i just joined the forum, and wanted to say hello.
i am a crafting addict (my gluestick is one of 5 things i'd have to take with me if i were stranded on a desert island...). it is rare to find me with my fingers not covered in ink or glue residue or stinking of darkroom chemicals. lately i've gotten really into mail art. anyhow, i'm excited to be part of the community and if you are a collage-addict or mail art freak, let me know. i'd love to correspond and trade goodies.

hi everyone! my computer keyboard recently died, and i'm thinking it'd be fun to pry out the keys and make something from them. anyone done this? i'm wondering how to mount and/or connect the keys together, to make bracelets and such. any ideas?

My boyfriend has decided he wants a gothic bedroom. I want to go beyond painting it black, red, or purple--does anyone have any ideas? We actually have to money to go all out, we just don't know what to do yet. And we are both decent painters, so no suggestion would be too difficult to execute.

Please help, craftygrrrls!

hi, i just wanted to let you all know about the inexpensive yet awesome papers i got today. they are chinese joss papers, a huge variety of colorful rice papers, some printed with metalics and inks, some with lovely wood-block prints, some faux money and labled "hell bank" or "heaven bank." i purchased packs of assorted papers at my local asian grocery and each pack (which is quite large and full of variety) was only $1.50. papers like these would be so expensive if sold elsewhere and i totally recommend you check out your local asian groceries (if you are lucky enough to have one in the area) to see what they have. i am so happy!!! i love serendipty.

Repost from the Trading Spaces fan community:

My hubby dug Hildi's version of the mattress sofa's on Trading Spaces today and I have actually half way talked into making them for our den (since we all just flop about on the sofas anyway, and never sit on them like normal people)....anyone know where I can find plans for them? The more specific plans the better. That way I can have the cuts done at home depot and there will be less for my husband to mess up :)

at last I post my finished pictures....it took me awhile because I ran out of the staples I needed for my heavy duty staple gun to attach the fabric. As soon as I find some trim cording I like Im going to "finish" the edges around the fabric with it, but it looks great as is and has already withstood quite a bit of beatings from the kids and hubby.

Hi, all. I've been a member of this community for quite some time, but I've only lurked. So, now I've decided to "come out of my shell," so to speak.

I've really enjoyed the ideas that have floated about in this community. You guys are really inspiring and make me want to do all sorts of fun things.

Right now, my main "craft" would have to be soap making. I've just gotten started and am experimenting with color and scents and all sorts of additives, from glitter to powdered milk to the contents of a tea bag. It's a lot of fun, and I find it relaxing.

I also make paper, and I'm currently trying to figure out how to pull some sheets that won't fall apart when I try printing cyanotypes on them. A cyanotype is a silver-less photographic printing process, for those who may not know. I'm a photographer, by the way. I shoot for both fun and profit. :)

Anyway, I thought I'd say "Hello" and finally join the community. That's all for now. ^.~

Knit-Wit

If you're thinking of getting one of these - don't.

I'm not sure I can adequately explain all of the things that are wrong with this thing. But, being the type of person I am, I'll try.

A) The thing is poorly constructed. It's made of rather cheap plastic and metal prongs that don't seem very sturdy either.

B) The idea behind it, is that it is supposed to be less time-consuming than normal knitting/crocheting -- I'm not sure how. Even factoring in a "learning curve", it still seems like it's going to take as long as crocheting or knitting the same item.

C) You basically make rosettes/stars (depending on the tool). Doing one or two passes looks really bad (like a flimsy granny square), but putting a third or fourth rosette on the tool makes it really impossible to use the yarn needle to do the finishing that you have to do as part of the "knit-wit" scheme.

D) The metal prongs really destroy the yarn. This happened with both the worsted yarn and a really good cotton yard.

If I remember, I'll try to take pictures of it tomorrow at work and post them.

Thankfully, I have a 30-day money back guarantee and will be sending mine back to the place I bought them tomorrow.
