Hi everybody,

I'm a long time beader who's finally fulfilling her dream of learning metalworking in order to really get in there and work with my gemstones. I generally work in stone beads and sterling silver, tho some of my early metal working projects are with copper, because it's cheaper and I'm less afraid to mess up.

I've been hard at work, despite my hesitation to get the torch out. And finally, I've overcome my fear of burning down the house.

My first attempt at chasing. i'm working on this piece for my partner in crime, [livejournal.com profile] mina_kat9. Yes, if you do the hard work that I hate to do, I make you stuff.

It's supposed to be the images of a wolf and a crow worked together. Kinda looks like she's eating that crow. Not a very good thing. But the fact that I can look at it and see the images, That I pounded them into the copper with a hammer and chasing tools, impresses me enough. I have no formal training with the chasing, so I didn't anneal the metal before I started. I was just too excited that I got my tools and had metal to play with. So I'm quite sure this isn't exactly what it's supposed to look like.

Today, I annealed the piece, along with several blanks, to see how well I do with softer metal. The copper is cut apart plumbers pipe, and all the working it takes to cut it and flatten it from the tube shape, has made it pretty hard. Once I've played some more, I think I'm going to go back to the wolf and try to define her better, either by working from the other side, or just adding a few more certain strokes.

I'm still working on the wire ring, and today, Solder Time!

It still looks pretty rough, but I'm happy that the joins are solid. I used a hard flowing solder, so that I can do it in 3 steps-connect the wire ends, form and join the ring, and add the bezel for the stone.
(Because, of course, I can't do anything simply, even when I'm starting out)

I've taken photos of all the steps, setup, everything, and I'll be posting all that to the intentional stones blog to have mercy on those here with slow connections.

I have a quick question. Sorry to be a pain.

You know when you make those magazine beads? Whats would you use to seal them? I notice they undo very easily and I would like to make them stirdy and shinny.

Also what do you use to roll them?

The other day i met a new friend!
He is small and friendly and always cheerful:
A little bird named "Herbert"!
My new little friend sits on my finger all day long:
He sings me songs and tells me of life as a bird!
Today he brought me a worm to eat,
Luckily he wasn't too offended when I declined.
Later he introduced me to some of his friends,
and now they come and visit Herbert and I every day...

I was just wondering.... do we have a section anywhere in the memories for suggested reading?  I've recently become obsessed with Amazon and want to find crafting books. I tried to see if there was anything on suggested crafting books in the memories and couldn't find anything.

Hey everyone! One of my coworkers just graduated from high school and I was going to decopodge a box for her a 'college survival kit' of sorts. I just wanted some ideas of what to include in it...i'm thinking a shot glass and a small bottle of vodka hahaha maybe some ramen noodles and redbull. Anyone have any other kinda funny ideas to add? Thanks!!

Always a good combination. Grandparents can be so hard to buy for, so instead I decided to make them something for them.

In order to raise some funds for the coffer in one of the clubs I belong to, we're going to have an auction at the 4th of July BBQ this year! They asked for donations of new and gently used things, and I was feeling kinda cruddy that I didn't have anything to donate... so I asked "Do you want something handmade?" The response was positive, so I got busy!
