I'm looking for specific beads that I used to get years ago in a bead shop in the Haight in SF. It closed down oh, about 5-6 years ago and I've been looking for these beads everywhere since. I thought...well, it's a long shot, but I'd ask if anyone knew of a place I could get them or something similar! I've looked online for years, but obviously, I don't know every bead shop in the world :P

They were around a centimeter in length and made out of bone. They were red, a very saturated red, not shiny, but sort of...blood looking, very organic looking. They were in the shape of a crescent moon and if I recall correctly, the bead hole went from top of the crescent to the bottom of the crescent.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Hey there, craftgrrls! I have a HUGE favour to ask!

I have a dance to go to on Saturday, and I'm wearing a strapless dress. I want to make the Cold Shoulders shrug from the Stitch n' Bitch Happy Hooker book. Problem is; I'm at university right now, and my book is at home. I want to pick up the yarn before I head home.

Would someone who has the book be willing to look at the pattern and tell me how much yarn I need to pick up?

Thank you all so much! I promise to post pictures when I finish it! :D

My kids are in kindergarten and second grade, and they have a valentine exchange at school today. We wanted to do something more than a card, so we made felt heart hair accessories and pins.

When I say "we," I mean that my kids acted as artistic directors on the project and wrote out their cards, and I was the production force for the felt hearts.

They're at school giving them out now. I sure hope they went over well! These were a little time consuming, but since I could assembly line them, it went quick enough. They don't have too large of class sizes either, so even with extras I think I made around 55.

Thanks for looking!

For reference, I'm using this pattern: http://www.angelfire.com/va3/heartfeltangels/littlestarafghan.html

It's crocheting in the round using shells. What I don't understand is on the second row there is more than one chain in each space to choose from and I don't know which to work in when doing my shells.

And although I haven't gotten that far, I'm confused as to which chain to work in following the pattern. The first chain in the middle of each shell or the second?

I bought an old sewing machine table from a thrift store today for $10. Its not one of the ornate antique ones like I used to have so I'm definitely going to paint it.

See table here )

But I need help deciding on a color for the table and the drawer pulls.

My sewing machine is a sea green color. (It's in the last picture in the photobucket album here: http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff191/imaginethewolf/thrift%20store%20sewing%20machine%20table/?albumview=grid) There are also a few more pics of the table here. Not sure whether to paint the top too, where the finish is a different color, but I probably will paint the whole thing.

Please help! All ideas appreciated. So far I'm considering a dark brown with black, white or silver handles, but I'm not sure at all and need some other ideas. My style is usually muted natural, earthy tones and my other furniture is dark wood tones and black wrought iron. I'm also debating on a little bit of wood-burning design somewhere on it too.

Thanks in advance!

Hello all =) I am a longtime lurker here, and I've decided to post some pictures of a few projects I recently completed...nothing fancy, mainly just stuff for fun.

I also have a few questions, and I hope its nothing that will get my post deleted.

I've seen a lot of jewelry and handmade shops take pictures of their goods on scrap book paper like background...just wondering if you all think those pictures are better then ones that are taken on just a plain background (like the ones in this post)?

Also, I've made a few sculpey charms and they've come out great and everything, but I have such a horrible time trying to take pictures of them. I honestly have no idea why, either. They always seem to come out so blurry! Is this a common problem, or am I just being ditzy?

Thanks!

The goodies! )

This is what happened when I was sitting around watching 30 Rock, drinking a beer.

Me as a bot. Paper, tape and markers. That's it.

I am trying to buy these in a store but I'm not having any luck.  Does anyone have any suggestions other than buying them on line?  I have a JoAnns, Hancocks, Michaels and Hobbly Lobby near me.  Its driving me crazy!
