Recently I've been making a lot of modified clothing (t-shirt and such. No pictures yet though). I've been doing all my work on my mother's old Viking sewing machine from 1982 but it is rather cantankerous and just about to give up the ghost soon. So I was thinking about getting a serger. But I don't have a lot of money to spend (college kid) and all the one's I've been looking at are so expensive.

Does anyone here use a serger? What should I look for in a machine? How would I go about using one? Is it just like using a normal (1980's) sewing machine?

I have a question, and I really hope that I can describe this well enough for people to help me out.

I've always had this little plushie kitty-shaped pillow, and it doesn't have any features on it, it's just a cat shape and floral fabric.  Nothing special.  Does this type of plushie have a special name?  Like, the style of it, I mean.  I know that there are dolls without facial features, but these are cats that are, more or less, two-dementional and are only in the shape of the animal.

Maybe they're just a plushie?  I dunno, but I was certain the style had a name.

Thanks!

Just a few things I've been working on. These images are cross posted to the crochet_love community, so I apologize for those with double posts on their friends page! (I'm just way too excited to keep these to myself!)

After seeing this post: http://community.livejournal.com/corsetmakers/1515739.html?style=mine#cutid1
I was wondering if anyone has seen any tutorials to make a ruched skirt exactly like the one shown
in the above link?
From what I can tell it is rows of gathered fabric but is the gather line sewn straight or  zigzig and is it sewn
horizontally or vertically?
I'm wondering how to finish off the rows of gathers as well. It appears that part of the skirt that are ruched
up are tacked in to place.

Thanks!

Hello fellow crafters!

I am in search of some girly John Deere tractor embroidery, cross stitch, stencils, and the like!

Honestly I have only done cross stitch but I have 6 months to get at least 4 designs put on these onesies for my best friends daughter! She just loves John Deere! I think that something about 2 inches square would fit OK on a 0-3mo onesie with out being too bulky or look over done. I can print and transfer when/if needed. I would like to keep it relatively simple due to my lack of skills and the fact that babies grow really fast! :)

I know there are things out there that I can buy for her, but I would really like it to come from my heart! :)

I looked in the tags and memories and couldn't find a thing I was looking for, my google-fu is slipping and my head is aching!

Thank you all in advance for any help you may be able to give!

Christie
