only would that be uncomfortable to sit on but it would get dirty very easily and take up too much space.
I also tried using the paper for writing journal entries on, but, as was expected, the words I wrote are hard to read due to the fact that there are already hundreds of words printed on the paper.
I don't know what to do.. and that's why I turn to all of you.

im not sure if everyone is familiar with this tutorial on making personalized labels, but in the directions it says to print out your labels onto iron-on paper. does anyone know if this tutorial is only limited to ink-jet printers? because i'm interested in getting a laser printer for my regular printing, but it'd be great if i could make labels with a laser printer also.

btw, excuse me if this is a total dumb, ZOMGDUH post. i really don't know the difference between inkjet and laser, haha.

thanks in advance! <3

For her birthday, my sister wanted a peace sign necklace, with the symbol and everything made out of beads. So I deliberated about how to do it for kinda a long time, and then set to it yesterday. It came out really pretty, even though making the actual peace pendant was a pain in my ass because it was so small. I broke it, too - the wire at the top needed adjusting, but it was weak from too much adjusting already, and so when I went to move it again, *snap!* it went, and I basically had to start all over again. Arg. But its done, and I think she'll like it. She's worth it, in the long run. ^_^

Wanna see it? )

And then, while I was on the phone with my best friend [livejournal.com profile] ozianescape last night, I made a pair of earrings! They're based on a pair I made last year for a friend of his, (which you can see here!) that he bought for her as a Valentines day gift, only those were in all earth tones, and this new pair is more shades of blue. They're made with beads and tarnished silver settings from an old Rosary I got at a yardsale, shell buttons, some other older yardsale-find square glass beads (I call them bottle glass, because of the coloration), and some Czech pressed glass dagger beads in a pretty pearlescant blue, all mixed with wire spirals and some other beads. They came out really pretty.

They've got sort of an antique feeling to them... )

So now I'm going to go make some more stuff! Just thought I'd share these. :D

ok... i'm really really sorry for the text only. i know how annoying question posts can be... but it seems like i've searched everywhere and i can't find a good site on how to do braided sailor bracelets. i think they're also called like turkish knots or something. i got one when i was in martha's vineyard a couple summers ago, and it's pretty raggedy. so if anyone knows a good site... let me know! please and thank you!
