I finished off some more wooden boxes tonight. I originally painted these but sort of got distracted because i didn't really know what images to use. So, this weekend, i decided that i'd use paper. The blue box is meant to be cloudy and the red one has flowers as well as flower petals inside.

This isn't exactly dial-up friendly.

Also, a few weeks ago, i made myself a stuffed kitty from felt.

Posted for your viewing pleasure! Two of the most recent birthday cards I made!

This first one is a Tila Tequila card I made for my friend's 20th birthday. (That's Amanda, in case you couldn't tell)

I have made a deal with myself this year to make all my girlfriends their gifts for birthdays and christmas, this week I gave this to a good friend :)

Pendant for Alice )

It was inspired by the necklace I wore on my wedding day by Linda McDonald (http://www.johnlewis.com/230397431/Product.aspx) and very simple to make :)

Hello craftgrrls. I have a question and I figured you guys would be able to help. I have a boring, plain corkboard at home that I would like to make into a French memo board. My boyfriend's mother in England sends us postcards every time she goes on a trip (which is very often) and I would like to display them. I can't get to the craft store due to my schedule (I'm going on a trip this weekend) but I would like to make it ASAP before I lose the inspiration!

So, my question is: if I don't have quilt batting what else could I use to pad a french memo board? I was thinking of using an old towel or possibly stopping by the thrift store (it's on my way home from work)and getting an old blanket to use as the padding. Do you think this would work? Has anyone used something other than quilt batting as the padding between the board and the fabric?

To make this not text only here is a project I did recently:

Three days ago I started to crochet. I really needed a hobby, and thought of crocheting, with in the back of my mind those cute Hello Kitty crocheted animals I saw in a book on the internet ones.
Hoping to find that book, I logged in on Amazon.co.uk, and searched for 'cute crochet', because 'Hello Kitty'- and 'Sanrio'- crochet gave me jack.
And I found Amigurumi books! Love at first sight!
I ordered two, I will receive them by the end of the week.
Impatient as I am, I searched online for 'amigurumi' patterns. And found a blog by Ana Paula. I soon realised I just ordered her book from Amazon, and she had patterns on her blog!
The next day, I bought some yarn, needles, safety eyes, and I started out making a bear, I did that the day before yesterday. My first crochet. <3
And today I finished a cactus, which will be used as a pincushion.
I'm so proud considering these are my first self-made 'animals'.One of the bear's legs is a row shorter then the other, but it gives him character .

Pictures! )

I was going through my stash of inactive icons the other day, and I thought, I still like these. Wouldn't it be nice to still use them...but how?

So I'm wearing 'em.

I was skimming the archives and reading about Sculpey/Fimo/Premo and I came up with a few questions..

What is 'liquid clay'? I was reading some instructions for a project that talked about sealing a jump ring in with liquid clay. Is it thinning out the polymer clay with water [is that possible]?

Some sites have talked about painting the clay previous to baking. I like to paint with acrylics and then seal it. I would think painting with acrylics and then throwing in the oven would be a Very Bad Idea. Yes/no?

Baking. Some people say they put their clay on index cards and the like to bake in the oven. Is this also a bad idea?

Thanks!

Our family recently had to clear out my grandparents' house, and it was a vintage treasure trove! However, all my aunts and uncles were far more inclined, due to the daunting nature of the task, to want to just throw everything away. I salvaged what I could each time I went to help out.

I called dibs on the button collection long ago... 11 jars of buttons from 4 generations, all kinds of awesomeness. I have several ideas of what to do with those.

However, the problem comes with the rest. I simply don't have the long term storage room for all of this, and I don't want to just box it up not to see the light of day for another few decades. I'd like to figure out some nice crafts to make with what I can, or find a way to get it out to others that would appreciate it and use it as well. Several things I plan to mat and frame and maybe sell on my poor empty Etsy site. But I need ideas for the rest! There are a few items I have sentimental attachment to, but need ideas for displaying them.

vintage stuff

This is just the tip of the iceberg... it would take WEEKS to photograph everything that I actually have. I have BINS of children's books, school primers, YA novels, encyclopedia type nature, science, and geography books from 1910s-1970s. Cards, postcards, those old-fashioned viewmaster cards (old-fashioned as in from the late 1800s/early 1900s). Some of the books are in a range of conditions- some in mint condition, others are moldy or falling apart (I've separated the moldy ones out, but a few had covers in good condition that I didn't want to part with), or written in. Hundreds of records from the 1920s-40s (I used to listen to them with my grandpa in the 80s, so some are in great condition).

I appreciate any suggestions you can share!! I will try to add more photos when I can.
