This is a note to the craftgrrls who were included in the traveling altered book/art journal started by [livejournal.com profile] sin_da_rella - Please disregard if that's not you, and sorry if this post annoys/breaks any rules!! But I was wondering what's going on with it... )

I have this cross stitch kit  that gets personalized. The way I am supposed to do it is put the letters on tracing paper, pin the blue carbon stuff to the canvas and place the tracing paper over that and trace over the x's in order to get them on the fabric.

I was looking for any tips for getting the best results. I don't want to mess this up as it will be a wedding present.. How light will the transfer be as I am putting these on for another person to sew. What's the best way , etc? I've never used the stuff before.

Crossposted all over

Does anybody have tips on machine sewing vinyl? I made one wallet, but I was just wondering if anybody had any tips to make it easier. My sister's friend sewed a chair out of it, and apparently the material melted around the needle because he went too fast and it heated up. Has anybody experienced this?
Pictures of wallet to come, I just got my drivers license so I wanted something clear so I wouldn't have to take it out all the time.

I think it'd work, I don't see why not. I think the only reason they say to use green floral tape is so it'll look like stems.

This is what I've been working on lately:

... a big purse all made of measuring tape and with two inner pockets! I'm happy with how it turned out :-)

I've been doing a lot of painting on canvas panels lately (like these http://www.dickblick.com/zz070/08/), and have a decent amount of works that I'd like to hang, but some of the canvases are too heavy for my usual method (small binder clips on top, then hung on wall).

Does anyone have any super-cheap ideas for hanging these? I'm completely avoiding frames - they're expensive, add weight, and throw off the proportions of my paintings. The only other thing I can come up with is a sort of display ledge made of moulding with a groove for the bottom edge of the canvas, but I wanted to see if anyone else had other ideas.

Thanks for any and all help!!
