I made a simple/cutesy mother's day gift for my mom. She moved up here to Seattle last year after living the past 20+ years in Hawaii. She's still having trouble adjusting to the change in temp! So I made her a little shadow box beach scene for when she needs to get away to a warm place :)

I used a premade shadow box I bought from Ikea a while ago, some precut foam stickers, sand from the flower dept, and acrylic paint. I also made the chair out of toothpicks and fabric. It turned out all wonky but not bad for my first attempt. I totally forgot to make an umbrella and add shells. But by the time I remembered it was past midnight and I'd already sealed up the back so the sand couldn't escape. Oh well!

Pics without flash show the real color. I painted palm trees on the inside, water and a big sun :)
Lots o' pics ahead!Read more... )

POLYMER CLAY NOTE

...but sadly I am not very good with using it. lol.

So I've only played with polymer clay twice, this being my 2nd attempt, but I wanted to share what I've created.

No real background info, just some stuff I wanted to do as a beginner and maybe expand my horizons haha. It's all very basic at the moment, I'd love comments and feedback, good or bad. :]

I'll start with the things I created first! But I may have posted some of these before, so if I have, I do apologise!

Hello, craftsters !!! I have a bit of a conundrum. SOOOO!!! I am looking to start a plant journal, using pressed plant parts as the main attraction (haha I don't know how else to say what I mean!!). First of all, what would be the best way of attaching them to the page? I had the idea of using those nice lamination sheets that are sticky on one side... BUT I don't want the glare. Do they make matte lamination sheets? My googling yielded nothing substantial. I am definitely open to other ideas, too. My only requirement is that it will be able to keep the pressed plants protected after a number of paging throughs and over numerous years.

My second question, which is less important as I'm using just the book method, is what's the most efficient way to press plants? Is there some magical method that helps them to maintain their actual live look? Right now I've just been putting them in the middle of a heavy book, and then putting more heavy books ontop of that... which I guess is working ok.. Except they are turning out darker than I've seen pressed plants to be??? I am so completely new to pressing plants, so ENLIGHTEN ME!

Hi !
I am doing my first fashion show on Saturday, it's not just specifically for my clothes and it's a preview for a Pink Sale in June (breast cancer fundraiser). So I only have 6 outfits in the show (plus the 3 that my friends and I are wearing during the day). I want to put together a package to give to people who are interested in my line (wether it be media, a store owner, etc.). I made some pretty envelopes, So far all I can think of to put in it is..
-A sheet of info about me/my line
-Photos of other things I have done
-A few business cards
Pictured is my business cards, a postcard size "flyer" thing with some info on the back.

but what I reallllly need is a few more ideas for some stuff to put in it !
Any suggestions?

If I want to make several clean, uniform cut-outs of a complicated shape (i.e. a tree or a star) out of cardstock, what is the best way to go about doing this and make them all as uniform as possible?

edit to be less vague: I need to make about five cutouts of a tree I have drawn, and possibly some stars, but that doesn't matter as much. What I am really concerned about is having five tree cutouts that look exactly the same and have clean, neat edges. I hope to have them about five inches by seven inches.

Hello all! I'm a recent crafter with a love of all things owl. Just wanted to share some of the stuff I made in a crafting frenzy after I finished up with school. Had to find something to do with the time. :)
