I've made a few things recently...

follow me for jewelry goodness )

Both made with vintage buttons! I think I have some sort of button addiction. ;)

i need to attach thin pieces of magnet to laminated paper. is spray adhesive my best bet? i had considered hot glue as a back up plan, but it's always lumpy and never evenly distributed like i want it to be.

thoughts? suggestions? brand recommendations?

I want to make some little gift bags for everyone at work and I want to throw something in there that's handmade. I don't want it to be anything too extravagant, just something small. I can knit, crochet, and sew. I've got lots of little craft odds and ends (paint, embroidery thread, buttons, beads, scrap book paper, fabric, felt, yarn, etc.) hanging around but I'm perfectly willing to go buy more. There are about 40 of them all together. I don't really want a project that is going to take me more than a week to make all of them. It needs to be something for guys and girls, mostly in their early twenties/late teens. Any ideas? I am totally at a loss.

PS- Marble magnets are already going to be included in the package I'm making ;D

PPS- I work at Starbucks, by the way.

I made this for my boyfriend's 25th birthday party. His friends had pulled together and gotten him an XBOX 360, so I decided to get him one too, in a manner of speaking.

The icing didn't come out as smoothly as I had wanted. I didn't give myself enough time to let it sit long enough in order to rub it down, and the spatula-in-hot-water method just didn't work for me. But everyone still thought it was awesome, so I'm happy with it. Plus, it tastes good.

I've been working on reconstructing one of my old a-line skirts into a high-waisted pencil skirt, which requires me to have to fiddle with a zipper for the first time. I used the zipper tutorial on whatthecraft.com to install the zipper, and when I put the skirt on, the zipper was puckered.
Like so: )

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it? I will be eternally grateful! :[

I just got into needle-felting a few months ago, and this is one of my first projects.
I made it for my boyfriend, and I was sorely tempted to keep it for myself.
I broke 4 needles in the process of making him, and stabbed myself numerous times, but it was fun!

If I use contact paper around a candle holder would there be any fire risks?

Well, I have always wanted to get into doing altered art and have been an admirer of Nick Bantock's work.  I spent way too much money this weekend at Michael's and have created my first piece of art.  :D

It is on a 5 x 7 canvas board.  The background utilizes a glazing technique with acrylics.  The fish are decoupaged on.  The bottom is Oregon sand.

Now I just need to figure out what to use as a finish to ensure that the sand does not come off.  Any ideas?  Oh yeah...and any thoughts on framing methods?

lazy susan

I found a lazy susan while I was out and about the other day.
My mom has always wanted one, but this one has seen better days.

I'd like to fix it up and give it to her as a no special occasion gift.
I was thinking of painting some fruit or vegetables or something like that on it, but not really sure if I need a special process. I would like for it to have a slightly distressed look and all my paints are really vibrant colors.

I'm pretty sure it's wood... if it's not real wood, it's processed wood.

I assume I'd need to sand it down so any painting I do would adhere to it, but I want it to be sure to be food safe or whatever.

Any ideas for what I could do to it?
and how I could go about doing it?

It's about the size of an average dinner plate, by the way.

Thanks for any help.

I searched the archives high and low, but to no avail...

How do you crafty people store ephemera? I am talking magazine bits, stuff you use for ATC´s and the like?

I am still storing them in a three-ring-binder in those plastic binder thingies, but that turns our all wonky and doesn´t  look good at all, let alone keep my stuff tidy or organized.

Anyone have a better idea? Anything that doesn´t take up too much space? I am moving soon and will not have a craft room, but a craft area in my bedroom, so any help is mucho appreciated!!!

This choker took me FOREVER to make... Every single one of those rings (and the black ones are doubled one on top of another) had to be hand-closed...! But it was SO worth it, I adore this piece.

The briolettes are labradorite, the black rings are anodized aluminum, the silver ones are, well, silver. ^_^

I just gotta have that sparkly! )

Hey there, does anyone had any advice or experience with using j-cloths or similar materials as part of a t-shirt (using fabric glue) and what the washing/ironing results would be like? will it just disintegrate?

Also, just so it's not all text,  my first attempt at stencilling on a t-shirt

Here )

thanks! x
