Hi all!

Well I've been lurking for a while and thought it was about time that I actually introduced myself!

I'm Ariaya, craft-a-holic.  I'm mostly an ATC-er and Crocheter, but I love doing all forms of altered art!  Variety is the spice of life after all!

You can find me on Craftsters.com and ATCards.com as well as quite a few yahoo groups and other sites

And just so it's not totally a text post, here's a few items that I've made.

You can find more on my blog at http://whatyourheartthinks.blogspot.com

So I dunno if you grrrls will find this crafty or not but I think so.

The story is I like camping, but I'm broke but crafty.
REI sells headlamps (for those not into the out doors think miner type flashlights but without the hard hat) they sell them from the cheapest on sale model at $15.93 to $87. while in the REI I noticed a cheap sorta elastic thing for putting small flashlights in that they were selling for something like $11 (I can't find it on the website to check the price)

Also stoves are expensive. Most fuels have lots of waste. The best fuel is denatured alcohol. it burns clean. The alcohol burning stoves on the REI website are $29.95 and $32.95.

So what's a poor girl to do?

I need some ideas on how to create shrinky dink charms for a bracelet for a gift. I know how to do the actual shrinky dinks, I just don't know how to make them into charms. Help? Pretty please?

Hey guys. My dad wants to make a back board for an antique table we have. He went scouring the place for copper pipe with no success.

He wants something like this, except without the top bit. So essentially the bottom half of this

I was wondering if you guys new of an affordable way of making this, or if you could suggest supplies?

I wanted to make it for dad for christmas

Recently, I went to the local Renaissance Festival. Had lots of fun and saw a new craft: weaving using just one strand. I was immediately intrigued, especially when I got to try it out myself. It was so easy, I knew I had a new crafting obsession. When I got home that night I utilized my Google-Fu and found a great web-page that has tons of great information for beginners.  Since I don't have a workshop to build a loom, I started investigating places to buy one. Found that Hillcreek Fiber Studio is in Columbia, MO and they developed the Spriggs Adjustable Frame Looms ... So, I drove the next Saturday and picked up a couple of looms (ok, one of each of the big looms and a 2 ft travel loom for teaching...) Unfortunately, after I got the triangle loom set up, I spent the rest of the day untangling yarn and spinning it onto my new Royal wool winder... Can I just say, this is my new FAVORITE TOY!!!!!

Anyway, I started weaving a 7' triangle shawl Sunday Morning and finished Wednesday morning. I was using Bernat Chunky, a yarn that stated it was bulky weight blue variegated acrylic yarn... Yeah, not so chunky... I used only a single yarn and there is a lot of open space (1/8th - 3/16th of an inch)... Though it did look better after going through the washer and dryer.

Now, technically, I didn't have to put a fringe on it as this is a self-binding weaving method, but it just didn't look finished without it. I have to say, not bad for a first project!

Anyway, here's a picture of the finished project:

And, as is traditional for all first projects, I'm going to give it to Mom. (^_^)

I'm headed to New York City next week, and was wondering if any of you have some favorite crafty stores to suggest for me. Fabrics, trims, beads, Japanese craft books, or any cool spots!
I've checked the memories and didn't see any posts like this. Maybe we could make a crafty directory for traveling craftgrrls?
