So I get into these states where I don't make anything, followed up by states where I make a billion things at once. Okay, maybe not a billion, but four or five.

No mama, I sleeping on this.

You go work on something else. )

X-posted to my own journal.

So for Halloween I'm dressing up as the Cheshire Cat and my boyfriend is being the Mad Hatter.
I have figured out how I'm doing everything except for the cat tail. My boyfriend's mother offered to knit
one for me but I want it to be fluffy like the one in the Disney film. How would I do this to a knitted tail? I'm afraid that if I stuff it it'll be too heavy.

Thank you!

This summer at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, a friend of mine put on a puppet play. He did the same last year, but this year went all out on the marionettes. He doesn't really have internet access, so I'm posting the pictures. I did the sewing for the play (costumes, curtains etc), and was very happy with the results. I made my first pair of pants for a puppet.

The story revolved around Abdolos - shunned from society for having read the forbidden tomes and for daring to question the wisdom of its leaders. Sent into space with his eyes and tongue removed (puppet gore is so much fun), he is found by the curious god Azahir, who takes a liking to him and grants him a new life....sort of. He pilots alone (with Azahir tagging along to mess with him) into the deepest parts of space where he finds dark and terrible secrets about the origin of humanity... and Cthulu.

On with the show! )

My boyfriend recently got a job as a math teacher in Richmond, VA. This is quiteee far from my home in Buffalo, NY. We're trying to do the long distance thing, visiting each other once a month, so I made him something that I brought when I visited him last weekend.

What do you make a math teacher? )

So, last winter, just before holiday sewing crunch time, my machine (Bernina bernette 80e) seemed to have jammed up one me, stopped working, at less then 2 years old. If I hand cranked it, it went thought the cycle, if I tried using the peddle, it would move the needle down, but that was it. I *thought* I tried everything. I redid the bobbin, many times, tried getting into the top, but that's very well screwed together and didn't want to void the warrenty. So, I decided not to freak any longer and just put it aside. I thought I tried again after, I certainly wanted it fixed, but didn't have the money really to do it.

Well, I gave it one more shot today, and figured it out quickly this time. The spindle for the thead to wind a bobbin was switched over, move it back and voila....

*headdesk!*

I'm truly relieved its something so simple, but feel a bit stupid for not figuring out. I guess I now know not to take a panicked holiday crisis for granted, but darn it I lost 10 months I could have been sewing. Ah well.

So, check EVERYTHING when you have a problem with your machines. I think what was throwing me was that there was an arrow point it it that direction and I was forgetting that was not the default position.

Oh, and i might be back with questions for the wonderful surprise from my mother-in-law a Baby Lock Pro line Bl4-428D serger. I've not worked on a serger before, all it comes with for instuctions is a video cassette Serger Essentials, and I just checked, it is for the machine itself, but still. Ya never know.
