More fun with RIT
Aug. 8th, 2007 11:36 amTiered front slit skirt, made out of dyed bits of silk and misc bits of other fabrics.

The slit goes to slightly above the knee.
Tiers are as follows going from the bottom up:
Sea green taffeta silk dyed black making it a mottled bluish purple. Raw ripped hem.
Yellow paisley jaquard silk dyed black. Bias cut (was an old night gown) serged bead hem edge.
Black netting
Black chiffon. Raw ripped hem
Unstretchy black fishnet size netting.
And more black chiffon with a raw hem.
Base fabric for the skirt is a plain black lining material.
I did a little experimenting with this one with a hidden elastic waist. The top layer having been sewn to the inside then flipped over the waist band and then tacked down every 2" or so to the waist band.
We'll see how it works out when it's worn for a long period of time. Thus far preliminary wears have been successful with the elastic not turning, but it does make it slightly confusing when you're putting it on.
