Recent(ish) projects
May. 20th, 2007 09:46 amFirst is a car blanket I did over the (omg so fricken cold) winter to keep my legs warm on the drive to work. My heater works, but this past winter was so fricken cold it didn't seem to work fast enough. The blanket's roughly 30x32ish and is just a simple shell stitch. It was also the first time I'd done multiple colors.

Then I made a new blanket for my dog. The one she'd been using had been a wedding gift to my parents 40some years ago, and had a few big holes in it. I did a ripple pattern all in single crochet. OMFG, never, ever again. It's about 37x48ish, and smaller than her previous one, but she's adjusted to it by now. When I asked my mom what colors I should use she said, "Labrador beige and red."
( Single crochet is the tool of the devil )
Finally, I made a case for my cell phone following this pattern, adjusting it for the size of my cell. I'd never joined work together, or made a loop, or added a button, so this was all new to me. I think it came out pretty well.

A request and a reconstruction
May. 20th, 2007 03:43 pmI'm not sure whether many of you would have any information on this, but I'm looking for some craft ideas that originate from or are somehow linked to Palestine or Israel. I'm starting a fundraising campaign soon and rather than rattle a collection bucket, I'd like to have something small I could make and sell, because people are very receptive to that. I'd really appreciate it if somebody had ideas or could point me in the right direction.
[Now, before anyone starts a political rant, I just want to make it clear that the campaign is being launched in response to the abuse of human rights on both sides. We don't differentiate between the nationality or religion of the victims of I/OPT conflict. But as a trainee teacher, I've become increaingly alarmed that children's rights to education and medical services are being denied. The UN predict that with the completion of the wall and the freeze on PA aid, over 62% of primary health clinics and all major hospitals will stop functioning, along with 75% of all primary and secondary schools. All I want to do is help those children get to school and have a future, that's why the NGO I work with is partnering up with groups in Israel and OPT who are working specifically to finding ways for all children effected to access an education. Thanks again :D]
In other news, I recently attempted bookpurse-making for the first time, and here's the result:~

Scrapbook in a box
May. 20th, 2007 05:27 pmMy first attempt. I'm pretty contented with it although I could have done so much more if I had, had a little more time:
