Hey ladies/gents.
I have a couple of questions about making an apron [which is going to be my weekend craft this weekend. +squee+ I've waited 2 weeks for it!] Anyways, I have some pretty good quality cotton fabric [quilting cotton as I've been told it is called] I was wondering if I should use interfacing [fusible] on the underside of the apron to make it more sturdy or if the cotton is good enough? I have medium weight fusible interfacing if I need to use it. =o) I can. I have enough for the apron - Ihave light weight too but I only have half as much as I need. =o\

Also, I want it to be waterproof [since I plan on wearing it when I wash dishes because that is a huge watery mess when I do dishes. =o\] and I have scotchgaurd heavy duty water repellent [for outdoor fabrics]. Can I use this? If so, should I put it on before or after I preshrink the fabric??? [I was waiting to wash the fabric to know if I should put it on before hand. =o\]

Thank you for any/all help everyone gave me and for all the extensive & very welcomed advice I was givin via [livejournal.com profile] dietcokefiend. It was greatly appreciated and I DID invest in some new sewingmachine needles & some higher quality thread [thank goodness hancock was having a huge 50% off sale - so I basically bought 1 & got another free!] <3

The dance club says "come post apocalyptically" So I'm going to. I started sewing after dinner last night, and went to bed at midnight thirty.

  • Dresslet and Over top= made from some hideousgrey button tunic (ew!) and boring wool sweater pieces.
  • Jeans= This pair sucked after the 1% spandex gave up, and so I wore them for 5 days, and then tailored the inside and hips to be a skinny/bootcut style. (uber-thanks to the girl who pointed at the tutorial from this community!)
  • "necklace" is the edged button band from the sweater rehacking project.

I am really really happy with the transformation, and I'm glad I've gotten good enough at this to really just go into a magical zen mode, and push out the craft. Especially after a very long craft haitus.

One of my closest friends is having her first baby within the next month. We had her shower last weekend, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make something cute and utterly ridiculous for it. The result is this silly set:

My mod podge adventures have turned into discovering that I got a bit of mod podge on my glasses. I discovered this when I went to Windex them because they were smudged.

Any clue how to get mod podge off of eyeglass lenses? This is annoying.

    (cross posted from my journal)

A while back an American dancer, Ezma, sent me a package full of  beaded dresses for me to slaughter. Sure, she was bribing me for dibs on my reconstruction abilities because she has an amazing vintage costume that doesn't fit her right and will need some major work... but it was a lovely, random, bribe. I've often complained that Japan doesn't have much in the way of used thrift stores...so tacky-dress to costume conversion projects are only possible when I've hit America.
