Jan. 1st, 2004 07:31 pmA couple of days ago, someone posted pictures of dayplanners they made for their family. I shamelessly stole and ripped off their idea, and here are my results.
Im happy with it because it was cheap (the only thing I spent money on was the dayplanner fillings, everything else I just found in the house), and it was an idea I've developed myself.
First tutorial I've ever written. Couldn't find all the proper English words,
but I hope it's pretty straight-forward anyway.
What I started out with:- Sciccors
- Fabric glue
- Yarn
- Big needle
- Fabric
- Filofax/dayplanner fillings
- Random coloured paper
- Cardboard (just use whatever you find in the house- the kind that's on the back of notebooks work really well. I used something I got for free at a store once)
Okay, step one. When you buy packs of filodax fillings, you usually get a cardboard thing as well to protect the paper inside. The cardboard has holes in them. Put the cardboard square on the big piece of cardboard you so efficiently stole from your little brother's lego box. Just trace around it to get the right sice for your cardboard.
Then you trace the holes in the cardboard piece (the one that says “Årspakke” for me) on to the other cardboard. Just poke through the holes with the big needle. It’ll help you later on, when you’ll stitch the thing together.

Lyk ziz, yeeeeez.
Put the cardboard on the fabric. You should have a couple of inches of extra material on the short sides, and on the long sides you should have enough extra fabric to cover twice as much cardboard.
By the way, it’s important that the holes face eachother like they do here. Now, put glue on the cardboard.
At first I just put on big blobs like this, then I used some paper (you’re probably better off with a paintbrush) and spread it out more evenly.
Then, you just fold the fabric together around the cardboard, putting in some extra glue here and there.
At this point I panicked a bit, because there were white spots everywhere from the glue. It fades, heh. Though I’m sure you all already knew that!
Looks something like that. Yummy, yummy white spots, right? But now you’re done with the covers, it’s time to move on to the filling.
It’s best if you just take the yarn, thread it through the first hole a couple of rounds and then tie a couple of knots- just to make the dayplanner a bit sturdier.
Then, you just sew. I took the thread about five times through each of the holes to make it sturdy. I did the six holes three at a time, going from holes 1-3, and then from 6-4.
And then you're done! Ta-da!
