Hi Guys!! Father's Day is coming up and I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I think I have $3 (maybe) to spend. So, I was wondering if you guys could help me think of something cute and handmade I could make for my husband? I not super crafty, so it definitely can't be to advanced... I just can't really think of anything...

AHHHH HELP!!

I'm making a bag out of natural canvas and hot pink/yellow batik cotton. Do I really HAVE to pre wash the fabric? If so, can I wash them together, or should I do it separately? What is the likelihood that cotton batik and canvas will shrink?

I just made some moccasins, and I need outside opinions. Should I leave the tassles shell-free, or add the shells?

The moccasins currently look like this: Read more... )

And if I add the shells, I'll have to cut the tassles a bit shorter so I'm not stepping on anything -- the moccasins will look something like this: Read more... )

What do you think?

They're not 100% identical, of course; it IS my first time making moccasins (possibly not the last??) AND my first time working with leather... but I'm really very happy with the result, anyway.

I should add that the shells I'll be using will not be cowrie shells, since I don't have any and I don't feel like waiting around to obtain some. They'll be smaller, rounder spiral shells. I'm not sure what they're called or how else to describe them. They look like this, only cream colored instead of gray: http://www.shellbeads.net/images/beads/big/BFJ033SPS.JPG

Hi guys,

I have lately started walking in the morning and would like to make some type of case to hold my iPhone and car key that I can keep with me without actively holding it in my hand...any ideals.

I can knit and sew. Knitting would be my first choice though.

Thank you guys for any help in advance. :)

We used to have an Arabian Horse and I miss him greatly and decided it was time to do some new horse pendants. The first one is my version of Van Gogh's Starry Night.

I love Van Gogh and horses and so I decided to make my own painted version of Starry Night. This piece was hand made by me out of a wonderful lightweight sturdy clay called Paperclay and is hand painted in acrylic paints with the stars and swirls done in a super glow in the dark paint that is almost invisible in day light but glows in the dark after being exposed to black light or after being exposed to light in a darkened room. The second picture shows the wonderful glow in the dark paints on this piece!

The finished piece is sealed in a matte varnish to allow the detail to really shine.

The pendant measures approximately 3.5 inches long including the bail and drop by 2 3/4 inches across.

This community has been great, so I turn to it for some advice/ideas.

I am going to a retirement party for my mom next week (she was an awesome elementary teacher), and I plan to show I care with a Barnes and Noble gift card (more time to read and stuff!) and something handmade. I can't think of the perfect thing to make though. Here are my thoughts:

Only if you care to read )

Any thoughts or ideas from the community would be great for inspiration. Thanks so much.
