I made the mistake of ordering these boots online without trying them on.

The problem? The calves are WAY too loose on me (about 3 inches of extra room).

Can anyone think of a fairly simple way to take them in? I don't think my sewing machine is strong enough for two layers of faux leather plus lining. I wonder if I could cut along the back seam, take it in and secure with some kind of glue?

I'd really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

I work at a school (cook) and was out in the cafeteria today and saw the art teacher working with a couple of kids making ornaments.  I thought they were so cute and made me want to make some.  They were using clear ball ornaments and paint.  They put some paint into the balls, put the cap back on and swirled it around.  Simple, no?  Problem is, I didn't think to ask the lady where she found the ornaments.  Figured they'd be easy enough to find around town.  Boy, was I wrong.  I went to the Dollar Tree, Walmart and Kmart and had no luck finding clear glass balls.  I mean, what gives?

So, does anyone know of a good place to buy some of these that is cheap and I'd be able to order online?  I'm going to be heading to Big Lots tomorrow after work (maybe) to see if they have any but I'm not getting my hopes up.  Any help is appreciated.  If I'm helped, it'll be one more project I'll be able to do and post up for others to see. :]

Thanks for helping me out guys.  I had completely forgotten about some of the other craft shops and was finally able to find some ornaments at Hobby Lobby.  Not the price I was hoping for but not too bad either.  Again, thanks guys.

I'm hoping someone here can help me. OK, you know how when you're making something and you have something specific in mind and you have to mutilate other things to make them work? This is about that. I made a thing for a swap, and it involved buying and cutting the handle off of this wok skimmer:

Which left me with the little mesh bowl thing, which fit my needs absolutely perfectly, but here's the thing: I'd like to make more, but it was such a pain in the butt trying to saw off the little steel bars on the handle, that I just...really don't want to again. Also, it was slow going. So does anyone know of an alternative? Do they make skimmer baskets like this without the handle? Could I make one? Can I get a steel handle off an easier way? Does anyone know where I can get a saw that cuts through steel reliably and on the cheap (This is pretty much the only use I would have for power tools)? Do they make wok skimmers in, like, aluminum?

Project requirements:
1) It needs to be something I can sew fabric onto.
2) It needs to be round/domed, no corners.
3) It needs to be about 5" in diameter.
4) It needs to be able to hold its shape.
