I spent a good night making a few of these giant paper flowers to hang over my bed.

I am always looking for cheap ways of doing things I see in stores that want a lot of $$$ for the item, and I made this small jute twine sphere yesterday for pennies. The large one is made from a grape vine and while I love it, I paid too much for it.

While cleaning out the workshop yesterday I discovered this old toolbox my Dad would have made over thirty and maybe even over forty years ago. It sat neglected behind the furnace full of rusty nails. I hauled it out and cleaned it up thinking I could definitely find a better home for it. I have! I've placed cutlery in mason jars and tied up napkins with jute. This will make a handy caddy for dining outside in warm weather, and I just love how it looks sitting on my sideboard.

I found an old advertisement for grain at The Graphics Fairy and applied it using CitraSolv which I didn't realize could be used to transfer images to wood. It totally can!

this little (??, he's actually kinda taller than i expected!) guy took four days to make. it's my frist amigurami, and i realise you can see the stuffing through the stitches. this was pretty much a "rough copy" so i could get a feel for what i was doing. as it turns out, my younger daughter M totally loves it. it's back here, because i just left the table coding from my blogspot journal. it was easier. )

this was x-posted at [livejournal.com profile] crochetcrochet and my own journal. you can see more of my stuff at Caren's Crochet Crafts too.

I just finished my first crochet project tonight

Picture! )

It was a relatively easy pattern, I learnt a lot by starting with this pattern and will be starting a second when I can decide on what color to make him, as I've run out of gray yarn and cannot afford any more at the moment. I'm a huge fan of the movie and made this one for a fellow fan as a gift :) I hope you all enjoy!

The pattern can be found here (LJ link)

Flower Pillow 003

I've made a very image heavy tutorial for the layered petal pillow I posted here yesterday, for those who were interested in knowing how I sewed it. You can find the instructions here.

If something isn't clear, or if you have questions, you can message me or leave a comment.

Laptop Sleeve 002

I sewed this laptop sleeve today. My laptop is an unusual size so I needed a custom sleeve. I used this tutorial

If you use this tutorial, be aware that the dimension formula for the flap panel is wrong, it should read Width + 1 inch by Height + 4.5 inches (It indicates length by height.)

Now that our Secret Santa has passed, I can reveal the gifts that I made for our exchange and a tutorial on how to make your own. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, you can use this tutorial to create your own unique greetings.

meet Prudence the praying mantis! )

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
(lyrics from Dear Prudence by The Beatles)

Prudence is an outdoorsy girl from the tip of her antennae to the tips of her toes. She loves to be outside feeling the breeze and hearing the leaves rustle. Her favorite season is late summer and her favorite activity is fishing! She can often be found down by the creek dabbling her toes in the water waiting for a fish to bite.

Here are the pics of the mini Cthulhu I made for a friend. So very cute! The pattern is from here. (I did alter the pattern a little - I wanted the tentacles to be a little longer, so I added to the center and the two next to center.)

I made this tonight as a gift for my best friend's upcoming baby. I haven't drawn anything in many years and have never been good at it, but this was a satisfying experiment. I have been thinking for a few months about how to incorporate this Bob Dylan verse into some kind of baby gift for her and her husband. (It's a few lines from the great Forever Young. My friend and her husband are both bananas for folk music, and this song is the sweetest wish ever for a new person in the world, so it seemed like a good fit.) I was thinking about doing some kind of paper cut, but couldn't figure out exactly what I wanted to do or how. Then I happened across this on Pinterest and felt inspired by the wavy lines of text and the graphics interspersed with the text, so I appropriated those ideas and went to town. (If anyone knows who did that work, by the way, I'd love to credit them properly! UPDATE: The original work is by libre_versalita of Flickr!) I don't know how these kinds of posters are actually created... probably using Photoshop? But like a chump, I did mine by hand with a Sharpie pen and watercolour paper:

A few close-ups under here... )

I also handcut the mat for the frame! I feel very craft-capable tonight.

Like a dummy, I made this for someone who lives in California. Jeez. How am I going to mail it without it smashing into a million pieces?

I made a Kindle cover using a hardcover book today.

I am really jazzed about how this thing turned out because it exceeded my expectations by at least 83%.

I made a set of these earlier to go towards a charity auction to benefit those affected by the recent disasters in Japan. They were so fun and easy to make that I think I'll be making a few more! :)

Made with perler beads, painted pots, model magic (to "fill" the pots), and covered with craft foam that's been textured to look like dirt.
