Here is what I need to be able to do: I need to take a postcard (or something similar...thick piece of paper with a picture printed on it either that I'm buying from a store already made or that I'm printing myself from my printer at home (whichever will work), matte or glossy paper) and glue it flat to the glossy side of a tile (like just a square one you'd buy at Lowe's) and then put some kind of a sealer over the top of the picture so that the colors will not run if it gets wet. Is this possible?
I recently got a little crafty item at a fair, and it looks like the person took a postcard or maybe printed off a picture on photo paper and glued it to the tile. I'm not sure what they glued it to the tile with because it's very flat to the tile, no bubbling whatsoever, it's on there very well. The problem I've had when doing it myself is that even using a thick paper, it bubbled and I just used a bit of hot glue on the sides.
The item that I got at the craft fair does have one major problem that I would want to remedy if I can duplicate the design. The picture on the paper is starting to come off. I'm not sure what kind of paper it's on, but it's like a rubbery paint is coming off of the paper and that's the picture. Also, when I picked it up and my finger was a little damp with water, it totally smeared the picture! I would definitely want to find a way to seal the picture so that it is waterproof and does not happen. With my first attempt at making this, I tried using a decoupage glue and painting it over the top of the picture, but that ended up smearing the picture I used, so that will obviously not work. Plus it added to the bubbling of the picture which was obviously more wet then.
Also, if gluing the bottom of a piece of tile (which isn't completely flat) to some cardboard (like matchboxes), what would be the best glue to use so that it doesn't come apart? I want to be sure if I'm picking this up by the top piece of tile that the weight of the second piece of tile which is also glued to the cardboard boxes won't be too heavy for the glue to hold. I used hot glue, and I used a decent amount of it, but I don't think it's as indestructible as I want it to be right now...did I just not use enough hot glue or is there something better I could use?
Any ideas or solutions???

Need help locating fabric
Oct. 19th, 2009 04:24 pmI want to be a lady bug for halloween this year and decided to make a red/black polka dotted dress that I can just wear wings with. However, I'm having a horrible time finding red fabric with black dots and since I want to be able to wear this again I don't want to sew on a million black dots onto a red dress. I've looked at my local fabric stores as well as searching high and low online. Do any of you have any fabric sources online that might have this type of fabric that I could use to make a dress? The only place I've found is an auction on Ebay but the seller is away and it won't be shipped until 10/25 or after.
A craft that I don't know what it is!

Upon further investigation, the contraption seems to have been a 'Couronne Stick', which is used in needle lace. Looks very interesting, if a little complicated!

Lino cutting
Oct. 19th, 2009 07:04 pmI've been playing about with lino-cutting for my ongoing beetle series today. Don't think I did too badly for a total amateur! I certainly learned a lot in the process... I'm wondering if it would work on fabric now, as the other half took one look at the prints and demanded a T-shirt. I have plenty of fabric paints, but I'm not entirely sure how the ink transfer step would work on a stretchy fabric. Anyone tried this at all?

Happy Haunted Halloween Project
Oct. 19th, 2009 10:00 pmI am going to be driving to my daughter’s in Kingston and will be there for a month. This means I will be there for Halloween and might be taking my granddaughter out for Halloween. She will be three years old in December, so she is really excited about Halloween this year. My daughter is expecting their second child any day, so I hope I make it there before the happy arrival.
Well, my girlfriend found this pattern on the Michael’s website and we decided this would be our project for this year. She thought it would be a good thing to take down to my granddaughter, and I agreed. So we started on the project. All the characters as well as the house are made from clay pots. The only character that isn’t is the Pumpkin Head Trick or Treater. These little people are in two sizes. The big ones stand 5 ¼ inches high, not including the witch’s hat or the Bride of Frankenstein’s hair doo. The little trick or treaters are 2 ¼ inches high, again, not including the little Princess’s tiara or the witch’s hat. We had so much fun making the haunted house. The whole project took us over 5 full days working on it. We had a ball, making the little costumes, and putting everything together. This blog is photo heavy, so dial up users beware.

Oct. 19th, 2009 10:28 pmJust made this necklace! I'm really excited about it. I think it's the nicest thing I've made yet this year.
